Self-assembling ‘Nanotubes’ Offer Promise For Future Artificial Joints
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Tiny “nanotubes” that assemble themselves using the same chemistry as DNA could be ideal for creating better artificial joints and other body implants.

Researchers at Purdue University, the University of Alberta and Canada’s National Institute for Nanotechnology have discovered that bone cells called osteoblasts attach better to nanotube-coated titanium than they do to conventional titanium used to make artificial joints.

Sadly, no signs of WKRP, Night Court or Lovejoy.**

No idea about the Night Court or Lovejoy DVD’s, but I did recently read an article on what the main hold-up (or a main hold-up) to the WKRP and Miami Vice DVD’s are — the folks trying to put them together are having a headache trying to get the DVD/VHS music rights to the songs used in both series. So if/when they do come out be prepared to pay more for one of those collections than for that of most TV series, unless you’d rather watch them use generic music in place of the original songs used to keep the prices down.

This occurred to me this morning….

Why are there no athesist extremist terrorists?**

Because the American Atheists Association (or whatever it’s called) doesn’t have that big of a payroll to do that sort of damage to get its point across on a regular basis? 😀

Seriously, I think it’s because social conditions in the Western world (including the areas that were once the Soviet Union), for the most part, are not producing enough nilhist (sp?) people to make turning an airplane into a bomb an attractive option to the average person. I have seen nothing in atheist philosophies that would innoculate a believer against believing in some cause to the point that thinking a suicide run for that cause would be a good idea. All that is needed to get a rabid atheist to pilot a plane into a building is a belief that his/her death will help advance the cause and, in some cases, a desire to have their name live on in infamy. Those can be as potent a lure as the 72 virgins in paradise were to the guys who actually did the deed.

. . . . . who sometimes wonders if God didn’t punish those hijackers by giving them exactly what they wanted — seventy-two women in their lives. Think the ending to that original Star Trek episode where Harry Mudd is confronted by the 500 nagging Stellas. . . . . . >:)

  3. Huh, Elf, sounds like the same reason Episode #4 got left off the Profiler Season 1 set, Sting/the Police wanted too much for the rights to use “Every Breath You Take”. Bah, the rights should’ve been included with the original purchase of the usage in the show…

    Death to copyright

  4. The worst super-hero toy?
    Well…
The two of them seperately are not bad, per se.
But can anyone tell me why the Silver Surfer figure in the current assortment of Marvel based toys (Series Five) is paired up with Howard the Duck?

Well, in the cases of WKRP and Miami Vice the video/DVD market did not exist at that time so the producers (or whoever is in charge of such stuff) can be excused for not thinking about getting those paticular usage rights way back then. The Profiler folks, on the other hand, have no such excuse for not getting the video/DVD songrights settled during the original negotiations, since the possibility of them putting out a boxed season set was always a very real one. Why waste time negotiating later when it could be negotiated now?

  6. Because there was space in the Silver Surfer’s packaging. Seriously. That and a tenuous Defenders connection.

  7. Regarding JLA/Doom Patrol, if you’re not already aware, the Byrne/Claremont reunion is just a setup for a new Doom Patrol series to be written/drawn/but not inked by John Byrne, so it may be awhile before PAD gets a shot at it.

Darn! I thought the appearance of characters that looked suspiciously like Rita, Larry, Cliff and the Chief was just one of those things that comics writers like to do (like the pseudo-DNAgents appearing in Teen Titans and pseudo-Titans appearing in DNAgents, some years ago, or “Hyperion” over at Marvel, etc.)

It was annoying to read what I thought was an imitation Doom Patrol that didn’t talk or act like the real thing, but I was willing to chalk it off as an homage gone astray. But learning this is supposed to be the real DP — well, that’s depressing.

I still think PAD would do a great job on the DP.

(Hmmm. It doesn’t look likely that Peter could write DP for DC any time soon if Byrne is doing the new series. But Marvel is letting Joe Stracynski write Superman (and the rest of JLA) for their Max line, so maybe they’d consider letting Peter write Doom Patrol for them. I’d rather read a good version from DC, but I’m willing to settle for a good Marvel version…)

  8. “One could argue that Flash needs the bike while his body recharges”

Like one of those kenetic watches in reverse?

Hëll, maybe he just uses it to relax. All the speed, none of the effort.

“Marvel is letting Joe Stracynski write Superman (and the rest of JLA) for their Max line”

    O.O WHAAAT?

  9. Sorry. Forgot something.

“Interesting, as I was thinking of live pørņ, not animated.”

    I’d vote Animated, myself.

Anyway, back to the Flash: Maybe the Motorcycle flies? Or it’s a preview of an episode where the Justice League lose their powers and this is Flashe’s way of coping?

I’m suddenly reminded of the Trans Armour Cycle from Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue.

In all fairness, the characterizations that you perceive as being way off are being scribed by Chris Claremont, while the ongoing Doom Patrol series is being written by John Byrne.
