  1. So, the Trump led Republican party- in control of the House, the Senate, and the Presidency -is about to lead the country into another government shutdown.
    .
To see Trump’s tweets now, it’s obvious he wants the Democrats to take the blame. But, hey, let’s see where Trump was when he didn’t have to scapegoat his own failings onto someone else.
    .
Trump spoke to “Fox & Friends” in 2013 and was asked who would be fired during a government shutdown.
    .
“Well, if you say who gets fired it always has to be the top. I mean, problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top and the president’s the leader. And he’s got to get everybody in a room and he’s got to lead.”
    .
Trump said that later on down the road, “when they talk about the government shutdown, they’re going to be talking about the president of the United States, who the president was at that time.”
    .
“They’re not going to be talking about who was the head of the House, the head the Senate, who’s running things in Washington,” Trump said. “So I really think the pressure is on the president.”
    .
Bet he’d like those words to poof out of existence ASAP. Or, you know, he could prove himself to be an honorable and honest man who actually means what he says (which we all know he has never been) and fire himself.

Republicans have control of Congress and the White House, but it’s the Democrats who are at fault over them not being able to govern worth šhìŧ.
    .
    Funny how that works.

    1. I’m actually surprised Trump isn’t out there cheering. After all, everything he’s done, everybody he’s hired, has been for the single purpose of treating our government like he does his businesses: an opportunity to bankrupt it for personal profit.
      .
And yet, this morning his attention span, equivalent to that of a 3 year old, is fixated on a party he’s throwing for his ego.

  2. Well, the democrats always blamed the republicans when THEY blocked a spending bill, even when they had full control of the White House and both houses of congress. Why is this any different…

    1. CharlieE – what sets the republicans apart in your mind? Why are they better than the democrats? Its clear that you don’t expect them to hold themselves accountable, or to be less hypocritical than the democrats.

It seems like in your mind the republicans are every bit as corrupt as the democrats – but they are your corrupt politicians. Why don’t you expect more from your leaders?

When the people I voted into office do something stupid I don’t go looking for some excuse that lets them off the hook. It doesn’t cross my mind to say “well the republicans did it first” – because it doesn’t matter. Right and wrong shouldn’t change based on your party affiliation.

    2. CharlieE, bless your heart…

“GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham rips into White House for Trump’s change on immigration deal”
      .
“The Stephen Miller approach to immigration has no viability. Tuesday, the president was in a good place. He was the president of all of us,” Graham told MSNBC on Friday. “He spoke compassionately about immigration, tough on security, wanted bipartisanship. Two days later, there was a major change.”
      .
“I think the change comes about from people like Mr. Miller. Mr. Miller is well known in the Senate for having views that are outside the mainstream,” he added.

      1. In CharlieE’s mind, all GOPers are Perfect Beings and if they’re caught doing something bad, it’s all a setup by those villainous Democrats. And the sun rises because Trump tells it to rise. GTFO. I’m just so sick of these traitors, because Trump tells them to, they love Russia, hate the NFL and think the FBI is full of traitors. If he told them oxygen was bad, they’d stop breathing.

  3. I feel for you and it is pretty much how us remainers feel about Brexit. It is stupid how politicians keep blaming the other side. Our one is ‘the legacy left by the previous Labour/Conservative government.’ A fancy way of saying well they did it too. Sometimes it is very true but it is basically a very childish way of passing the buck rather than actually taking responsibility and dealing with the problem.

  4. What better way to spend the anniversary of Trump’s inauguration than with a government shutdown because the man-child President with the self-proclaimed best brain, best words, and best skills at the art of the deal couldn’t make a deal.

    1. Trump needs to treat this like one of his businesses, quit and get as far away from it (in this case AMERICA) as possible….

