10 comments on “Excellent Defense of Al Franken

  1. Yeah, I agree with her, with the exception of one simple thing.
    .
It isn’t inexplicable that the Dems are failing to defend themselves. It’s very, very explainable, and it isn’t only due to typical Democrat naivete/cowardice/lack-of-killer-instinct.
    .
It also isn’t just because the GOP are nasty, insidious, and amoral. I mean, they are those things in spades, but it isn’t just because they are šhìŧŧÿ people that this strategy is working.
    .
It’s working because a significant portion of the Left really is lumping any minor infraction together with rape.
    .
It’s working because a significant portion of the Left really is obsessed with patrolling and dictating terms to folks that identify as Liberals (because Conservatives don’t really inhabit the same circles as them and are largely immune to their boycotts, call-outs, and beloved tactics like that).
    .
It’s working because a significant portion of the Left equates any reservations, any call for moderation, any doubts about the accusations as being a part of rape culture.
    .
The folks on the Left doing the “job” for the GOP aren’t just being naive, and aren’t conservatives in disguise. They really are believers. They really think Franken must go.

    1. Name one.
      .
Caveat: One with national name recognition, or at least a position as significant as Attorney General. That is my same level for the Pro-Moore “Mainstream”.
      .
Because I have honestly yet to see anyone making his removal a requirement. Shaming, yes. Getting on a high horse, absolutely. But no one Left of John McCain calling for his head.

  2. Just looks to me like a big fat slice of victim-blaming (“you shouldn’t have participated in that show” strikes me as just a few steps over from “you shouldn’t have worn that dress”) served with a side order of “suck it up, other people have it worse.”

  3. This article speaks as if Tweeden was the only woman accusing Franken. There are others, are they also false claims?

Also, if Franken does step down, wouldn’t the governor of Minnesota (a Democrat) appoint a Democrat to fill the slot? If so, all that really is lost is just Franken’s seniority, which really doesn’t matter a whit as to the balance of power between the parties.

Also see the Rep. Conyers accusations. He comes from a safe Democratic district, no risk of his seat going to the GOP when he steps down

And of course the 800 pound gorilla of the past, Bill Clinton. Going to the wall to protect him, when the consequence of his downfall would be… President Al Gore.

This makes it seem less a matter of protecting the Democrats limited power in Congress, but more about protecting individual men in congress, hiding behind party loyalty.

The “Politics isn’t a game of morality.” line seems to be a if THEY won’t stand up for morality, WE shouldn’t weaken ourselves with principles either. This only emboldens those in the GOP who refuse to withdraw support for Moore, when it actually DOES affect the balance of power in the Senate.

Maybe that’s the reason so many on the left are asking for Franken to step aside. Because they believe that it’s more important to hold themselves to a higher standard. Especially when it’s cost-free to the Democratic party’s power.

  4. Just for the hëll of it, I searched “Leeann Tweeden” on Amazon. Lots of posters from her modeling days. Shame on those photographers for asking her to molest herself.

  5. After almost twenty years of supporting you, I can’t do it anymore.

If you defend this guy because what happened to his victim “wasn’t as bad” as “real” rapes or violations, as it says in the article, no. I’m sorry, no. That exact mentality is what got me mocked for my date rape sixteen years ago. Because it wasn’t “violent”.

Defending this behavior in any way is morally wrong.

I’m sorry, Peter. You lost me with this one. This is indefensible.

    1. Queen, you’re lucky you didn’t find out what happened to Peter’s ex-wife after he publicly threw her under a bus during his tax-relief-begging scheme. What happened? Thuggish fans of Peter chose to hound her on Facebook until she protected herself by reducing her profile access. No less indefensible.
      .
Why haven’t you known about this until now? Because Peter deleted all reference to it on this blog.
      .
The Public Image must be maintained at all costs, mustn’t it?

      1. Actually, I deleted it at Myra’s suggestion. She informed me that while some people did bother her, which is not something I ever wanted, she just ignored them. She said you were clearly just looking for a fight and lying in the process, and that I should ignore you as well. Which I will henceforth do. You are hereby shrouded. I will never reply to you again, and I request other denizens of the board do likewise.
        Good-bye

      1. “I will never reply to you again…”

Uh-huh. Heard THAT one before. And so have too many other posters too numerous to mention. Based on historical evidence, “never” tends to last about three months…
