Upgrade progress (or lack thereof)

The process continues. A few notes:

* Thnaks to Mark L. for pointers that are helping solve some of the problems. However, they don’t seem to be addressing problems with Typekey themselves, as it’s refusing to send me a registration email. If anybody else has been able to become a registered user of Typekey, let me know– and of course, please try to use it here, so I have a real registered commentor to test against.

* Secondly, I have discovered only after upgrading that MT-Blacklist is incompatible with the new version of Movable Type– which means my spam inbox is going to be exploding shortly. Thanks heaps, SixApart– I’m SO glad I paid you money.

Folks, if you can avoid upgrading, DON’T. If any representatives of SixApart would deign to contact me so that these niggling little problems can be worked out, feel free– otherwise, I’m going to keep using the bully pulpit here.

* Finally, to the chap who prompted all of this in the first place: Dee, you better run. Peter was merely ticked at you; I’m now out for blood after having to spend hours cleaning up your messes. Disconnecting your Comcast account isn’t going to be enough to hide– I recommend moving.

UPDATE: If I didn’t make it clear, when you post, clicking on Typekey should allow you to sign up so that you won’t have to wait for your posts to be approved. So please do so, because otherwise who knows when your comments will go live.

FURTHER UPDATE (3:51 PM): Typekey has numerous reports of the confirmation emails being blocked as spam. So we’re working with that as well. Joy.

  1. Do we know where Dee lives? If he lived anywhere in my neck of the woods, I’d be happy to join the hunt.

  2. Testing 1 2 3.
Thanks for the advice Glenn. I’ve just started up a few blogs with MT-2.661 and didn’t want to upgrade. Now I know I was right.

  3. I’m good to go; I had to get in and out of TypeKey first, though, because I couldn’t read the verification string.

  4. Long time lurker, first time poster (I think). Nothing much to say , other than I’m a fan of Peter’s work.

  5. A shame you both have been put through the nonsense these past days and weeks. Hopefully this will make things better.

Just a few minutes with TypeKey registration, also. Piece of cake, quick.

  6. This is a test.

2X 2L calling CQ. 2X 2 L calling CQ New York. Is there anyone on the air? Is there anyone? Is there anyone…??

  7. I think Dee at one point said she lived in MA (hence the first time I noticed her ravings, being that I grew up in MA, and she claimed to know how aweful Kerry would be as president simply because she’s from the same state).

    Uh, Monkeys, I guess.

  8. Just testing.

Registration that was easy. The only big difference is that from now on I’ll be posting with the nickname I’m used to use in boards like Whedonesque, while I was used to use my real name to comment in here.

  9. Wow…

I can’t imagine the work involved with doing something like this.

Good luck Glenn, Peter, and whomever else might be involved.

  10. O.K, I’ve just gone through the typekey registration process. Let’s see if this posts without difficulty.

“Hello! Hello, Earth. This is Captain John Black. Do you read me, Earth? The Martians are–“

  11. Back again, not using Typekey this time, with a question. Is there a way we can _not_ have our E-Mail addresses show when we go in through Typekey? I don’t mind giving it to Glenn or Peter for their records, but I get enough spam as it is, and don’t want it out there for just anyone who reads the blog.

  12. Just a lurker, but just in case you need to be registered in the future just to read the log. Best wishes to all.

  13. The dude ditched his Comcast account to hide?? l00zer. Dude isn’t even a conservative (holds up voter registration stamped Republican), he’s just a yackass. He one day hopes to graduate to being a jáçkášš. Anihilate.

  14. Well, I just registered with typekey. I hope this “Dweeb” hunt is fun and short-lived.

  15. I’ve got my bloodhound with me, and he’s trained to kill. And he loves the smell of troll blood in the morning.

  16. No problems with TypeKey.

Hey Glen (and Peter). If you have time to breathe at ShoreLeave, find me at the Philcon table. I’ll buy ya both a drink and we can pin up one of Dee’s posts on the bar dartboard if they have one…

  17. Testing as well. Took a bit of time to get TypeKey to register me, but it seems to be working now.

  18. Well, that was a surprise; thanks to this new feature of PeterDavid.net I was just reminded that I’d already signed up at TypeKey. 🙂

  19. Instead of dealing with all this stuff for comments why not just setup a smaller version of a message board like millarworld uses. It seems to work quite well.. when they don’t forget to renue their domain. 😉

  20. No problem registering at TypeKey or signing in here. This is actually a lot easier (I s’pose you have to remember not to clear out your cookies, or you’ll have to log in manually at TypeKey, correct?)

  21. When I saw the last entry, I tried to post a question, “How do you like registered comments?” And then I saw the snafu and decided not to ask. Definitely something to remember if/when I upgrade, though I’ve no problems with TypeKey, when I have to use it on various sites. I’m eagerly waiting for the next version of Blacklist to come out. In addition to supporting 3.0, the plugin also offers a groups fuction, which sounds kinda neat.

  22. Having been in charge of a forum myself in the past, I completely feel your pain, Glenn…Here’s hoping you get it all taken care of quickly, so that you can try to forget this whole ugly mess.

  23. Ground control to Major Tom?

    I am Spartacus!

    You can’t handle the truth!

I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley.

Look, Daddy…Teacher says every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings.

    You talkin’ to me?

    Adrienne! Yo Adrienne!

Snakes. Why’d it have to be snakes?

That concludes my test using notable film quotes. We now return Glenn to his regularly scheduled state of frustration. 😉

  24. This is all so sad but inevitable.

When a person opens a ‘door’ to anyone not every one appreciates the courage that act entails and instead of ‘playing’ nice they bring their ‘demons’ with them.

Well as the saying goes, some people bless a place when they arrive … others when they leave. Or exiled, as it were.

Certainly this website is blessed now that Dee is gone.

  25. So, Peter, how come you do not ask for comments on your newest issue of SOULSEARCHERS AND COMPANY?

  26. Random quote I recall from “Q-Squared”:

Thomas Ian Riker to Commander Picard: “I don’t believe you were ever young. And did you ever have hair?!”

Note that this is only a test of the PAD logging in system typing (PAD-LIST). If this were an actual PAD-LIST, there would be some worthwhile comments. But this is a crappy post. Yipee ki yay.

    Chris

  27. Typekey’s little test to make sure you’re a person and not a bot is nice… except I could barely read the thing….
    Just a comment.