  5. Ok, Republicans cause a shutdown because they object to the deficit spending by a run away Democrat administration. Democrats, because they object to an illegal (yes, punny…) immigration policy that a republican administration wishes to discontinue. Nothing to do with a budget, just because we are idiots…

    1. Well, it’s funny that the Republicons only object to deficit spending when a Democratic administration’s involved.
When a GOPer is in the White House, then deficits are perfectly fine and dandy.
Of course, why bother trying to explain anything to you? You can’t even determine the difference between the use of “Democrat” and “Democratic.”
For the record, there’s more to the Democrats’ objection than immigration policy. But you right-wingers don’t care about silly things like “facts” when they don’t serve your purposes.

      1. It’s also funny that the biggest deficits in the last forty-plus years (even the one that Obama inherited from Bush Minor and was making progress toward reducing) have come under hosenose Misadministrations…
        .
And the ONLY President who passed an operating surplus on to his successor {who promptly blew it on off-the-books war to punish the guy who made his daddy look bad} was Bill Clinton.
        .
        Funny, that.

    2. CharlieE: “Ok, Republicans cause a shutdown because they object to the deficit spending by a run away Democrat blah blah blah more talking points conservatives don’t actually believe blah blah blah…”
      .
Save it. Conservatives don’t believe anything they say, and they’ve proved over the last 20 years with support of W Bush, the Tea Party, and Donald Trump. You believe nothing, and you mean less when you spew talking points.

      1. And Liberal believe that, no matter how much damage they do, no matter how many lies they tell, home many women they abuse, it is ok, because the cause they support absolves all blame and…

        Wait, BOTH side say that!!!!!

      2. BUT HER EMAILS!!!

        BENGHAZI!!!!!!

See, CharlieE, we can ‘play’ your childish games, too.

      3. “And Liberal believe that, no matter how much damage they do, no matter how many lies they tell, home many women they abuse, it is ok, because the cause they support absolves all blame and…”
        .
And yet it’s been the left far more often than not cleaning up its own house- especially of late -while the conservatives condemning those figures on the left absolve Trump, Moore, etc of all wrongdoing while actively supporting them.

  6. Okay, since it’s so bad it’s stunned PAD, what say we list all the badness ourselves?

1: Obviously, the government shutting down is always a bad thing. But when it’s shut down despite ONE PARTY controlling the WH, the house, AND the senate… Wow. Of course Trump takes no blame for this. Perish forbid he EVER take responsibility for bad things.

2: The whole Stormy Daniels scandal. Which I won’t discuss because I don’t want mental images of Trump having… Oh god. MENTAL IMAGE SEARING INTO BRAIN! GET IT OUT! GET IT OUT!!!!

3: He doesn’t know what Chain Immigration is or how it actually works. At all.

4: He doesn’t know what the Immigration Lottery is. He literally thinks they pull names out of a hopper or a hat and that’s it.

I’ll stop there. Anybody else feel like adding to what is certainly a long list?

    1. Well, there’s the speech he gave at the March for Life yesterday. I couldn’t believe it when I caught it on Sky News yesterday.

      1. The quote:
        .
“Right now, in a number of states, the laws allow a baby to be born from his or her mother’s womb in the ninth month. It is wrong. It has to change.”
        .
        Like PAD, I can’t even…

      2. Well, given that quote, I actually agree he has something of a point. Clearly, letting him be born in the 9th month was a MASSIVE mistake.

  7. Not that I want to defend him, but is there any possibility that instead of “born”, the quote was “torn”?

    –Ed

  8. Trump took to Twitter early yesterday morning to claim the Democrats want to threaten military pay, funding, death benefits, etc. That same day, Senator Claire McCaskill tried to pass a bill to guarantee military pay and death benefits similar to what was done with bipartisan support during the 2013 shutdown.
    .
    Mitch McConnell’s response? “I object.”
    .
Then Senator Bill Nelson tried to extend government funding for just one day to give bipartisan discussions a chance to bear fruit.
    .
    Mitch McConnell’s response? “I object.”
    .
But it’s the Democrats that are playing games with military pay and benefits.
