  1. I posted this elsewhere, but have not yet received a response, figured I’d try here..
I’ve heard that the voting pool on the Harveys are really rather small in comparison to other awards. Is it also true that these votes have to be handwriten and mailed in rather than having creators email their votes or go to a websiter, log in and vote? I’m just curious as to behind-the-scenes aspect of this award. Does anyone out there have any info on the total number of voters or votes or anything like that?

  2. congrats man. i have not read it yet, but i have it out from my local library. i will probably get to it in the next couple of days, though.

  3. I get both the Eisner and Harvey ballots in the mail. If there’s an electronic ballot, I don’t know about it off hand. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

According to the Harvey Awards site (http://www.harveyawards.org ), voting is open to people working in comics in a creative capacity (writers, pencillers, inkers, colorists, letterers, designers, and editors.) By comparison, the Eisner Awards (the other major inudsry award) accepts voting from comics creators as well as comics retailers. Logically, then, the pool of eligible voters for the Harveys is smaller than the Eisners. So it’s indeed plausible that the Harvey’s are determined by a smaller number of voters than the Eisners are, but it’s impossible to say for sure unless the awards release more data on their voters’ numbers, which is unlikely.
I notice that both the Eisners and the Harveys include information on how to vote either by e-mail or by mail-in-hard-copy ballot. The Eisners have online voting, but the Harveys don’t seem to. I think, though, that this is a new development for the Eisners, so maybe future years will bring online voting to the Harveys as well…
has instructions both for downloading a ballot (
