My Schedule for NY Comic Con

As always, I know that posting my schedule is not going to stop people from saying, “Where were you?!  I never found you!”  Yet here I do it anyway.

  1. PAD,

I have kind of a stupid question.
With the recent announcement from DC that they are going back tot he $2.99 price point (and the subsequent announcement from Marvel that they will also be backing off the higher priced comics), I’m curious how that impacts creators such as yourself.
I know long-term it means fewer direct dollars —- but in terms of current titles, does it really impact you (by that I mean that I’m curious whether a company’s decision to price something you’ve written under a current contract is affected one way or another by whatever price point they put on it). Is that page rate return already set insomuch as it doesn’t matter (royalties aside) how much the publisher charges for it?
And the second part of that question — given that you’ve been working for multiple publishers (Marvel and IDW most recently) who do have different price points, and given your background in sales, what is your ‘general’ view of comic prices in relation to the different publishers?
[I guess my question really comes down to — is your page rate all that different between publishers in a general sense or do you alter it based on your expectation of return due to market penetration?]

  2. I bet the NY Comic Con will be a blast. I’m glad I got the chance to get autographs from you and Claudio in San Diego, even if I did have a total “omg I am talking to a celebrity and now I can’t remember what I’m doing and I’m going to walk away from the table and forget my books that are being signed” moment.

Thanks for the tip on the Apropos graphic novel when I saw you in San Diego – I bought it as soon as we got home. Loved it!
