Written by Peter David, who co-created it with Pocket Book’s editor, John
Ordover.
It combines the best of TOS and TNG-era Treks. It has drama, tragedy,
comedy, action and consequences–not to mention story arcs, space battles,
*alien* aliens, births, deaths, promotions on and off ship, weddings and it
even shows what the “night” shift does when the “day” sleeps, not to mention
even show MULTIPLE Starfleet ships dealing with situation, and kids who are
kids, who act like kids, not micro-adults.
Oh yeah, it has STORIES and CHARACTERS with PLOTS and THEMES (some might
even make a credible case for MORALS or at least LESSONS learned, but I
digress).
Plus Peter has the track record of actually writing for television (and even
movies), so it’s not like he couldn’t adapt his stories for tv–not to
mention write new ones.
Paramount has an embarrasment of riches just lying around waiting to be
used. All Paramount has to do is . . . engage.
