  1. Yes, TMNT was cancelled. I believe that PAD
somewhere commented that the publishers cut
their portion of the profits a little too thin,
and couldn’t afford to continue to publish.
I think this was in the 25 questions thread over
on one of those news sites.

Isn’t it odd, what with people complaining of
internet theives, that S&S would make it easier
by putting all the NF novels on CD-ROM?
    Must be a trap.

Regarding JLA/Doom Patrol, if you’re not already
aware, the Byrne/Claremont reunion is just a
setup for a new Doom Patrol series to be written/drawn/but not inked by John Byrne,
so it may be awhile before PAD gets a shot at it.

Just a set-up? I have been enjoying the Claremont/Byrne JLA story with very little intention of piking up DP when it comes out.

  3. mark coale said “We need the return of “TV Round-Up.” There have been, I think, 2 or 3 “Aliases” since the last one.”

Not to mention several Tru Callings and the demise of Wonderfalls. Would love to hear PAD’s thoughts on each.

  4. And Byrne has announced that in a major retcon for no reason, the current bits in the JLA are to be considered the first DCU appearances of Rita, Larry, Cliff, and Niles. Gar “Beast Boy/Changeling” Logan is reportedly joining with Donna Troy in a “What did we ever do to *your* continuity” protest to Bryne. 🙂

  5. Happy Easter to those who celebrate. Happy “we have until Tuesday when Passover is over and we can have bread again” to those who celebrate.

Hey, PAD, would love to read your thoughts on Alias, the new Spiderman trailer (if you’ve seen it) and hey, what movies are you looking forward to seeing in the spring and summer?

  6. Hurray for Open Thread.

I was in New York last month, and my question is: Why does the Naked Cowboy in Times Square only has one song to sing? You think with a lot of inspiration around him, he’d come up with something better than just “I’m the Naked Cowboy…” over and over and over again…

  7. A few random comments about the above:
    1. I happen to like the Banana Splits too, and the rendition of “Peter Cottontail” on the Toys ‘R’ Us commerical is by Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Anyone care to know more, or discuss them, The Archies or Josie and the Pussycats?
I was a child of the sixties, but in this case a lot more literally than those who had the privilege to attend the original Woodstock.
    2. Add my voice to “Where is the TV Roundup?”
And I still say (since the first TV Roundup of the current season) that by the Alias season finale, Sydney is going to wake up either next to or trapped inside the Rambaldi device and discover that the ‘missing’ two years was all a scam.
After all, doesn’t making Lauren the Covenant mole seem just a little too pat? Although who actually shot the senator was a pretty dramatic twist.
    3. The networks have set some high ‘standards’ for themselves over the last decade.
Case in point: considering how much the casts of such shows as Friends and Fraiser have collected for their last few seasons, the cast of the Simpsons DO deserve raises per se, but not to the extent that they are actually asking for.
This comment is not based on the Simpsons being a cartoon, but on the facts that:
    a. the Simpsons cast do not have to do all the physical work (filming) than the other shows, so therefore
    b. the Simpsons cast has more time for side-line/alternate work when they are not recording episodes, which most of them do.
    Just one man’s humble opinions.
Happy Holidays everyone! Whatever you celebrate.

  8. Ooh. Open thread. I think I’ll ask a question…sort of.

What if every time a mommy bird fed it’s babies, it made a really loud heaving and puking noise?

    Oh, and

    Monkeys

  9. James Lynch: What superhero, superheroes, or team would work best in a pørņø?

Luigi Novi: That’s easy. Reed Richards, Elongated Man and Plastic Man (or any shapeshifter with open-form changing abilities, if you think about it).

As for women, Rogue (as drawn by Marc Silvestri, Jim Lee or Alan Davis), Storm (as drawn by John Byrne or Jim Lee), She-Hulk (as drawn by John Byrne), Captain Britain’s girlfriend Meggan (as drawn by Alan Davis), the Gen13 and Danger Girl girls (as drawn by J. Scott Campbell), Liberty Meadadows (as drawn by Frank Cho), Vampirella (as drawn by many different artists like Arthur Adams, or as modelled by Sasha Knopf), and Jonni Future (as drawn by Arthur Adams).

Um, why is everyone looking at me like that?

  10. How can you talk superheros and pørņø and not mention PowerGirl. Granted she’d need a wide angle lens to get her chest all in the frame.

