Freak Out Friday – January 12, 2018

This could have been such a good week for Trump. Positive things actually happened which he could easily have claimed credit for. He’s good at that, after all. Walmart has announced they are increasing their minimum wages and bonuses. A new poll indicated rising faith in the US economy. He could easily have said, “See! Everything I’m doing is encouraging for our future!” For one dámņëd week he could have had it easy.

Nope.

1) The fans hit the šhìŧ. In a White House meeting on the topic of immigration, he not only rejected a proposal that would have solved the problems of the Dreamers, but he demanded to know why we have to let in anyone in “šhìŧhølë” countries such as Haiti and sections of Africa. Why, he demanded, can’t we get people in from Norway? You know, all those white skinned, blonde people. It was beyond question the most racist thing he’s been quoted as saying since Charlottesville.

There are, of course, several answers with which to respond. The first is that we have a three hundred and five foot statue in New York harbor that declares, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” As a matter of fact, I’m going to take the opportunity here to quote the entire poem, “The New Colossus” by Emma Lazarus.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

The statue has a gøddámņëd name: Mother of Exiles. That is what this country stands for. That is why we help people escaping war, poverty, famine and death. Because it’s what we are supposed to do in this dámņëd country.

Why aren’t we getting people from Norway? Well, according to CNN, “Norway has a rich economy, generous social welfare programs, a highly-rated (and free) education system, and exemplary gender parity practices, to name a few of the benefits.” Last year the United Nations said Norway was the happiest country in the world. Where was the US? Fourteenth. And I very much suspect it’s plummeted since then.

Now Trump could have backtracked. Issued apologies, try to swing focus back to the good news. Nope. He did exactly what you knew he’d do: he claimed he didn’t say it. His assertion was that Democrats made it up. Because above all else–above his ego, above his narcissism–Trump must always be the victim. He never does anything wrong; everyone is out to get him and will lie constantly in order to do so.

The really hilarious thing is that Fox News is actually trying to defend him. This is just locker room talk (again.). It’s what the “forgotten man” says.

He’s not a forgotten man, you áššhølëš. He’s the president of the United Freaking States. He’s supposed to represent in action what the Statue of Liberty represents in standing.

Is it enough to make you sick? If so, let’s hope that you’re not poor and on Medicaid because…

2). Medicaid šhìŧ. For the first time since Medicaid was established fifty years ago, Trump permitted states to start instituting programs which add a condition that you must be working in order to have Medicaid. So basically if you’re poor and unemployed, you would effectively be screwed. Not that that would bother the Ðûmbášš in Chief in the slightest.

3). Wait, which side am I on?. Trump wound up boning his own advisors when, while watching Fox News, they urged him to block the renewal of a security and surveillance bill. Trump immediately tweeted out that the bill should be stopped, without realizing that his own people have been actively lobbying for it to be renewed. Hours later he put up a new tweet that basically reversed the previous one. These days he changes his mind so often that you can get whiplash watching it.

4). The Wall Shìŧ Journal. . To top it off, he gave an extended interview to the Wall Street Journal He not only once again talked about pulling out of NAFTA, but also implied that he’s friends with Kim Jong un. The only possible explanation for this is that there’s another guy named Kim Jong un that Trump was referring to, because I feel reasonably confident in saying that the one we’re all thinking about does NOT consider Trump his pal.

So, to summarize: Trump is a racist. We’ve all known that. This is just further confirmation.

Did he do anything right? No.

  1. Even the Wallmart news would not have helped since hours later they announced that a number of Sam’s Clubs would be closing, many right away.

  2. The WSJ interview? There was this as well. Trump on whether or not North and South Korea talking directly with each other drives a wedge between the US and SK- “And I know more about wedges than any human being that’s ever lived, but I’ll let you know.”
    .
Seriously, what the fûçk is wrong with this áššwìpë? I have never seen a grown man in the public eye so fragile, desperate, and needy to make everyone think he’s the best at everything. He’s like a freaking child in the sandbox who has to be told what a good boy he is every three seconds.
    .
Actually, he’s worse. It’s becoming hard to tell whether or not he’s just a pathological liar or if he’s literally losing his grip on reality. He was in a meeting to discuss basic policy. He looked like the idiot at the table by just going with whatever was said to cover for the fact that he had no idea about the details of what was actually being discussed. His response? He told everyone he did such a great job that reporters sent him letters telling him it was the best meeting they’d ever seen because he handled it so well. Of course, he had to adjust for reality by saying they regretted it since they were then ordered to attack him on the evening news.
    .
The letters (duh) don’t exist anywhere outside of Trump’s addled mind. His timeline for these events would also be impossible. But for Trump and the brainless cult following him, these are now gospel facts.
    .
He’s also now gone on record openly accusing FBI agents of treason. Because, you know, if you’re not kissing his ášš and swearing an oath of loyalty to him, you’re engaged in treason.
    .
Walmart announced raises that were likely already in the pipeline (http://money.cnn.com/2015/02/19/news/companies/walmart-wages/index.html) since they initiated wage increases two years ago. But, dámņ, did they screw over Sam’s Club workers. People were showing up to work only to be told that their location was closing with nearly no advance notice. Hëll, some people reportedly found out when they read it on a piece of paper taped to the door of their locked store.
    .
That poll? Trump trumpeted that poll about the faith in the economy by the American public. What he left off was the same poll says the majority of the people polled credit Obama for their faith in the economy in 2017.
    .
Speaking of Obama, Trump added to his list of over 2,000 documented lies and misleading statements since taking office by using Obama as an excuse to duck out of going to the UK for an embassy opening. Rather than admit that he’s either (A) too tired for the trip and/or (B) afraid of being greeted with huge crowds of people telling him to piss of back to his country, he tweeted out that he doesn’t want to go because of Obama’s horrible deal with getting rid of the old embassy and setting up the new one.
    .
Dipshit apparently couldn’t be bothered to learn the facts. The embassy closing and move was put into motion under W Bush. It was done based on security recommendations. But Trump, knowing that it would earn points with his base, decided that he’d blame the black guy.
    .
Trump and his followers keep bristling whenever it’s pointed out to them that Trump is (and often they themselves are) racist; frequently openly racist. God’s honest truth, I think many of them are simply too stupid to know they’re racists. There’s been such a strong undercurrent of racism and even white nationalism/supremacy in so much of the conservative movement and media over the last couple of decades that they probably view such ideas as the norm and only see racism as full on KKK rallies with burning crosses and someone hanging from a tree.
    .
It doesn’t matter how often you claim you’re not a racist or even if you think you’re not. When you keep saying or doing racist things, there’s really no difference than being openly racist or too dumb to know you’re racists.

