Just so everyone is clear as to who is posting the entry. This is Kathleen aka the Wife.
Peter has not giving up on Cowboy Pete. He knows how much y’all (I can use it since I lived in the South for about 1/2 my life) enjoy talking about TV.
He has been rather busy the past few weeks and probably the next couple working on finishing up several projects before years end. Some of which he has talked about and a few we still have to keep under wraps until the contracts/agreements are dry. Welcome to the life of a freelance.
Kath

“Patience is a virtue.”
“Not right now it isn’t!”
I can easily give up/wait for Cowboy Pete if it means excellent Peter Davidy goodness next year.
And depending on which part of the South in which you lived, “y’all” is singular while “all y’all” is plural.
I’m pleased to hear that PAD is so busy. Continued success in the new year.
I’m a bit disturbed that the first image I had in my head when reading “Peter Davidy goodness” was PAD wedged between two chocolate cookie wafers.
Now back to reality and your regularly scheduled program.
I don’t think you’re the only one disturbed by that, Fred…
TWL
I hope this means more New Frontier and Fallen Angel.
JHL
I’m still waiting to hear PAD’s reaction to Pedro pitching at Shea.
Peace,
Doug
Good for Peter. Of course I will now lose sleep wondering about what other projects Peter is working on at this moment. I would love for one of these projects to be a Doctor Who audio featuring the Sixth Doctor.
Fortunately, LOST is on hiatus until the new year. I hope Cowboy Pete will be caught up by the time the new episodes start.
Good news for PAD, bad news for those of us who loved the Cowboy Pete Roundups. (Heck, the last comments by PAD on Desperate Housewives and Lost were mixed in the censorship posts.)
Thanks for letting us know why these ain’t comin’ anytime soon. Good to know.
I’ll start the roundup here.
Spoilers**
LOST: Getting better and better. Two thoughts, did the islands mysterious powers help revive the dead rock and roll guy (I think of him as the “Hobbit”)? And is the “Hobbit” now changed from his death and revival?
Veronica Mars: An ordinary mystery about a poker game with some heavy side stuff about the Big Mystery (What does Mrs. Kane know?)
“Peter Davidy Goodness”
Yes… Disturbing mind pictures abound.
I, too, look forward to another batch of PAD projects reaching my grubby paws.
SIDENOTE:
I recently started on the Sir Apropos novels and have concluded that it’s a dámņ good thing I don’t have a room mate. Someone hearing that much laughter coming from a bedroom with one occupant couln’t possibly be good for me. I can just hear it, “He’s in his room alone and laughing like a madman. I think he’s planning to take over the world.”
People think I’m nuts anyway.
Regards,
Mitch Evans
I’m of two minds regarding the hobbit revival on LOST. On the one hand I like the character and am glad that we will see more of him. On the other, I was thinking as I watched it “Ðámņ! this really IS a show that isn’t afraid to break the rules!” when they went right ahead and brought him back (and presumably without the massive brain damage that I think he would have suffered from that much lack of oxygen to the brain).
Also: the discovery of the metal plate under the soil opens up the very real possibility of Mole People and I always say it is a rare show indeed that would not be improved by the addition of Mole People.
It’s okay Peter, I and the rest of fandom can wait for the next Round up. Whatever projects you are actually working on right now are more important.
Yet if you have not done so already, please remember to take a break now and then, not only for your own sake and health, but for those of your family as well.
Happy Holidays everyone!
Lee.
While I know many folks will see Charlie’s “resurrection” as a cop out, I still have to respect this show for making me doubt the outcome. Frankly, way back before the premier, I though Dom/Merry/Charlie wasn’t going to make it out of the pilot. “Dominic Monaghan on LOST”…oh, he’s dead for sure.
The thing about the show now is that they can’t go off and kill a character that has unresolved issues about them. Hurley/Hugo can’t get killed till we know why folks back home call him a warrior. Sun and *Gavin* have a lot to resolve. All the main players have mystery hooks in them that elevate them above Red Shirt status.
Although I did think Boone was done for. He pretty much told us all we needed to know about him.
So Charlie’s desire to help Claire was pulling in his favor. But still, what a ballsy move for a show to do if they had actually offed their biggest *name* actor mid-way through the season.
