  1. Hope you guys have a great time. Funnily enough, I just came across a Londo head hidden in the bottom of a dresser drawer. It was one of the rejected heads made by Optic Nerve for the Londo doll seen on the Babylon 5 merchandise stand. Talk about a small world- no pun intended.

  2. Have fun! Also, is “Pulling Stakes” out in book form now? I would love to buy it!

  3. So, Peter won’t be at the Babylon 5 Twentieth Anniversary Reunion on Saturday!?

Man, I wish I could be there! I don’t travel much these days. I’d really have loved to’ve been at the “A Day in the Strife” panel!

For those who don’t remember me, I was on GEnie™ way back in the day when both PAD and JMS were active participants in the SFRT, which later spawned the Comics RT of which I was for awhile an Assistant SysOp.

If Peter does plan on dropping in on the reunion, I have an idea for something that should give a chuckle to JMS and the actors Peter Jurasik and Jerry Doyle (both of whom should also be there), and maybe the others as well.

First, to remind you of the relevant backstory from B5:

You know how Londo’s hobby was researching songs that cultures including “old Earth culture” used to teach basic concepts to their children? As in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr8tOa_En7A

Garibaldi, of course, had a different hobby: his “second most favorite thing in the Universe.” I couldn’t find a clip of when he refers to that directly in a conversation with Delenn, but there’s also this which is relevant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im29S6ZWRDI

Final piece of backstory setup is the nature of the Centauri reproductive organs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e–3WZYEEhk

I couldn’t find a clip of it, but see also Vir’s asking for Ivanova’s advice in “Sic Transit Vir”:

Vir: There were other women, but I never got past “one.”

    Ivanova: You mean first base?

Vir: No, no, I mean one. You see we have six— uh — We have six, you see and each one is a different level of intimacy and pleasure, so first you have one, that’s — na-naa, and there is two, and by the time you get to five it’s like—

Ivanova: Vir, I got it, I got it, I got it. Uh, um, I really don’t know what to tell you Vir. I mean, I never really got this relationship thing down myself, so I am the last person in the world who should be giving out advice on this sort of thing—. All I can say is that enthusiasm, sincerity, genuine compassion, and humor can carry you through any — lack of prior experience with — high numerical value.

Vir: Wow. I’m going to remember that. Thank you, thank you!

    Ivanova [sighs]: “Six”!?

With all that in mind, imagine this scenario playing out some time when Londo was still on reasonably good terms with Garibaldi, and assuming Garibaldi had known that little secret of the Centauri.

Garibaldi confronts Londo in the Green Sector corridor near Londo’s quarters, and asks for a moment of his time. Londo claims to be busy, but reluctantly agrees for his “good, good friend Meester Garibaldi.” Garibaldi assures Londo that he will find this quite intriguing.

“I know about your hobby, Londo. You know, with songs that humans taught their children. Well, in my own hobby, I came across something I think will help you in yours.”

Garibaldi then holds up a data crystal, and an audio-only crystal player device. He inserts the crystal into the player, and before starting it, says, “This is indeed an old song that my people used to use to teach certain, er, uhm. ‘basic concepts’ to their young children. Unfortunately, while there was instructional video that went along with it, that’s been lost over the centuries, and much of the song has been as well. I was only able to recover this first bit, and I’d really like your opinion of it.”

He then presses the “Play” button on the crystal player, and the audio only of just the first four verses of the following clip plays (stop at 0:48 seconds in):

    ;-D

  4. Please consider arranging for someone to record “For a Lord of Time” if possible. I know there are one or two videos out there already, but this one deserves some special love for presevation!

    1. Really wanted to see the puppet slam last night, but when they cleared the room, and made us wait outside, and then we waited, and waited, and waited…

We had gotten up that morning at 6AM and driven four hours to the con, and we were beat. We finally just left and went back to our hotel room. Hope it went well!

  5. Saw Peter in the panel, but missed you at the Puppet Slam. We were there early, but when they shoo’d us all outside while you were setting up, and we waited, and waited, and waited, well, Pamela and I had gotten up at 6AM that morning and driven in, and we were beat. We gave up and went back to the hotel…

Saw Peter at the table on Saturday, and bought Caroline’s picture of Rainbow Dash. We make the Rainbow Color Reader, so we are suckers for anything rainbow! 😉 Sorry to have missed you, though.

  6. Ok, forgot my earlier reply, and it didn’t show up when I first went to this page. Sorry for the repetition…
