Marvel freelancers over the Marvel editors. It was a reasonably close game: We had 900 total pinfall, and they had something like 873. Axel Alonso then informed us we were all fired. He was kidding…I think.
I had the high score with 177, which wasn’t bad considering the disco lighting made it hard for me to see my mark.
PAD

Wow, Peter! Congratulations! Great job!
Thanks. The editors were actually leading for about half the game, and then–aw, you probably don’t want to hear about it.
PAD
No, I really do! And did you meet Paris Hilton, who was also there?
.
PAD
You mean Paris Hilton? Or a demon disguising herself as Paris Hilton?
.
PAD
(sheepishly) Sorry…congrats PAD, on a job well done!
.
And please, tell us how you pulled victory from the jaws of defeat. Especially if it was some underhanded stunt like slipping an opiate in someone’s Ovaltine or blasting an airhorn to break their concentration.
“You mean Paris Hilton? Or a demon disguising herself as Paris Hilton?”
There’s a difference?
BTW, one of the few highlights of that episode… felt like it belonged in the second or third season.
TAC
For a non-Catholic, you have certainly mastered the art of Catholic Guilt, PAD. I oughtta know, I was raised Catholic.
.
Congratulations!
I watched most of the second half of the tournament and part of the first half.
I’ll repeat here what I wrote on my facebook status, Peter didn’t declare victory until it was statistically assured the the team would win… this was even after it was clear he was going to have the highest bowling score of the night.
Interesting things I noted:
Peter uses a sort of a hook shot when he bowls.
Peter was gladly given the spot of team captain for the freelancers and production staff which included this guy whose on-screen nick-name was “Crappy Chris” from the production department… who I had just met earlier that evening, introduced by Dennis Calero.
Not everyone who played was an experienced bowler, but everyone who stuck out the game had a few good frames.
I left when it looked a like a second game was going to be starting, more informal with fewer players. Hope you all had fun. I was just within walking distance of getting home and up the five flights of stairs, so I went with that exercising and money-saving option.
The only person I knew on sight from the editorial staff was Axel Alonso, but we did not chat, though we have chatted on a few previous occasions.
177. Oy, vey, what a sandbagger. 🙂
