  1. so? put on slippers! what do u expect in the vast silence of cyberspace….

anyways. i liked Young Justice. btw thanks PAD for his help on my archaeology paper 2 semesters ago.

i did an article using Aquaman Time&Tide as a literary referrence. i got my A

    thanks

  2. So, does anyone know where you can get pink fuzzy bunny slippers in men’s sizes a la Hulk and Real Genius?

  3. What’s an open thread? Is that where we can ask questions? Because if it is, I’ll a Space Cases question, like, oh, “What was your favorite episode to work on?” (For PAD, of course.)

If it’s not, I’d just like to let all of you know that easter egg dye is dangerous when connected with an angsty high-schooler.

  4. Hello, I just stumbled in here, I’ve been a longtime fan of your comics for years, especially the Hulk run, and the CBG column… by the way, do you really like to be referred to as “PAD”? Just curious…

  5. Does anyone know what happened to Dreamwave’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Was it cancelled? I know they solicited issue 8 but it never came out. There is nothing on Dreamwave’s website.Did PAD pull out of the project?

    later

  6. Hmmmmm…

How will new heroes and villains be created for Marvel if everyone’s putting their energies into rehashing the existing history for the Ultimates storyline?

What superhero, superheroes, or team would work best in a pørņø?

    Fnord.

Why would anyone *not* go after Galactus first if the big guy was in HeroClix?

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck had bionic limbs? (What, you were expecting the same ol’ question?)

Will Mel Gibson do PASSION 2: THE SECOND COMING? How about those frickin’ Left Behind books?

If Hellboy fought Spider-Man, how many minutes would you have to think about that to qualify as a MegaGeek?

Once a year, everyone should be made to dress in a superhero costume. (Spandex — no John Constantine cop-outs.)

    And finally, hi!

  7. at the risk of not fitting in…

heres a little rant about comics (thought not one that PAD wrote)

did anyone happen to read the current issue of Fantastic Four where they meet GOD!

    God

oh yeah, and he was kirby.

    >cough, cough

  8. sorry…cut off msg continued here

yeah kirby….oh and btw he instanty fixed all the FF problems for no reason at all.

    richards scarred? not no more
    grimm dead? fixed

Remember six months ago Marvel was gonna can Waid from the title…if they knew about this storyline back then…I wish they had gone through with it.

  9. I did read that FF issue. I thought it was kinda cool. And the amount of wood a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck had bionic limbs depends on the size, amount, lifting ability, and power capacity of said limbs.

  10. Is there anything in the world that can match the love my siamese cat gives me, completely unconditionally? It is the greatest thing I have experienced outside of my own species.

There are many intelligent species in the universe, and they are all owned by cats.

  11. Happy Easter? to whom? PAD? He’s not really in that camp which celebrates Easter, religion-wise… although probably for Kathleen’s part, they do celebrate it. What’s not to love about chocolate bunnies and hidden eggs? 😎 And people who “got better.” (I think that’s PAD’s gag isn’t it?- “You’re dead!” “I got better.”)

Speaking of gags, I hate PAD. I was writing some Trek fanfic today, and I ended up writing a horrible joke in which someone complained about the sanity clause in a contract. The problem? He didn’t really believe in it. I need to stop reading PAD’s stuff. (Nah, I won’t, don’t worry.)

  12. Jay…you can love your pet, just don’t LOVE your pet. Say it with me: “us”, “them”, “us”, “them”. Boundaries are a good thing.

  13. Does anyone else have that Toys R Us Easter song stuck in their heads?

    Here comes Peter Cottentail
    Hopping down the bunny trail

  14. And we rapidly start to recall just why we haven’t had an open thread in a while…

  15. Do you think when they hold the annual White House Easter Egg Hunt this year they’ll actually find any Easter Eggs? I mean, the CIA “says” they’re there, so they MUST be…

  16. I’ve been hitting this site pretty regularly for a couple months now, I tend to agree with many of Peter’s viewpoints. However, what first brought me here was my interest in the New Frontier series. I read somewhere that the Stone and Anvil hardcover comes with a CD containing all the other books, but at each of the bookstores I’ve been to they only have just the book. I am in Canada though, so could this be an American deal only? Or perhaps was the info I read was wrong… More importantly, any word on the next installment? Is there any chance it could ever become a TV series?

  17. One of my favorite PAD stories is “Web of Spider-Man” #13 where Spidey finally confronts J Jonah Jameson after years of abuse. With some priceless exchanges, Jonah admits opinion on the Wall-Crawler or himself (or anyone) just depends on your “Point of View” (the story’s title), which is a fair way to describe people’s opinions on this site, wouldn’t you say?
Anyway, awesome story. An overlooked gem.

  18. Whelks! Whelks! EVERYWHERE!!!

    Sorry, got carried away 😀

Gone quiet in here all of a sudden?

When is the next New Frontier book out?

  19. Happy Easter Holidays! And to people who don`t celebrate Easter: I hope you have an enjoyable time this weekend.

I want to use this opportunity to ask two NF questions:

After John Ordover left, I am wondering who has NF under his or her wing now at Pocket Books.

I am also hoping for another No Limits book. I wonder if the NF anthology was a success so that there will be another one.

  20. Baerbell: I think Marco Palmieri is overseeing most of Pocket’s Star Trek branch now.

Now I have a question: So, how’d you like FOX screwing over Tim Minear again?