And btw did you know in Great Britan it’s illegal to eat a sheep you’ve had sex with? Like sheep bëšŧìálìŧÿ is such a commom problem they’d need a law like that.

  11. Just when I thought my life would be TV free with the ending of Buffy and now Angel I now go and get hooked on Alias…

  12. Not into Alias, but I know what you mean about TV holding little anymore…

Still there’s the the Simpsons, King of the Hill, Malcolm in the Middle, Teen Titans, and soon, All new episodes of Family Guy!

Maybe once Tru Calling dies they get that Faith spin-off going since it looks like no pickup for Angel anywhere….

Too bad costs are too high to just do a show like Angel straight to DVD and skip network “Standards & Practices” altogether…

And speaking of DVDs… Did anyone see on Amazon they’re advertising the First Season of Quantum Leap on DVD for this summer? Of course, it’s only 8 episodes and they’re pricing it at Star Trek levels rather than the more acceptable Buffy/Angel season set levels, but they figure the fans have been waiting so long that gouging is OK…. (List is $60/ Amazon offering for 41.99 (Free Shipping if you choose the “Take eternity to deliver” option; but still only 8 episodes in season 1)

  13. My apologies if this has already been asked in this thread already, but I wanted to ask this before the mods closed the door on this thread forever.

    Fast question for PAD:

In a much earlier open thread you stated that one of your dream projects was to write a book (or ten 🙂 in Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders uninverse. My question is, if you were given the go-ahead to do any story you wanted there, and allowed to use any character and set piece you wanted without interference, what would you write? Which characters would you like to use (and why), where on the timescale would you like to put the story(s), and what themes/danglers would you like to explore/resolve?

    Chris

    who really thinks a PAD-written Dragonrider book would be a great read. . . . . seriously.

  14. I realize this isn’t the best place to try to defend John Byrne, but the “together again for the first time” approach to Doom Patrol is an
editorial decision being passed down to him.
Not that he’s unhappy with that, but it wasn’t
    his decision.

Meanwhile, the same editorial seems perfectly
willing to let him take the blame for that approach. I find it interesting that they
supposedly plan to ignore the Beast Boy connection
yet at the same time I hear the new Teen Titan trade affirms the connection.

And yes, I’m enjoying it as a JLA story too.

  15. Can someone please give me a synopsis of the latest Alias episode? I didn’t know that they were showing it at 10 (because of that variety hour or whatever show).

    Thanks.

  16. Mackaybear: How can you talk superheros and pørņø and not mention PowerGirl. Granted she’d need a wide angle lens to get her chest all in the frame.

Luigi Novi: Sorry. Yeah, Power Girl as drawn by Adam Hughes. I also forgot Adam Hughes’ version of Wonder Woman.

  17. Open Thread!

    Hey everybody,

Hope you all had a good weekend and a Happy Easter.

How about a little upcoming news for the horror crowd. Who saw The Ring? No, no, no. Not the one being taken to the fire pit by the three short guys! The other one. Scary movie about the tape that you saw and died from seven days later unless Frank got in his big blue time machine and went back in time… Wait… Now I’m getting my shows mixed up…
Anyway, If you liked the Ring then keep on eye out. There was a horror movie over in Japan called Ju-On that makes the Ring seem like a kid’s bedtime story. And they’re remaking it for the U.S. with the people who created the first one and even, if I read it right, some of the same cast.
Just thought I’d let everyone else know. Little horror geek that I am.

    Jerry

  18. Luigi Novi,

Not just Hughes’ Power Girl. The first cover of her from her early 90’s four issue mini looked like a dead heat in a zeplin race. Cliche comment as it is; I always wondered how comic book women could bend over to pick something up without throwing a disc or two.

  19. Hey Bladestar,

Leap can be found, and at a much better price, at http://www.cduniverse.com. Plus the shipping isn’t high and I always get my stuff in seven days or less. They’ve been around for some time now and I’ve used them lots of times with no problems for a liitle over two years now. Another site to check is deepdiscountdvd.com. Free shipping, takes about ten days but I heven’t checked the price yet.
    Also on cduniverse.com’s upcoming list…
    Thin Blue Line DVD set
    Northern Exposure Season 1
Monarch of the Glenn Season 2
    Coupling Season 3

Sadly, no signs of WKRP, Night Court or Lovejoy.

