BUFFY AUCTION

Anyone been checking out the www.buffyauction.com site? A fairly unimpressive assortment of unmemorable set dressing, but already going for staggering prices. Who knew Buffy fans had that much disposable income?

The only items of note are Gile’s briefcase and one of Dru’s dolls. Oh, and that cool Medusa statue that Willow fed power in to attempt to destroy the world (although curiously it’s described as being from season 7 rather than 6). Otherwise, eh. But maybe more nifty stuff will be coming along in the next days. But wow, if even the fairly crappy stuff is going for four figures, I can’t imagine what’ll happen if Spike’s coat, or some stakes, or–God, Sid the dummy–hit the bidding.

NEAT BOWLING TIP

If you’re a right hander faced with trying to pick up a 10 pin, or a left hander trying to get a 7 pin (arguably the toughest single-pin conversions), and you’re having trouble, try this: Don’t aim at the pin, don’t aim at one of the arrows. Instead aim at the REFLECTION of the pin on the lane. I have no idea why this works, but I was taught this a few weeks ago, and I pretty much cover the 7 pin nine times out of ten.

What, did you think I was going to discuss “Angel”?

SPOILERS

While it is one thing to post Spoilers for an episode that has already aired in the US (and notice I keep them out of the initial part of my blog entries so folks in the UK or who have had eps pre-empted don’t have to see them), I’ve given it some thought and am not going to allow deliberate spoilers of shows that haven’t hit the airwaves yet.

At the VERY least, I am requiring that such posts use the “invisible” format which, if anyone is confused, I’m sure Glenn will be happy to post a reminder of how to use it. [Spoiler text can be made invisible by surrounding the text with and and reminders are now above the Post Comment button so you have no excuse– GH] Posts which do not make any endeavor to do anything except wreck upcoming events–such as that put up by “Spoiler Boy” over in the “Angel” thread–I will simply delete, as I’ve done with that particular post on the off-chance there are those who haven’t seen it yet.

Personally, I despise advance spoilers, because they can make any story–no matter how well executed–sound trivial and stupid. As a writer, I find them offensive.

ANGEL RENEWED

Word is out that “Angel” has been renewed. Not only that, but James Marsters will be joining the cast as Spike, while Cordy will be remaining in a sustained coma (i.e., Charisma Carpenter is not expected back.) Which is a shame, but hey…nutty idea…maybe she wants to spend time with her baby. Unfortunately it also means that, for the time being, we’re going to remain unclear on whether she was just a vessel turned evil by the already existing baby, or Cordy went evil while in that other place, or maybe she was never Cordy to begin with, or what.

Interesting notion of having two vampires with souls on “Angel,” presuming that’s still Spike’s status. It means that every single prediction about “the vampire with a soul” suddenly gets called into question since we’re not sure to whom it refers.

THE WEEKEND

Spent the weekend up in Boston attending Shana’s graduation from Berklee College of Music. I was pleased that she was willing to attend, since graduations are usually long (and often boring) affairs that bear no resemblance to the graduation in the movie “Fame.”

Adding some interesting kick to the graduation was that Steven Tyler of “Aerosmith” was given an honory doctorate, and handed out diplomas while official school photographers took pictures. Shana, steeling her nerve, walked up and kissed him on the cheek while the photographer snapped away. Then, overwhelmed by what she’d just done, she rabbited away as Tyler was about to say something to her, so she’ll never know what it was he was going to tell her. The school is supposed to send us pictures of it, at which point we’ll endeavor to get a picture to Tyler.

Sunday was Kathleen’s first mother’s day. We spent it going out to meals and at Babys R Us, picking up a high chair (actually, a booster seat) so we can start Caroline on solid food.
