On the road again

With house sitter firmly in place to keep the house lived in, the David family hit the road for an East Coast excursion.

Right now we’re down in Atlanta, so that Kath can visit with her parents and siblings. The monkey wrench in the works is that Caroline developed a cast of the croup last night, for which there’s not a ton that can be done short of helping her ride out the cough with everything from cool air to sitting in the bathroom with the shower going so she can breathe in the steam (fortunately, being a middle-aged Jew, a steam room is more or less my natural habitat.)

Fortunately the doctor says it’s a minor case and she should be in good shape within a few days. The 27th, we’ll be heading down to Disney where we’ll be spending New Years. Since we’re anticipating crowds there, we’ll be going lots of places we don’t ordinarily go (Disney miniature golf, anyone?)

Holy crap, thats not just in movies like “Rounders” and šhìŧ, its actually common? Shut up.

What the heck do people do in steam rooms anyway? I think I’m not secure enough in my hetrosexuality to venture into one.

  2. Disney miniature golf, anyone?

Oh, heck yes. Note, though, that the Blizzard Beach courses are pretty ordinary. You want to go to Fantasia Fairways, down the Swan and Dolphin, which is among my favorite mini-golf courses. It has an interesting normal mini-golf course, as well as a fun (and far more difficult than it looks) normal golf course *in* miniature. The contoured landscape makes for really tricky and fun putting…

  3. I’ll be in Disney too — maybe we’ll spot each other :-p

(maybe I should carry around some PAD comics to be signed…)

  4. What, no movie and Chinese food on Christmas? And you call yourself a middle-aged Jew, breaking tradition like that. 🙂

Sorry the little one isn’t feeling well. Hopefully she’ll get better after a nice shvitz.

  5. If you haven’t been to Universal Studio’s “Islands Of Adventure” you might thoroughly enjoy that. The Spider Man ride is interesting and the Hulk Roller coaster is great if you enjoy that kind of thing. Much Marvel in evidence.

  6. So ya…nothing to do with this blog but…..I just saw the cover to Issue #78 of the Hulk….I don’t know if I should scream “Finally someones gonna fix him” (no pun intended) or if I should tell you your a bášŧárd, cause I just can’t escape buyin the green goliaths book…and you…YOU…just kidding, I love your work, merry Christmas.

Maybe you’ll bump into each other on the “It’s a Small World” ride. (Everyone reading this now rolls their eyes and groans.)

—-I make no excuses. The shot was there and I took it. 😉

  8. You’re going to WDW on Xmas week?

    Are you insane?

Even if you are not going to the parks, it’s crazy at every venture there. I hope you guys the best, though – have fun.

  9. My wife (the lovely Tayna–pronounced Tanya) and I honeymooned in Orlando; we both enjoyed the Jurassic Park section of the Islands of Adventure as well as the Double Dragon roller-coaster.

I’ve been watching some of the coverage of the tidal wave that struck the Indian Ocean. I pray that the survivors receive prompt aid (our disaster relief efforts are one of the things that reminds me that I can still be proud that I’m American). I hope that futurist and s.f. writer Arthur C. Clarke is well; I heard that the city he resides in was hit. Finally, I can only hope that a large percentage of those washed away on the beaches were the baby rapists who visit Sri Lanka and Thailand for their nefarious purposes (some good has to come out of even the worst disasters).

  10. Actually, the time between Thanksgiving (more likely 2 weeks prior to) and New Years are GREAT times to go to DisneyWorld. Crowds are down, weather is nice.

  11. Ooh, Disney miniature golf. I cherish the time my family and I spent at Fantasia Gardens, even though it was 100 degrees and my mother nearly had a heat stroke. I, on the other hand, was eleven years old, and therefore insensitive to temperature.

However, the twenty minutes spent to see the fake Triceratops and its pile of dung ranks as the time in my life most poorly spent. My kids won’t let me forget it. I love the rest of the park (except for Dr. Doom’s ride which will causes your stomach to separate from the rest of your body)

  13. I’m not sure how cold it is out there, but if the lakes freeze, don’t go onto them to get the ball. Trust me on that one. I was lucky that the ice cracked before I could get my second foot on it.

  14. Aw – I should check this page more often…

I work at Disney part time… I could’ve gotten you and your family in for free 🙂

And approximately 60% off some of the hotels

Anyhoo – Have a wonderful, safe vacation.

  15. When is the next New Frontier Book coming out? I loved “After the Fall” and can’t wait for the next book!! You are my favorite ST author and New Frontier is my all time favorite series. Please hurry!!! 🙂