  20. Ok, last post for a bit. But I had to share this.

We all make fun of some of the dumb names they come up with in comics, movies and on TV. Just as I posted my last post, the radio news said that they just had a guy broken out of the Louisa County, Va jail by his girlfriend. His name (spelled how it sounds)….

    Yaya Vinnie

I want that name to show up as the next great evil doer in comics. He would win every fight. All he would have to do is say his name in the over done way that they always do and the good guys would all find it to hard to do anything other then hold their ribs and change their tights. 🙂

  21. Hey Peter I noticed you’ll be at the Motor City Comic Con in May do they have you in any panels or just autographing all day and will you be back in the fall ?

  22. Thnks Jerry, I figure Best Buy’ll do their standard “New Release Week Sale” and Can get it for less that way, but still, the “List Prince” is rather ridicolous.

Coupling Season 3 is one on your list I’m looking forward to. That American remake was atrocious, as was its casting for the roles….

  23. If your shoes could talk what would they say?

“Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Oh God, not the stairs – owowowowowowowow! Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow…”

  24. Re: Comic Heroines In Pørņøš

How can anyone not mention the Chaos!Lady Death, Vampirella, Lara Croft (by Hughes)or Catwoman, the biggest pussy of them all!!?
Also, has anyone ever pictured Mary Marvel in a Catholic schoolgirl outfit?

    ************************************************

Hate to break it to you Duane, but there’s no good reason you should be that close to the naked cowboy long enough to know he only knows one song. At the very least, you shouldn’t be admitting it on a relatively high traffic blog 🙂

  26. > If your shoes could talk what would they say?

“Kill us NOW, and please, make it quick.”

  27. Hope you all had a great Easter holiday.

I’m still pìššëd about the upcoming end to Captain Marvel, but I’m looking forward to PAD’s new Hulk limited series.

    Should be fun. 😀

  28. > Here’s a good quiz for PAD/Trek fans:

    > Which Star Trek First Officer Are You?
    brought to you by Quizilla

    > (I got Riker)

So did I, which seems…. very odd. I always thought I would be Spock. *shrugs*

  29. Re: Quantum Leap on DVD
Are they the complete and unedited episodes, including the set up leap from one episode to the next?
In the original network run of Season Three, “Last Dance Before An Execution” and “Shock Theatre” should be back to back, not split up by “Heart of A Champion” and “Nuclear Family”, as they have been presented ever since the first rerun.
BTW: Does anyone happen to know what ever became of Donald Bellasario’s proposed animated episode that he mentioned during the summer press conference before Season Five started?
If production ever got past the thinking about it stage, there might be an unpublished script or storyboards laying around somewhere that the fans have never seen (so far).

  30. Everything I’ve seen says uncut/unedited eps. But you’v got me on the rest. I haven’t seen a story order listing anywhere and only very little in the way of extras listings.

  31. Lee, don’t know the answer for sure, but if it’s anything like the Futurama DVD’s, the episodes will be in the order they were intended, rather than shown.

Fox screwed up with it’s handling of Futurama so bad….

  32. Jerry in Richmond, Va: Luigi Novi, Not just Hughes’ Power Girl. The first cover of her from her early 90’s four issue mini looked like a dead heat in a zeplin race.
    Luigi Novi: Who drew it?

Jerome Maida: How can anyone not mention the Chaos!Lady Death, Vampirella, Lara Croft (by Hughes)or Catwoman, the biggest pussy of them all!!?
Luigi Novi: If you use your browser’s Find feature, you’ll see I gave my pick for best rendition of Vampi appropriate for pørņø in my 4:20am post yesterday.

    As for the others?

Lady Death is way too pale. I like my women with some skin tone. And the Pulido version of her was WAY too trashily dressed, and way too pulchritudinous. The character looked ridiculous. One reason this question is fun is because these characters, despite sometimes being drawn by guys you’d swear needed to get laid, are still handled by the respective companies and owners as being family friendly, if a bit titillating. Mentioning Lady Death seems pointless to me, because she already LOOKS like a pørņø star. Ditto for Jim Balent’s Catwoman, a rendition that just looked plain retarded to me. (I mean, all that pointless cross-hatching constantly applied to the underside of her breasts? A suit so tight you can see her belly button? Pass.)

As for Lara Croft, the only version I’d consider is the Angelina Jolie version. Adam Hughes’ rendition of her ranks up there, but after all the ones we’ve mentioned, continuing to add more to the list seems redundant.

