Don Be Gone

I’m making a rare non-Friday commentary on Trump.

Trump is comparing Robert Mueller to Joe McCarthy. That reminded me that a major program was started in March of 1954 by a Wisconsin newspaper editor called “Joe Must Go.” The drive of the program was to recall the Communism hating Senator. Although it didn’t quite succeed on its own, it was one of the factors that led to McCarthy being censured and losing all his influence. It’s worth noting that the news was also responsible when Edward R. Murrow did several pieces on him that shredded his support. Why else do you think Trump has been obsessed with convincing the public the news can’t be trusted? Historically the free press helps deter destructive influences in the government. Trump figured that if he could find a way to invalidate belief in the press, he would remove a major enemy in his path. He doesn’t really believe the press is fake. He just wants his followers to believe it.

So this is what we need to begin: Don Be Gone. A national movement to get rid of him. I’m not entirely sure how we go about it, but we have to start something with that sort of very specific focus.

Don Be Gone.

Get it out there.

  1. The first step is to regain Democratic Control of at least one House of Congress in November. The GOP led Congress is, at best, totally abrogating their responsibility to provide oversight to Trump’s blatant corruption and that of his underlings. A good number of them are willing participants. Step one is for either the House or the Senate to turn blue (preferably both). There would then be committee chairmen with subpoena power and (hopefully) the willingness to use it.

    1. There willingness to use it will be directly proportional to our insistence they use it. Lacking that, the Dems will likely fall into their typical pattern of balking at calling Republicans on their šhìŧ or holding them accountable for it.

  2. Maybe we could get Aperture Science to send Trump a loving note from a G. Lados. She thinks he’s doing a great job and, if he ever stops by, they’ll make him a delicious cake.

If nothing else, it’d be hilarious if someone tricked him into saying they’re doing a good job making science.

  3. And to think Trump learned everything he knows from the brains behind McCarthy – Roy Cohn.

  4. I sure will put it out there…….. we need to stop the train wreck of Brett Kavanaugh, especially.

    1. To work, this needs as many different groups as possible, working towards a shared goal. “Don Be Gone” *and* MM’s TPP *and* countless others, as long as they don’t get fooled into attacking each other as so often happens, just reinforce each other, *and* offer alternatives, such as for people who might have been swayed by all the smear campaigns against MM and such.
