A pretty quiet 4th this year

Kath and Caroline will be in Italy vacationing with Kath’s folks until Sunday. So basically here’s my line-up for things to do today: The Mets vs. the Phillies. Then at 5 PM they’re running “1776” on TCM. Then there’s the Capital 4th celebration on PBS. All that time I’ll also be writing. So my day will be productive, entertaining and also sadly quiet.

Happy 4th to everyone else, and nobody blow off any parts of their bodies with firecrackers.

  1. Absolutely. If you’re going to blow off parts of your body don’t use something passe like firecrackers. Be creative. Innovate.

    (Even better, be safe.)

Happy Independence Day, Peter, family, and extended online family. (And those who aren’t Americans, please indulge our little party.)

  2. We have 1776 on our DVR, so we are watching it right now (well, we are paused because her Mom called…) Some hamburgers in a bit, and then get together with some friends to go swimming and have a little dinner.

    Happy Fourth to all!

    1. We are in Pienza in Tuscany until tomorrow then we go to Rome for the day and then home on Sunday. We have been to Frienza and saw the Dumo baptistery for the first time.

      1. Ah, I don’t think I’ve ever been to Tuscany. And I haven’t been to Rome since I was 10 (Geez, has it been almost 30 years?)

If you meant Florence, I think you mean to say Firenze (it’s spelled the same way as the main centaur in Harry Potter) and Il Duomo. S’okay, though, I understood you. Florence is quite beautiful.

        Enjoy your trip!

  3. Happy 4th, all! I’m also taking it easy: Nothing like spending 4 hours pushing shopping cards in 100 degree weather to make one feel like staying in. Fortunately, there’s the TWILIGHT ZONE marathon and MODERN FAMILY. Woot!

  4. Despite being mexican, I will honor the 4th of July by dining burgers and (mexican style) hot dogs. Maybe a coke too.

    1. And we’ll return the compliment by getting drunk to celebrate the Battle of Puebla while ignoring September 16.

(Hoping this is received in the comradely jovial manner it is intended.)

      1. Oh, yeah, anything is better than Corona; I myself favor Indio and Victoria; but given that 5 de Mayo is a very minor holiday here, any real celebration done that day is solely to echo foreign sentiment, and so Corona seems fitting that one day. With one stupid lime wedge, too.

  5. I worked today. Working a holiday at the USPS means double pay. For one, when I got home, my two cats did NOT rush the door to go outside. I let the older of the two pop his head out long enough to hear what it was like and he immediately reversed course.

Meant to record some stuff tonight (A Capitol Fourth, Stars and Stripes Forever — I already have Yankee Doodle Dandy pretty well memorized — anyone ever see Bob Hope’s original version of The Seven Little Foys where Cagney makes a cameo as George M. Cohen?), but forgot. Hopefully, I’ll be here to see everything next year.

And on Monday, I finally got around to seeing Air Force One for the first time. Not bad, but only a Hollywood president would do what Harrison Ford was doing in it.)

Whoops. BIG bang just came from outside, leading my cats to practice their teleportation. (What, you didn’t know cats could to that?) Better go to try and calm them.

  6. Happy 4th of July!

I’ve just seen that Havok is going to be on the new Uncanny Avengers team! Hope this doesn’t mean he’ll be leaving X-Factor (I haven’t even caught up to where he joins yet!)