Hoppy Easter, everyone! (I kill me…)

  21. Mark, I bought Stone and Anvil in Canada and there was no CDROM in it. I really wish there was though. I have all the other books but I never got or read double time, the NF Comic, and was hoping to. Laeveolus, last I heard, we’re supposed to get a new New Frontier book in October (in hardcover….) and then Stone and Anvil is supposed to come out in paperback at the same time…but it’s been awhile since I heard that so it could have changed.

Happy Easter to those who celebrate, Happy Weekend to those who don’t!

    Jocelyn

  22. “Am open thread is hard to pass through an eye of a needle.” Episode 12 Kung Fu, cira 1972

  23. To James Lynch

Yeah, how ’bout them Left Behind books? Have you noticed that when anyone is ‘saved’ in them, all that’s left in this world is their clothing?

No clothes? Does this mean Heaven is just one great big nudist camp?

  24. Cheryl Wrote: “Yeah, how ’bout them Left Behind books? Have you noticed that when anyone is ‘saved’ in them, all that’s left in this world is their clothing?

Yup. So is hëll. The only difference between the two is who you see nekkid.

  25. >So is hëll. The only difference between the two is who you see nekkid.

Or is it who sees YOU nekkid?

  26. the new spinoff from friends: Joey. The presmise. After Feebie comes to visit Joey in his new LA apartment he goes crazy and kills her, destroying the body but leaving the head in a jar in his closet. Now every night Feebie’s head comes to life and warns joey of an impending doom which only he must solve.

  27. I just read the first 2 parts of the Claremont/Byrne JLA story “The Tenth Circle” and was intrigued to see it seems to feature a crossover between the Justice League and the original Doom Patrol. While later versions of the DP have had some good moments, I still think the original Arnold Drake version is the best — a great blend of off-beat characterization, humor and action, in just the right balance.

Unfortunately, the Claremont version of the characters (at least so far) lacks their spark and sparkle. Unless I can see whose speech balloon is pointing to whom, I can’t tell who’s talking — something that was not a problem when Drake was writing them.

And it occurred to me that PAD might be the most logical successor to AD on the DP. Off-beat characterization — yes. Off-beat action — yes. Off-beat humor, yes. Knowing how to balance them just right — yes. The more I think about it, the more I think PAD would be perfect for a revival of the one, the only, the original Doom Patrol.

I know such a book is not likely, given that a new incarnation of the team just recently folded, but stranger things have happened…

  28. Chris: That’s about the only thing that could get me to watch “Joey.” That or lots of monkeys.

Hey, the Simpsons cast is lobbying for raises after 15 years. Do they really want more money, or are they just trying to force a strike so Fox will finally have to let the show die with dignity?

Book Recommendation: “The Book of Bunny Suicides.” http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0452285186/qid=1081704541/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/104-3175594-0735934?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

  29. Matt Groening would not let The Simpsons continue unless he still felr they had something to say.
the show is still brilliant, anyway.
Happy Easter to those who celebrate it, and a good rest of the weekend to those who don’t!

  30. Dreamwave cancelled TMNT. Probly caus eit wasn’t selling. I picked up the first issue, and i wasn’t too impressed with the story. If i’m not mistaken LeSean did the art. I like his style. i just wish he would draw something more serious and “adult”. ANyways, i didn’t buy the later books cause of the story.

I heard that they were considering ways to revive it.

  31. to Jocelyn and Mark:
I also picked up the hardcover version in Canada, but it came with the CD. I think it may depend on the retailer you get the book from; mine was from a store called “McNally Robinsons”.

  32. I think the Simpson’s has made a HUGE comeback in the funny department. it was down a bit (IMHO) for a few years. Actually, i noticed it pick up when Kevin Curran came on board as a producer. For those of you who don’t know, He was a producer for Married With Children when it first started, and when it was still good. The show went to crap when he left. I wouldn’t doubt he’s the reason behind the Simpson’s new found energy.

  33. Recently found, bought, and very much enjoyed a copy of THE GLASS TEAT at a used bookstore. I KNEW Harlan Ellison would dig the Banana Splits, I just knew it.

    Going away now.

  34. characters lacking spark with Claremont???Of course the last time i read a claremont story i was bored to tears .Blah, blah ,blah.”words and deeds i am an xman”Does the guy get paid by the letter or something ???
Anyways for really good stuff try the Atticus Kodiak novels by Greg Rucka or anything by Chuck “fightclub” Palahniuk. Those guys know how to tell a story without overwhelming dialogue.
the writers from 24 and the Shield rock too.
Happy Easter to all and give thoughts and prayers to our troops no matter your religious or political beliefs

i got mine through chapters/indigo/coles. came with the cd.

  36. Yes, TMNT was cancelled. I believe that PAD
somewhere commented that the publishers cut
their portion of the profits a little too thin,
and couldn’t afford to continue to publish.
I think this was in the 25 questions thread over
on one of those news sites.

Isn’t it odd, what with people complaining of
internet theives, that S&S would make it easier
by putting all the NF novels on CD-ROM?
    Must be a trap.

Regarding JLA/Doom Patrol, if you’re not already
aware, the Byrne/Claremont reunion is just a
setup for a new Doom Patrol series to be written/drawn/but not inked by John Byrne,
so it may be awhile before PAD gets a shot at it.