  3. This is the week that never ends (or keeps on giving):
    .
Now we hear he’s paying hush money for an affair with a pørņ star.
    .
*AND* he insults Asians (and, really, all immigrants) by asking a Korean-American woman where she’s really from.
    .
Can’t he just drop dead already?

    1. Isn’t everything said in the White House recorded? And a matter of public record?
      .
What? Wherever the f— did you get that idea?
      .
I would have thought Nixon would have made it clear to everyone that the LAST thing that would ever happen again is recording conversations in the White House.

      1. The Nixon Presidency was where I got the idea. It was my understanding that everything said in a Presidential meeting was recorded for posterity. I’m not a moron.

  4. Oh, there’s so much more…

Trump gushing over the sale of an aircraft that doesn’t exist.

The WH issuing a statement that said he DEFINITELY said that about those countries because it would play well with his base.

That humiliating bipartisan meeting where he repeatedly changed positions based on who said what last.

He’s now targeting Salvadorian refugees. Who have nothing to go back to.

Norway, in response to Trump, essentially told him to f**k off.

    1. Trump gushing over the sale of an aircraft that doesn’t exist.

      Wha? I missed that one.

A user comment from Media Matters for America:

      CNN: Trump is a racist
      MSNBC: Trump is a racist
ABC News: Trump is a racist
CBS News: Trump is a racist
Fox News: somebody stole a wristwatch

      1. Also from the Des Moines Register:

Trump criticism dominates Chuck Grassley town meeting in rural Iowa

        Some quotes:

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley faced relentless questioning about President Donald Trump’s fitness for office and his own handling of the investigation into Russian election meddling at a rural town meeting here Friday morning.

Amid a smattering of questions about trucking regulations, homeopathic medicine and pension security, a steady stream of attendees pressed Grassley to defend his handling of the ongoing Russia investigation and to offer his views on Trump’s conduct on the job.

        {snip}

The event, Grassley’s first public town meeting on his annual tour of all 99 Iowa counties, drew about 50 people to the community center in the town of about 1,500, the Harrison County seat.

It was a striking scene, not least because of where it was playing out: in a rural western Iowa county where Republicans outnumber Democrats nearly two-to-one and where Trump carried 65 percent of the vote in 2016.

        {emphasis mine}

  5. *sigh* Trump…..again. I know, this stuff is important. But it feels like all of the nonsense and foolishness Trump emits has eclipsed all the other subjects on this blog. (Seriously, when was the last Peter wrote something about his stories/books on this Blog ?)

And for the record….I’m glad I live in the Netherlands, because Trump is a donkey’s rear end – correction, make that a narcissistic , racist donkey’s rear end – who is ruining what America is supposed to be about.

PS…Just curious, PAD…but have you ever considered writing a New Frontier spin-off about the USS Exeter ? (I know some of them moved to the Excalibur and Trident. But, what can I say, I’m a fan of the Ambassador-class.)

  6. The Walmart news is mostly fake. Not only did they close somewhere between 63-260 stores with no notice (which seems odd after they just talked up that great tax cut) (http://www.mlive.com/business/index.ssf/2018/01/walmart_abruptly_closes_sams_c.html), but you can only get the full $1000 bonus if you’ve worked at Walmart for 20 years! (http://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-cash-bonus-payout-rules-2018-1) Also, the new Walmart $11 minimum wage just happens to match Target’s $11 minimum wage announced a few months ago. Gosh, it’s almost as if they raised wages not because of the tax cut, but because were having trouble getting employees to take less when a competitor now pays more in a tightening labor market.

  7. Hi Mr. David,
I have a question about sending you a comic to get signed, but I don’t see anywhere on the site that I can contact you. Would you possibly email me so I can inquire about it? Thank you!
