I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW I WAS NOMINATED

I received a box from Wizard via Fed Ex today. I cracked it open and, much to my surprise, discovered that I’d won the 10th Annual Wizard Fan Award for Favorite One-Shot (Hulk: The End.) Shows how much attention I was paying. I didn’t know I’d won, or even that I was up for it. And it was given out at Chicago, a convention I hadn’t been invited to, but would have gone to if they’d asked.

It’s a really nice award. A statue of a little boy reading a comic book. Much nicer than the old ones.

Thanks to everyone who voted.

  1. And how many pages were you mentioned on again in that Hulk book from Marvel?

Were I you, I’d drive on the Morrison-Rucka expressway and exit at an exclusive DC contact.

They could always get Bendis to write Captain Marvel.

  2. Congratulations, PAD! I didn’t vote. I guess you have to read Wizard in order to know when to vote, but any recognition for your work is always great.

  3. Gratz and I must say that I did send in my little ballot with my vote for you on it.

Since you were not aware of the goings on at the convention I’m wondering if you are aware that Quesada said something about you possibly doing a special Hulk issue or series or some such thing…do you have any idea what he was talking about?

  4. Correction:

What Quesada said was a Hulk Visionaries: Peter David is a possibility, although, “it would be a really big book.”

Do you have any further info on that?

  5. Not a Wizard reader, either… Only thing they do worthwhile is Twisted Toyfare Theater over in Toyfare… That, apparently, and knowing who to put on a ballot. Congrats. More proof that they were fools to ever change Hulk’s direction.

  6. So the new statue, which is “cuter,” is a kid reading a comic book. What was the old statue? Given the character of Wizard, it was probably a fanboy, drool visibly dripping from his grinning mouth, pawing over some poor frightened writer who was vainly trying to retreat.

  7. Congratulations, it was a well done book.

Any chance you will be at the november con in Texas?

  8. Wow, if you think that’s surprising, just wait until you receive the five or six fan awards I just sent you.

    (I’m just kidding, of course).

My understanding is that he said a Hulk: Visionaries collection was “a possibility.” Considering two years ago it was a definite and then got canceled, and then was supposedly going to come out this year but didn’t, it’s interesting to see it’s been downgraded to “a possibility.” Me, I figure it’ll come out right after the reprint of “The End.”

  10. Hulk: The End‘s already been TPBed in Britain (by Panini).

Granted, for some strange unearthly reason they stuck it in with Startling Stories: Banner, but still…

  11. In Germany, Panini recently released a TPB collecting “Future Imperfect” and “The End”.

  12. The End was fantastic. Congrats on your reward Peter. I hope they do a Visionaires series of your work. I’d buy all of em!

  13. Hey Jason P, if you’re still reading this far down:

Thanks for the link to that site. It’s nice to see I’m not alone. I too have been making hardcovers of my PAD comic runs, except I’ve been using my local bookbinding company. Email me if you want, I’d love to discuss our similar projects.

  14. Any chance that trade with Startling Stories (which I read on dotcomics) and The End (which I missed due to my own stupidity) getting shipped Stateside?

  15. In Brazil, Panini “packed” The End with Garth Ennis’ Hulk Smash!

    BTW, congratulations, PAD!
