My daughter Shana was interested in introducing one of her classes of kids to the world of comics. I recommended the original POWER PACK and she acquired the first trade paperback by Louise Simonson that came out in 2009.
She is reading it to her class and they love it. She decided that she’d love to get extra copies of the book for all the kids in her class, which would be thirty copies. But I just checked through my local comic store and they ran it through Diamond, and Diamond isn’t carrying it. Which makes me assume they’re out of print.
So it comes down to this: This is a school and a class and I’m looking for donations. If you have a copy of the first trade paperback and want to donate it, please send it to:

Thanks!

Amazon seems to have all three volumes in stock. Alternatively if going through a comics store is paramount, a more modern book skewed towards children (not sure how old) like Adventure Time or My Little Pony might be worth looking at.
Yes, Amazon has six copies of volume one. Not thirty. Nor will they, I assume, donate it.

Sorry, I thought even a little trickle might help. No need to be a dìçk about it. I assumed your local comics store also wouldn’t be donating the copies.
True, but they would have given me a very significant discount.
Diamond has Power Pack Classic Vol. 1 (and 2 & 3) in stock right now. I just placed a reorder for 500 copies (using item code APR090599) and it would have filled 100% if I hadn’t immediately cancelled it.
Have your LCS try again with that code. If they still say they can’t get it, switch shops.
You’re absolutely right. I called the store back and they checked again and, lo and behold, they were there. So we’re handling it.
Thanks for checking!

You’re welcome! Anytime you need a similar search done, just drop me a line!
I don’t know about the paperback, but I may still have the first ten issues. Would they help?
This does my comics-reading heart a world of good–Power Pack v.1 was a cornerstone of my reading list. If only Marvel/Disney could see the potential in bringing Power Pack to the big or small screen….
So, after the help Brian Jacoby has provided, are donations still in need? I’m due to pick up my pulls tomorrow, and I would be happy to scoop up a couple copies of the trade if my FLCS has them on hand, knowing that they would be placed in the hands of kids who would appreciate them.
There was a live-action Power Pack pilot done by, I believe, the Canadian production company Nelvanna. It was — okay.
More recently, the “Support Your Local Sky-Father” episode of the lighthearted Super Hero Squad animated series intended to introduce younger kids to Marvel superheroes had a brief cameo of the Power Pack siblings, plus Franklin Richards and other super-powered pre-teens of the Marvel Universe. They’re the kids that Thor is addressing when introducing the new super-safe playground with bubble-wrapped playground equipment), just before Hercules shows up to challenge him, at which point Thor shoos all the kids home. None had any speaking lines — they just stood there. For some strange reason, Katie was noticeably taller than Julie.
I stopped reading most comics a few years ago (the New 52 and such were pretty much the last straw), but I recently heard that Marvel has had the Power kids grown up enough that Julie is now a late teenager and is bisexual.
Ummm – eewwww?
{Not that bisexuality in and of itself is “eewww” – just that this sounds like another “Gay Rawhide Kid” move…}
Alex is part of th Future Foundation in the Fantastic Four related titles, while the older Julie first appeared in the Loners limited series and then in the second half of Avengers Academy where her sexuality was discussed. Last I read she was dating Karolina Dean from the Runaways.
COMALiteJ, I have a several-duplicate-generations-removed VHS containing the Power Pack pilot….I agree with the “okay” sentiment. I was just lamenting that Power Pack has appeared a few times on a list of Marvel properties “under consideration” since the Disney acquisition, and nothing has manifested (to my knowledge) beyond that Hollywoodspeak description. In my opinion, if a creative team can be assembled that would treat the Pack in TV or film with the same loving care that Weezie and Brigman or the Bogdanoves and Barta brought to the characters, Marvel and Disney would have a blockbuster franchise on their hands. But that’s just me….
And personally, I’m not worried about Julie’s sexuality (which, from what I’ve seen, has been handled well and without making it the sole focus of her character)–I’m worried about current events in FF (the Future Foundation book) depicting the Pack’s parents as being held hostage by Doctor Doom, with nary a mention about where the hëll Jack and Katie are, and who’s taking care of them, and the fact that not even Alex, whom Doom is coercing using his captive parents, seems to give a dámņ about that question.
For those who are interested, InStockTrades is selling that volume at 45% off. I just ordered four copies for Shana.
