SNOW JOB

I thought it used to be that winter came in like a lion and went out like a lamb. Lately it seems to be coming in like a lion and going out like another lion, and the lamb is off being shishkabob somewhere. As I write this, snow is coming down hard and steady, and shows no immediate sign of slacking off. Terrific.

At least it’s happening today instead of Thursday, when Julie Schwartz’s memorial service will be happening.

  1. I live in Southern Minnesota and on todays news they talked about how Des Moines Iowa was dumped on by 16inches of snow. Look out Peter!

Oh, and for all of you who think Minnesota is a frozen tundra, it is 40 today with no snow on the ground. Ha.

  2. Well, here, today, I could go out in short slleves. And to think that only two weeks ago, it was freezing.

  3. I wish I could witness that memorial service, hopefully we’ll get some decent coverage of it on the news sites. And here’s hoping Julie’s recent detractors know when to keep their mouths shut.

  4. I hated all the snow and the cold, thats why I moved from Massapequa Long Island to Austin Texas a few years ago, hot weather, hot guys and 25% off all comics at the local comic book stop.

  5. Given Mr. Schwartz’s history with science fiction, it would seem fitting that his funeral service was the occasion for bizarre weather patterns.

  6. I’m not surprised that we all think winter should go out like a lamb.

but did you know it’s different in other parts of the world?

In Norway, for example, March comes in like a polar bear and goes out like a walrus.

Or, take the case of Honduras where March comes in like a lamb and goes out like a salt marsh harvest mouse.

Let’s compare this to the Maldive Islands where March comes in like a wildebeest and goes out like an ant. A tiny, little ant about this big.

*quote lifted from SNL & John Belushi!!

  7. Incorrect old chestnut.
It’s March that is reputed as coming in like a lion and out like a lamb.

  8. Thankfully, I live an hour north of some of the worst snowfall here in Michigan. Also thankfully, I’m flying out to Phoenix for 4 days of 90 degree weather on Thursday.

I bet a lot of you hate me now :lol.

  9. Why should I hate you?

Here in San Diego, it’s sunny, with a predicted high of 74 downtown, now that the marine layer (fog, for those living in less pretentious areas) has burned off…

    🙂

  10. Well, Peter I just came in right now from shoveling the snow, and I’m grateful that it was all pretty lightly packed, and was easy to clear. It’ll be 58 degrees by Saturday according to the 1010WINS website, so this is just winter lashing out with his final breath before spring gets here.

  11. And here in the SF Bay Area, we’re into the end of our first week of setting new high temperature records all over the place in the upper 70s and just touching the 80s.

Supposed to continue the rest of this week too.

  12. It just snowed in the Chicago ‘burbs, right before I go to New Orleans for a week.

    I love vacation timing. 🙂

  13. Ditto. I’m going to Italy April 4th, so even if does snow again, I likely won’t have to worry about it. 🙂

  14. Hey, at least you guys got cold and snow. You know, play weather. We here in VA got cold and rain. Shot my day off. I’ll gladly trade with you.

  15. Dominican Republic, baby! April 3!

(Of course, who KNOWS what’ll be happening on the OTHER side of the island…)

  16. I was just in Vegas last week, where it was 70-80’s each of the days I was there.
I’ts not so bad here in Denver right now though, 50-60’s, with 70’s later this week possible.

It was a year ago now though that we had that wonderful snowstorm here in Colorado. Two feet of snow in Denver alone. Fun. 🙂

  17. Hey, global warming causes this kind of stuff. All the patterns start to flail around, and while the average temp may be a little warmer, you get Canadian weather in Texas every so often. 🙂

  18. Actually, it’s March that comes in like a lion, and out like a lamb. Winter comes and goes how it pleases, it seems. ^_^

  19. Jerry in Richmond: Hey, at least you guys got cold and snow. You know, play weather. We here in VA got cold and rain. Shot my day off. I’ll gladly trade with you.
Luigi Novi: Fine by me, Jerry. After all, you don’t have to SHOVEL rain. 🙂

  20. I live on Long Island, and two weeks ago I was ready to put away the flannel and turtlenecks to whip out the geek t-shirts.

Instead I spent the evening after work hacking the frozen rain and snow off my car so I could get the @#$%^ing door open.

    Sigh.

  21. Here in southwesternish NH, it snowed the other night, (it covered the ground when I got up) and was gone before midday. Yesterday, though, we got a little over a foot and it’s still coming down. I actually love the snow, so I’m not complaining. I also really love the change of seasons. I don’t think I’d last long if it was always hot or always cold.

    Monkeys.

  22. I’ll gladly shovel a little snow anyday of the week. Or even everyday of the week. **Person with screw loose warning** I left St Pete after four years because I missed Fall, Winter and SNOW.
You don’t have to shovel rain? No. You can’t go out, walk around in, play in and enjoy cold/freezing rain either. It looks more dreary too.
    Later

  23. It’s now 40 degrees here, so this snow shouldn’t last. I just hope and pray it’s not snowing or raining at I-Con next week — I love seeing the SCA people slugging it out on the lawn.

  24. I’d love to just walk outside and shovel the rain one of these days. It would instill my neighbors with a healthy fear of me.

I always wanted to be Boo Radley.
