Random Thought for the Day

They should get sponsors for the State of the Union to help pay down the deficit.

“The State of the Union…brought to you by Veridian Dynamics. We don’t care…so that you have to.”

  1. Veridian Dynamics, the perfect company for the US government. I bet they would have thrived in the last decade.

  2. If only real corporations were so honest about their inhumanity… I rather be simply trampled over that trampled over and blatantly lied to. I could actually love a company as candidly evil as VD.

Better of Ted is a brilliant show.

By the way…. does anyone remember that apisode where the company changes every device in the building to motion sensor activated, and the sensors dont recognice black people? Seems some new HP webcams came out with the same problem.

    1. Seems some new HP webcams came out with the same problem.
      .
HP isn’t alone in that regard; it’s a general problem with facial recognition software in cameras, too. It’s simply that not enough light presents a problem for the software because they tend to rely on shadows to track movement. The same problem would occur with too much lighting and really light-skinned people as well.

  3. Hey! As the Supreme Court just ruled in the face of 200 years of established law,
    “Corporations are people too.”

  4. Hmmm. Not a bad idea.

How about also requiring members of Congress to wear NASCAR-like outfits festooned with the sponsorship patches of all of the special interest groups they support. That would be enlightening to John and Jane Taxpayer, don’t you think?

  5. I think that in order for a politician to accept a contribution from a corporation, they should have to abstain from any voting that affects that corporation.
    .
So, if they accept a contribution from the coal industry, they can’t vote on energy reform. If they accept a contribution from the health care industry, they can’t vote on anything regarding health care.
    .
Which means, corporations will stop supporting candidates that only vote the way they want, and will have to support candidates that agree with policies that do not directly affect their bottom line.
    .
For example, McDonald’s supports gay rights. They could give contributions to candidates who also support gay rights because that is not an issue that directly affects their bottom line.
    .
I would call it The Conflict of Interest Bill. And, it would never pass. Because politicans like getting paid for their votes, and companies would pay to keep such a bill from passing.

    1. Sorry, it took me two seconds to figure out how to get past this.
      .
“Hey, is this the CEO of Wal-Mart?”
      .
“Yes, it is. Who is this?”
      .
“I’m the CEO of ExxonMobil. I got an offer for you. I’ll put all my money behind anti-union and anti-importing laws, and you put all your money behind increased oil taxes.”
      .
      “Sounds like a plan!”
      .
Simpler solution: no restrictions on donations, but almost instant disclosure and HUGE penalties for hiding contributions.
      .
P.J. O’Rourke said it best: when politicians starts regulating buying and selling, the first things bought and sold will be politicians.
      .
They’re going to be bought and sold anyway. Under my solution, voters can know beforehand who’s buying them, and how much.
      .
And I’ve said for years that candidates should have to wear NASCAR-style jackets with the names and logos of their ten biggest donors.
      .
      J.

  6. I was very upset about the case when I first heard, but this is really nothing new. The corporations will just be able to be more blatant about affecting elections. They have had to be creative in throwing money where they want to get what they want until now. The money will be in a more direct line now, but nothing will really change, other than the fact that precedence means nothing to the right wing Supreme Court.

You know, if that type of silliness were still allowed in DC Comics, that would be a great direction to take the concept of Villiany, Inc.