Oh, and the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman. Almost forgot that.:-)

  33. Here’s one: The most idiotic super hero toy ever. Here’s my vote: The Justice League Mission Vision figure of the Flash — RIDING A MOTIRCYCLE!!! What the @#$% does the fastest man alive need with a motorcycle? Either it’s far slower than him, and therefore pretty much useless, or it’s faster than him, making his power unimportant. (“I can run really fast. This motorcycle goes faster but… you know… I’m fast too. Really.”) To paraphrase the Seanbaby Super Frienes website, they didn’t give Superman a jet or Batman a wheelchair; if your power is running, you should do it every chance you get. One could argue that Flash needs the bike while his body recharges; but the show hasn’t had him requiring to chow down on food after every run to recharge his powers.

As for why it’s the most idiotic superhero toy, they should have known better. There have been pretty dumb superhero versions for kids — Fishing Spider-Man, Construction Hulk with Jackhammer — but those were aimed at kids. This is based on the Justice League cartoon, which is clearly aimed at older viewers: references to the Golden Age, suggestions of sex (between Hawkgirl and Green Lantern in at least 2 episodes), graphic violence (seeing Vandal Savage’s body reconstruct itself). They really should have known better.

For a picture of this, the site http://shop.store.yahoo.com/dragonballzcentral/juleacfidemo2.html was the first one that came up when I Googled for the figure. It’s probably also in most comic book stores and retail stores.

Looking forward to Aquaman with Action Scuba Gear,

    Jim Lynch

  34. More superheroes in pørņ!

Luigi Novi Wrote: “That’s easy. Reed Richards, Elongated Man and Plastic Man (or any shapeshifter with open-form changing abilities, if you think about it).

Yeah, Power Girl as drawn by Adam Hughes. I also forgot Adam Hughes’ version of Wonder Woman.”

Interesting, as I was thinking of live pørņ, not animated. If one was done animated, I’d just hope they don’t make the women’s breasts ridiculously large; otherwise you’d have a caricature, like Six in TRIPPING THE RIFT.

Jerome Maida wrote: “How can anyone not mention the Chaos!Lady Death, Vampirella, Lara Croft (by Hughes)or Catwoman, the biggest pussy of them all!!?
Also, has anyone ever pictured Mary Marvel in a Catholic schoolgirl outfit?”

Catwoman’s getting her own live-action movie. And I always thought Mary Marvel’s outfit *was* a slightly modified Catholic schoolgirl outfit!

So, here’s a Casting Call for actresses I’d love to see starring in a live-action superhero pørņø. (I’ll leave male actors to be cast by women or gay men):

    For the D.C. side

    Wonder Woman: Catherine Zeta-Jones
    Artemis: Keira Knightley, Carmen Electra
    Batgirl: Alyson Hannigan.
    Catwoman: Halle Berry. (Hey…)
Supergirl: Jenna Jameson (Why not have a pørņ star in a pørņ movie?), Jeri Ryan.
Poison Ivy: Nicole Kidman. (Leave it to Joel Schumacher to screw up Uma Thurman in this sexiest of roles.)
Harley Quinn: Paris Hilton or Cameron Diaz

    For the Marvel side:

Scarlet Witch: Beyonce (just imagine *her* in that red bustier!), Ali Landry
    Invisible Girl: Britney Spears
The Black Cat: Elisha Cuthbert or Jennifer Lopez
    The Wasp: Mandy Moore
Mystique: Rebecca Rominj-Stamos, then any other actress you want her to morph into.
    Psylocke: Lucy Liu

(Thanks to FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women special for helping me with this one.)
    Rogue: Shania Twain

  35. This is based on the Justice League cartoon, which is clearly aimed at older viewers: references to the Golden Age, suggestions of sex (between Hawkgirl and Green Lantern in at least 2 episodes)…

Not to mention some fun innuendoes from Hawkgirl –

FLASH: Hey, I am the fastest man alive!

HG: Maybe that’s why you can’t get a date.

  36. If it’s true

    1) (as one historian/genealogist believes) that Sen. Kerry is descended from the family of Rabbi Judah Loew of Prague.

    2) Rabbi Judah Loew of Prague, as legend suggests, really did create The Golem, a creature of clay to protect Prague

Then, should we expect a new Golem to be created if Kerry were elected, and since we’re speculating, in what form would that Golem take if you were God, and writing this comic book called life?

  37. The Golem would take the form of Al Gore Jr.

    Explains a lot, don’t it? 😉