I’m also of a mixed mind about Charlie’s revival. The longer it took, the more of an “only on TV” situation did it seem.
Now, what would have been surprising is this:
As in the aired episode, Jack struggles to revive Charlie, to no apparent effect. Kate pleads with him to stop, but he gives it one more try, and by some miracle it works! He’s saved Charlie!
Bang!
Kate’s horrified gaze goes from the bullet hole in Jack’s heart to the still-smoking gun in “Ethan’s” hand (I think that’s his name; I’m blanking out.).
“I told him to stop following me.”
Now _that_ would have really caught people off guard. Not only because we’d be focused on whether or not Charlie was dead, and wouldn’t have expected someone else to die; but also because Jack has been one of the major lead characters. And if _he_ turns out to be a Red Shirt, then _anybody_ is fair game.
Anyway, that’s how I would’ve written it if they’d asked me to, and _any_ of the characters could’ve been killed off.
Speaking of Red Shirts, I liked Locke’s comment about those unfortunate crew members on the original Star Trek.
“Piss poor captain.”
Rick
My guess is that Hurley is a gamer who favors the fighter classes. Not a slam–I’ve been playing D&D since the mid-1980s, myself. As for Charlie’s survival, he must not have been deprived of oxygen long enough for brain damage to set in. He was doubly lucky that his throat hadn’t suffered enough damage to swell shut and further block the doctor’s attempts at revival.
Rick…
wow…that would have been cool…in that “Noooooo ,they killed JACK” kind of way.
One thing I am curious about “Ethan Rom”. Not his real name. Is this an anagram? “More than”, The roman” etc…
Other man.
Apparently Jack was supposed to have died in the pilot, but at some point they decided to keep him around.
PAD is busy pursuing his craft and making cash to support his family?
Jeez some people have their priorities so messed up. Doesn’t he know we can’t live a full life without the Cowboy Updates?
LOL!
“My guess is that Hurley is a gamer who favors the fighter classes.”
Which would be great except that so far they have avoided the easy explanations…so in what way COULD a guy as physically out of shape as Hurley be a “warrior”? Hmmmm… (and thanks for reminding me–I remember wondering just what he meant by that but I’d forgotten. LOST is defionitely a show worth taping and watching twice.)
I missed the first few episodes of Lost and started watching based on the enthusiasm of the people here. I can’t wait to see the pilot tonight.
I miss his Smallville reviews 🙁
I agree on the Smallville reviews, and I also agree with the bloggers who mention New Frontier.
How about Babylon 5? JMS has been hinting about something in the works, and the Centauri stories were awesome. I think there are still alot of stories to be told in the B5 Universe.
“The shy should be lighting up any moment now…
It should be quite…beautiful…”
Re LOST, I wanted to take this chance to pass on a theory of a friend of mine, Kent Lucas.
It concerns the mysterious critter on the island. Kent believes it is one of three things:
1) And elephant
2) A giraffe
3) A tiger on a pogo stick.
I know which one I’M pulling for.
LOST: Under normal circumstances, reviving Charlie after he’d been hanging (literally) for who knows how long, then failed to show any signs of life after lotsa CPR was done, would seem to be a cop-out. However, the island seems to give as well as take. Locke got his legs back. Charlie got his guitar back — right above him — when he gave up drugs. Jack found the water when he first came to terms with his father’s actions; perhaps this time that realization (not giving up, no matter what) was what brought Charlie back.
I was a little underwheled with Claire and the psychic. WHile the psychic’s actions were creepy, and he definitely had an ulterior motive (refusing money once could be a ploy to get more; twice seems unlikely), unless he actually shows up on the island he’s a non-factor.
My guess about Hurley is that he’s a total fanboy — D&D, STAR TREK, STAR WARS — who’s also an Internet bilionaire. Being stuck on an island with no electricity would make him just another fanboy. (It would also make him owing the kid $20,000 for Backgammon losses surprisingly literal.)
Of course, the coolest moment on TV in the past 3 weeks was ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT. For their Christmas episode, several times when a character was down they’d walk, head hung down, while the slow piano music from A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS played. One of these times, a character walked past a red doghouse with a sleeping beagle on top. Heh heh heh…
Arrested Development is the best comedy on television.
Just thought I’d share that.
For the record The Wire is the best drama.
