BUFFY AUCTION

Anyone been checking out the www.buffyauction.com site? A fairly unimpressive assortment of unmemorable set dressing, but already going for staggering prices. Who knew Buffy fans had that much disposable income?

The only items of note are Gile’s briefcase and one of Dru’s dolls. Oh, and that cool Medusa statue that Willow fed power in to attempt to destroy the world (although curiously it’s described as being from season 7 rather than 6). Otherwise, eh. But maybe more nifty stuff will be coming along in the next days. But wow, if even the fairly crappy stuff is going for four figures, I can’t imagine what’ll happen if Spike’s coat, or some stakes, or–God, Sid the dummy–hit the bidding.

  2. Y’know, wouldn’t it be weird if each item were cursed because the head of the auction house sold their sold to the devil? And then, a group of people had to hunt down all the items sold though the site to undo the damage done by the curses?

    Nah, that’s a dumb idea . . . no one one ever buy that as a TV show . . .

    And here I am, having never seen that series, thinking, Wow, what a great idea for a TV show! Why does she think it wouldn’t be a…oh. It’s been done.

  4. How about Dawn’s Stun Zapper, used this week on Buffy. Zap your careing friends and family much like Dawn did! Fun!

    Or what about Fred’s Zapper, which she used to Zap Conner at the begining of the 4th season? That sure would be worth more! Plus it has that sentimental touch of having caused Conner severe pain.

  6. My memory may be playing tricks on me, but I seem to recall seeing Sid at Optic Nerve Studios some years back. Because there wasn’t an awful lot of money for creature FX, a lot of stuff also got recycled during the first season. That’s why the demon seen at the end of ‘The Puppet Show’ is a repainted body suit from Castle Freak, and the giant Mantis from ‘Teacher’s Pet’ is a slightly reworked N’Grath from Babylon 5 (both of which Optic Nerve had worked on). I’m sure there are others, but I just can’t remember them at the moment. I’m surprised more of this stuff doesn’t wind up on E-Bay, but foam latex deteriorates over time, and isn’t a very pretty sight after several years.

    Personally, I want Anyanka’s “power center” from “The Wish” and, of course, the VAMPYR book. But I don’t have that much disposable income.

    Don’t you have that backwards? Aren’t pointless, exorbitant collectible purchases made purely to garner personal attention and media publicity made by guys named Todd?

  11. I was amazed at the price on a lot of that. The satchel and Buffy’s attire.. I can see that fetching a lot. But some of that other stuff?

    I was expecting to see a note saying that the money was donated to charity, but I guess it isn’t. When I looked at it earlier today, the stuff was up to $12000 total.

    I was thinking.. Maybe Farscape should have held an auction like this to raise money for the next season. If someone would pay 1k for a phone.. imagine what 1812 is worth. Or some of the other stuff that probably ultimately got thrown in the dumpster… that empty coke can that Browder drank from could have sold for $250.

  13. What was really fun was looking at the site when they first showed the URL in commercial during Buffy. I looked at Giles’ satchel, severely wishing this weren’t a bad month, as $60 or so seemed good for a bid. I then looked again at the end of the show, 20 minutes or so later, saw it up to $300, and realized that this was going to get very expensive, very fast.

    Okay, I should have known that from the get-go, but I didn’t realize that the auction had just started. Curse my broken dreams. 🙂

  14. Okay, *now* some interesting stuff is starting to show up. Sweet’s different colored coats from “Once More, With Feeling.” The coat Angel wore at the tail end of season 3. Those could be kind of cool. Also they’re auctioning an assortment of the action figures owned by the evil trio. The notion of toys owned by fanboys being put up for auction to be purchased by fanboys…there’s a certain ironic symmetry to that.

    Also, notice that a lot of those huge bids are from people with no track record on ebay. I wonder just how reliable they are in terms of being actual buyers.

    I’m trying to figure out what would be cool props that I’d actually want if they went up:

    The “VAMPYRE” book that Giles slams down on the counter in “Welcome to the Hellmouth.”

    The Troll hammer.

    The small wooden box from “Hush.”

    “Mr. Pointy,” as someone else mentioned.

    One of those spider-things the Mayor ate, just so I could stick it to a wall with a knife. Oh…Faith’s knife. Which, if I recall, is actually a Klingon blade.

    That demon statue from the end of season 2. No idea where I’d put it, but boy, it’d be hard to miss.

    The Mummy hand.

    The headstone that reads “She Saved the World A Lot.”

    The waitress nametag that says “Anne.”

    That “very Juice Newton” coat that Joyce wore in “Band Candy” (for Kathleen, of course.)

  15. I checked out the action figures, and the most popular one.. a Mr.. Fett? was left out.

    If I had more than $20 to spare, I’d maybe make a bid or two… but with that much cash, I’d be lucky if I could afford one of the nails that they used in building the set 🙁

    I just realized, though, that for the price of some of that stuff, I could get a top-of-the-line 36″ Sony Trinitron TV… and a 27″ Trinitron for my bedroom. @_@ Madness

    The TV show prop that I really want to own is the snow globe with St. Eligius inside it, from the final scene of “St. Elsewhere.”

    And I’d like to display it in the “Twin Peaks” Red Room, with the “2001” monolith in the corner…

  19. Me? I’d want Mr. Gordo. And the mask that Joyce bought that raised the dead (or did they destroy that – memory fails me). Ooh, and Ethan Rayne’s statue of Janus. And the cheerleading trophy. Also, a copy of the Sunnydale 1999 Yearbook, preferably cooked slightly.

  20. Man when i went to the Posting Board Party back in season 3 they did a silent auction and I picked up two of the latex masks used on the show one was the Balthazar (the big hot tub demon and one of the sisterhood of Jhe from the Zeppo, maybe I should consider selling them.)

  23. what I really would love are the pictures from Willow & Tara’s room from season 6 (actually some of them moved along from season 4 through 5 and then through 6)

    but I don’t think they are on auction 🙁

They should so auction of Spike’s duster, the one that belonged to Nikki originally… that would go for so much money.I think some of the more notable outfits would be cool to have- the uniform from double meat palace.. I would definetly buy one of those black shirts that spike always wears, maybe Buffy/ Cordy’s Homecoming/ Prom dresses.. those would be cool.

  27. I’ve been inspired in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I’m only 13 turning 14 and a foster child I wish I could have something of her’s because I’ve alway’s wanted to have something of the show. I might not but it’s a shot. If I do I’m really thankful for a appriciation. And someone would be nice enough. THANK YOU,

  28. SIGH The item i would LOVE to get is any one of those huge leather bound

    books. So COOL for a book person who loved the show!
