Doctor Who vs. John McCain

John McCain was so punchy that he got up in front of a crowd in Western Pennsylvania and accidentally said that he agreed with comments allegedly put forward by others that Western Pennsylvania is filled with racists.

And all I could picture was the Doctor standing toward the back of the rally and saying quietly to reporters within earshot, “Don’t you think he looks tired?”

  1. And they’re not a Michele Bachmann either. The news just broke (or I’ve just seen it for the first time) that the national GOP has pulled its ads and money from her campaign based on her comments on Hardball.

Oops. Sucks to be her I guess.

I wonder how long it will take Hannity and Rush to have her own and play her up as a poor victim who’s being persecuted by people that hate America and hate the truth?

  3. Ho-lee crap! Wow. That’s what you get when you build a promotion around a giant with a jaw of clay. Too bad about Gina, I liked her. I was looking forward to her vs Cyborg.

I’d still like to see Shamrock vs Slice.

  4. I don’t know, Craig, I kinda liked his “I couldn’t agree with them more!” blooper better. Hey, who had the more “oh $&!^” look on their faces? Was it the guy behind McCain when he had his “agree” goof or was it his wife when he combined some words by accident and said a less than nice name for a woman?

Man, you must have ice water in your veins if that doesn’t scare you. You are definitely my go to guy if we ever need to defuse a bomb 🙂 (And don’t worry, I’ll be right behind you.) (Far, far behind you)

Well, as i said in another post – yesterday (22 October) was my 60th birthday, which means i turned 14 on 22 october 1962. And people wonder why the motto of many of my generation was “Live fast. Die young. Leave a good-looking corpse.” – we didn’t expect to see thirty, at least not in a world where Washington DC and Moscow didn’t glow in the dark…

It’s easy to say, in retrospect, “They didn’t think they could carry it through.”

But – especially when we heard that Major Anderson had been shot down – at the time were were sort of nervous.

  7. Not really too germane, but this is what Stephen King supposedly said in SLATE:

There’s that scene in “The Dead Zone” where Johnny Smith sees Greg Stillson in the future starting a nuclear war. Around my house we kinda laugh when Sarah Palin comes on TV, and we say, “That’s Greg Stillson as a woman.”

  8. I’ve been afk for a couple days.

    Freshness brings new perspective.

One or two of you guys might need to take a couple days off from the internet in the interest of mental health.

  9. Palin has boners? Wow. I bet a lot of men who think Palin is hot are now very confused about their sexual identity.

Before anyone asks: yes, that really is the best I can add to this conversation right now. 🙂

    Well, it is Friday morning!

  12. Dang, if I were a Republican, I’d be kind humiliated at the campaign that McCain has run….(for starters, you really think he’d as much problem with Huckabee on the ticket?)

One should never feel humiliated by the actions of a politician just because he or she shares a party affiliation. Thinking that way is what keeps people supporting someone way after they should would normally have tossed them aside.

“I’ve been afk for a couple days.”

Ok, I’m gonna show my unhipocity here…what does afk mean??? Can it be treated?

  15. how DARE he?!?
A guy who has been running a presidential campaign for months AND he looks tired?!?
    What a frickin’ wimp.
By the way PAD, when can I expect My refund for all of your comics/books/etc. of yours I bought?
When Are You Gonna Start “Spreading The Wealth”? Which unless I’m wrong, is what Obama said he wants to do.
It’s not fair that you make all that money while I struggle.
Tell you what, I’ll send you a list of the books I get each month, and you can send them to me for half price.
By the way, NO I am not voting for mcain

  16. So, Dave, you would prefer the continued concentration of all available wealth into the hands of an inherited aristocracy?

And if you live in the United States, you are sharing in PAD’s “wealth” – at least, I’m pretty sure he’s tossing more into the tax pot than I am… You see, those taxes that McCain so disparages are exactly what funds the programs he so loves – Medicare, Social Security, veteran’s benefits, the $5000 refundable tax credit he thinks will actually cover any significant part of a decent health care plan, et cetera, et cetera. (Where did you think the government got money – bake sales? Or did you think those little green pieces of paper the Treasury Department churns out are actually money? They’re not – they’re just a convenient way to keep score.)

AFAIK: As Far As I Know. 🙂

Uhm… Take a closer look at the photo. Take a look at the bottom of the picture. You can get back to us on that later if you want.

When Are You Gonna Start “Spreading The Wealth”? Which unless I’m wrong, is what Obama said he wants to do.

Well, yeah, if you take the one line and only the one line from the “Joe the Plumber” question and act like the other two minutes or so of what he said doesn’t exist.

  19. I don’t know, do they play Australian Rules football in Kingston?

Kensington Rugby Union club – I don’t know how they went this year. 🙂

  21. I just got off the phone with a friend from college. At one point, we got to talking about the election. I asked him, “don’t you think McCain looks tired?”

His reply: “Yes. He always looks tired.”

My friend has found McCain disappointing on many levels.

  22. I don’t know, do they play Australian Rules football in Kingston?

I don’t know. I was just messing with you. I live in America, but I listen to the ABC on net radio and get a lot of scores from their reports. Everytime I hear the words “Kingston” and “sports scores” in the same broadcast…

It just never seems to be pretty.

  24. There was a news feed that MSN used to have on its Media Player that was tagged as The Australian Broadcasting Channel. It was, per broadcasting hour, about 1/2 Australian news, 1/4 BBC World news feed and 1/4 American NPR. I used to love it because you got a fairly wide range of news and views, but MSN dropped it off of their channel feeds around the beginning of the year.

Still, a lot of the sports talk on the Australian news stuck in my brain because, while all of what was said was said in English, there’s no way that Australian sports slang is a language in any way truly related to English.

  26. “When Are You Gonna Start “Spreading The Wealth”? Which unless I’m wrong, is what Obama said he wants to do.”

I’m torn between admiration and confusion.

Even after a finantial crisis caused by uncontrolled greed, cowboy individualism, and blind faith in the “free” market, the conservatives STILL think any slight increase of taxation to the rich and more security for the vast majority of society is a horrible thing.

And they’re not shy about saying so! Even when McCain is in serious risk of losing the election because (among other things) most of the American people see him as putting the corporations first, the little guy last.

McCain and Palin and most conservatives keep saying stuff that has always been in the mouths of people that caused this finantial crisis in the first place! Do they really want to lose? Should I admire them for sticking to their convictions even when the boat is sinking, instead of saying what most people want to hear?

  28. Here, the ABC is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (used to be Commission) – our version of the BBC.

Kingston is in the West Indies, I think. The only other Kingston that I can think of off the top of my head, is a suburb of Canberra (good pub there).

Not said in English, Mate – in dinki-di Australia. Sounds a bit like Radio National (one of the national ABC stations). http://www.abc.net.au/rn/

  30. of course that should have been:
“…dinki-di Australian…” shouldn’t type with long nails and no glasses.

  32. They could be a soccer or Rugby Union Club, I guess. I don’t follow Union or Soccer., so I’m not familiar with the clubs. They’re not in the National Rugby League or Australian Football league.

  34. Looks like a lower-division Australian footy team. Check page 6 of this page:

They don’t look too bad there. They were beaten by the Rhinebeck Rage on 4/27/8, but they did beat the Town of Wallkill Storm, and the Carmel Blue Crew…
