The United Nations put forward a resolution condemning all countries that want to execute people for the crime of being gays.
Thirteen countries voted against it. Thirteen countries basically said they supported the notion of countries killing people because of who they fall in love with.
What countries voted against that idea? Botswana, Burundi, Egypt, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, China, India, Iraq, Japan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates…
And us. The United States refused to condemn countries executing gays.
What possible reason could we have for doing that? A U.N. rep stated that it was because they felt the resolution was too broad, sweepingly stating that capital punishment should be eliminated altogether. Heaven forbid we shouldn’t throw gays under the bus in order to cling to the notion that killing prisoners isn’t wrong.
Fortunately the resolution passed anyway. Without our help. Don’t worry: the world is getting accustomed to doing things without our help.

he said so.
my Brother insisted he would fight for me if tRump went back on his word. (yeah, been a whole lot of silence, and I don’t have much to do with my Brother these days).
waiting for this administration to come after my Marriage, as I’m sure that’s coming. 🙁
Sad but not surprising.
And people still wonder why I as an openly and proudly Queer woman do not celebrate the Fourth of July or the other “patriotic” rituals of a nation that denies my humanity.
Why wouldn’t this administration take that stance? This is the same administration that is supported by people who think gays are defects. This is the same administration that thinks and is supported by people who think that gays should be subject to legal discrimination in the US.
.
Is it really all that surprising when looking at the base that voted for the present government we have and the people they elected that our present leadership would see no issue with such a move?
This is the Misadministration that’s getting set to welcome Roy Moore to Congress.
Curious that Japan also voted against it, and perhaps that China and India did as well. That tells me that there is a bit more to it than what’s on the surface in this post, but I don’t know what.
They voted against because they all have capital punishment. The same reason the US voted against. Peter mentions that in the penultimate paragraph.
