I’m not surprised both my local B&N and Borders are sold out.
None of my local bookstores had it in stock and I wound up ordering it online from Books-A-Million.com and saved 37% which is considerably more than I would have at B&N or Waldenbooks.
I do want to say that I loved this book Peter. I blew through it in three days. While that may not seem very quick to some people I don’t get a lot of time to read and it usually takes me two to three weeks to finish a book. Sometimes longer if it’s not extremely interesting.
My brother was able to get it for me at Strand’s Bookstore in NYC. I plan to start reading it after I read ‘Gods Above’.
Wow…. That’s the first Pocket hardcover since… *glances through books formerly remaindered* 1994 or so to manage that. I’m impressed. Congratulations!
I just want to go on record that the book is great. I’m like Doug Hancock, my reading time is tight, but I squeezed in time to read it because I had to know what happened next. This is what the next TV (series or TV movie) treatment should be. Keep this series going.
Glad to hear you’ve got high sales, PAD. Alas, I haven’t been able to afford Stone and Anvil yet. 🙁
Ðámņëd bills.
And that doesn’t even include the copies that I’ll be getting for Christmas!
It helps that it included so many of the older NF titles on that CD. That was the deciding factor for me (or at least the way I justified spending money I don’t have for something I wanted!)
Guess this is a sold title you don’t mind selling out…
Good deal for you…it’s probably not the kind of book I want to read in hardcover anymore, but I’m glad to see success for it….
Congrats, Peter. Stona & Anvil was a good read. I rather enjoyed the glimpses into Mac and Shelby’s past.

Yes it was a very cool book. Loved the Kebron stuff, especially when he realizes that despite the evidence Janos was the last one he suspected as they hear him ripping apart the Trident from the inside out!
Hooray for you and for the crews of the Trident and Excalibur
That is great news! Congratulations! 🙂
I love the book and am very happy that it was so successful.
Can you already give us a hint what “After the Fall” is about? I know, it is very early days, but I am curious 🙂
Your corner of the Star Trek universe is the only one I can constantly rely on to respect what’s come before while breathing new life into it (as well as new worlds and civilizations).
Everyone I’ve ever turned on to New Frontier agrees with me that Paramount is foolish not to turn the Excal and crew into a TV series but I’m glad they don’t because they’d probably screw it up without you.
That’s really cool. I haven’t even been able to get my copy of “S&A” or No “Limits” yet, due to budget concerns. They’re definately on my shopping list once Christmas is over though.
Peter, I’ve got a question:
You stated that the rights of “Knight Life” and “Sir Apropos” were brought by a german publisher (probably Heyne). Do you know when they will be released?
I don’t want the exact date, but I looked everywhere on the net about these future novels, and they aren’t listed anywhere.
Thanks,
Pascal
Congratulations, Peter. And you’re welcome.
Bob DeGraff: Everyone I’ve ever turned on to New Frontier agrees with me that Paramount is foolish not to turn the Excal and crew into a TV series…
Luigi Novi: No, they’re not foolish, they’re simply unable to do so because the royalties from just one episode that they’d have to pay Peter for using all those characters he created would be enough to put all four of his daughters through college, as he correctly pointed out when I brought up the subject at Midtown Comics a while back.
they’re not foolish, they’re simply unable to do so
‘Coz it ain’t New Frontier on TV if Ashley Judd ain’t in it. ‘Nuff said.
And a PS: I truly mean no offence to the person who mentioned his brother bought the book at NYC’s Strand Bookstore, but don’t forget that if you buy a book there, you’re buying a free review copy a reviewer was sent and sold to the store unread.
In other words, PAD doesn’t and won’t make a dime off the sale of that copy of the book.
I bought the book for my brother for Christmas, but quickly stole the CD before I wrapped it.
I bought No Limits around Halloween, and greatly enjoyed it. The story of Calhoun and Shelby’s honeymoon was not at all what I expected, but I liked it a lot.
Stone and Anvil is on my X-Mas list, so right now I’m resigned to staring wistfully at the copy in the local Waldenbooks. *sigh*
Peter, I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed all your “New Frontier” books since the beginning, and “Stone and Anvil” was just incredible.
The ending led me to wondering about something, though. Given the fates of McHenry and Janos in “Gods Above” and “Stone and Anvil”, had you intended these from the beginning of the series or was it more a case that the stories just worked themselves out that way?
Luigi Novi: No, they’re not foolish, they’re simply unable to do so because the royalties from just one episode that they’d have to pay Peter for using all those characters he created would be enough to put all four of his daughters through college, as he correctly pointed out when I brought up the subject at Midtown Comics a while back.
He can’t agree on a single royalty for the lot or something?? See how much they can afford, what he thinks is reasonable and work from there?
personally, i don’t want to see NF go to TV. Yes, it would probably be very good (if kept to the style of Peter and the characters) but it would destroy the ‘minds-eye’ view that the reader creates when reading the stories and i don’t believe a televised version would be able to pack the punch that the novels have in their storytelling.
For examples of Novels / Comics to TV / Movie disasters, you don’t have to look very far to come up with some real howlers. I love NF just the way it is thankyou

Sorry about that – somehow my works screen got pasted into the thread. don’t ask me how, haven’t got a clue
I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. Finally I ordered it through amazon.ca last week. Good to know my local booksellers aren’t louts! Though I still can’t find the collection of New Frontier short stories. 🙁
Read and loved Stone and Anvil. Only thing was that I found a typo at least in the copy I got: page 280 had Calhoun speaking to himself 3 consecutive lines of dialog. (please pray for the inviso-text to work here, apologies if it doesn’t–no real spoilers, except maybe who the second character is). . . The second person speaking should be Picard. Here’s the exchange I mean: Calhoun ends a line with “starship?”
“I can’t help you with that,” said Calhoun.
The next line involves Calhoun replying and sighing. Just a minor typo, but one I thought should be brought to your attention. Might want to make sure that the error is caught for this next printing, but thanks again for a great read, can’t wait to see what’s in store for the crews next, and look forward to No Limits.
Chris
