Sorry, this time I have to wait for the trade, because sadly my retailer didn’t get any copy of this mini. 🙁
Peter:
I liked it a lot. With the high level of pathos and depression in CAPTAIN MARVEL and FALLEN ANGEL, it was good to be able to just laugh and chuckle.
It was intriguing how you ended the issue. What a cliffhanger!
I definatly enjoyed it. It was a nice story going rather quickly, but still telling a story that you can follow. Less of SpyGuy which was good. Spyguy seemed just around for the spy . I am wondering when there will be a spydog.
Keep up the good work and hopefully there will be a series (tv or ongoing comic book) of Spyboy.
I really enjoyed the issue. My acid test for comedy is “does it make me laugh?”, i.e. laugh out loud rather than just smile. I thought the character interaction was good too, although it’s been a while since I’ve read the previous issues, so my memory has faded a bit on who some of the people are. And I’m certainly looking forward to the next issue, to see how the cliffhanger gets resolved.
It was a good read. I have to say that I’m starting to feel really sorry for Alex’s subconscious. And there were some nice little Easter eggs buried in the story — like the design on the lunchbox.
I’m also finding Pop Mhan’s art much easier to penetrate than I did when the series first started. If I had the issues handy, I’d dig back and find out whether it’s some change he’s made or just a change in my perceptions, but the back issues are buried in a box somewhere in the basement.
I buy too many comics. I try to avoid getting involved with more series, but this one hooked me in from the very first issue. Spy Boy is a lot of fun. The art really fits the style of the story. I hope you and Pop can continue this series for a l;ong time.
So did I like the second issue? Fo’ shizzle!
I liked it. I had forgotten a few little things, like the true identity of Butch’s mom, until this issue. And I have to admit, turning Alex in to the cops was a manoeuver I never expected. Good stuff, looking forward to more.
It made me sad because it reminded me of how much fun the original series was, and then even sadder because so far “Final Exam” has been even better. I like the increase in the use of the subconcious Spyboy (which seems a little more verbose than he had been in the past) and as someone mentioned, Pop’s art has grown in leaps and bounds. And the story, of course, is no slouch either.
Good times, and hopefully we’ll see a new semester after the final, even if there is a long summer break.
I think I have to make another trip to the comic shop this week. Loved the first issue, but somehow managed to miss the second issue last New Comic Book Day (aka Wednesday).
I picked up Final Exam 1&2 on a recommendation from my local shop. The owner knows I pick up most of your books, so he always lets me know when you have something new out(he even held a copy of Negima! for me).
I haven’t read any previous SpyBoy stories, so I’m not familiar with the characters, but it wasn’t hard to follow along. I am enjoying the story so far. The humor and personal turmoil of the characters make the story fun. I got the Prisoner reference, which was neat, but I’m sure there were other things I didn’t pick up on.
I look forward to the final 2 issues.
PAD, I’m convinced your writing has improved since your time on Supergirl, Young Justice, and the original Spyboy. I enjoyed them, but I can tell something has changed since then. I’m upset that Captain Marvel is being cancelled right after such a strong storyline, and it’s too bad that Spyboy is now a mini instead of ongoing. I think this mini is the best Spyboy story I’ve read. I’m looking forward to Madrox and whatever else you have in store for us.
