Stash Wednesday Now on Thursday This week

Because we didn’t have a Wednesday due to our travel to Australia and crossing the International Dateline.

So what did you get and what is coming out in the future that has your interest?

  1. I haven’t picked up my new comics yet (will later today).

I plan to get the new Incredible Hercules for sure. That series has be VERY good. I highly recommand it to everyone. Excellent writing & art.

I also want to check out a new series called The Anchor. The artwork is a bit Kirby-ish and the story sounds interesting.

I may or may not pick up Web of Spiderman #1 & Spiderman: 1602 #1.

As for the future, I want to continue collecting Herc, Ultimate Spiderman, and Ultimate Avengers if I can. I also hope that DC does more Wednesday Comics. I really miss getting those!

  2. Hercules, as always, made me laugh merrily. Hercules is just such a great character. Like a drunken, party-animal uncle who refuses to completely grow up because he’s so very comfortable with who and what he is, but has his own internal maturity and dignity within that paradigm. Consistently great stuff.

The Authority finally seems to be getting good again, and I’m glad I’ve stuck by it. I realized what it is; what’s been wrong. The characters don’t WORK as underdogs, and that’s what they’ve been for the last year. They’re starting to kick ášš again, and that’s always been the point of the team.

And Deadpool #900 had Joe Kelly’s return to the character which he defined and made great, which was a profound pleasure to read. What I wouldn’t give to see him do a stint on one of the ongoing Deadpool books.

  3. Adventure Comics 3 made me angry. Because DC is pulling Johns and Manapaul off this book in three months. I would much rather see them continue with the charming, refreshing take on Superboy than do anything else. And once they leave the book, so do Superboy. Why did DC bring him back if they can’t stick with a long term plan?

Red Robin 5 was also really good. This continues to be the surprise of the year for me.

The latest issue of Fables was a little scattershot, but each thread of the larger story was quite gripping.

Also picked up the new Secret Six TPB. I enjoyed it, but I can’t see why it’s getting such strong raves. The plot let a bit to be desired, and as well written as the characters are, I just can’t say I care much about them.

  4. Behind in my picking up and reading but yesterday did get to my shop and picked up Fallen Angel 4 and Star Trek: Spock Reflections 3 and 4

should get the next Star Trek: Nero next week.

    Will read them tonight.

  5. (Sorry – off topic – but new comics haven’t arrived yet.)
    .
Hi Kathleen. Last July you gave us the annual “ask the wife” thread. I asked what countries you’d like to visit and you answered, “Australia”.
    .
And now you’re here! How cool is that! Welcome, and have a great stay – even if you are on the wrong side 😉

  6. Haven’t picked up my comics yet, but I thought I’d list what I am buying at the moment:

    X-Men Forever: Logan’s dead, Kitty’s alive – I can live with that.
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep: I appreciate the effort going into this adaptation of one of my favorite books.
The Incredibles: With Disney’s recent purchase of Marvel, these guys could do a crossover with the 616 that would actually make something approaching sense. As it stands, this comic rocks!
Fantastic Four: Always my favorite characters, and after the underwhelming Millar/Finch run I’m glad to see them done so well. Not to mention being separated from the current state of affairs in other Marvel books.
    Dominic Fortune: Pure fun.
    RASL: Jeff Smith is amazing.

I’m also looking forward to Shanhower and Young’s Marvelous Land of Oz.

  7. Didn’t pick anything up, but just wanted to say welcome to my side of the world! Hope you have a great time in Oz.

  8. Not much for me this week, just Uncanny & Forever and I haven’t read Forever yet.

Uncanny was decent, but the writing of Professor X was incredibly obnoxious.

Did Fraction forget about all the work Mike Carey put into Professor X, or just ignore it? I can see his psychic assault on Magneto coming out of that *a little* BUT the douchey way he was acting and all the references to his history with Magneto just rang incredibly false. I mean, Carey actually made the guy interesting for 2-3 years… now he’s back to just being annoying.

Plus. Magneto took his helmet off. Prof could just read his mind – no need to rant about “tricks” and give him a little brain-punch. Just read his dámņ brain instead of punching it!

    /end mini-rant.

  9. I just got my load of books

    xmen
    blackest night
    Batman
    punisher 75
    marvels

but what i am really psyched about is my new Kindle

I key in Peter David and hit search

27 pages of ready to download books

    159 items

i know that # 20 David Belasco – The Return of Peter Grimm

    is not PAD

but maybe this is misplaced but with the kindle 2 now wireless and 259

I would love to hear PAD thoughts on it and his take on the store

    Maybe a separate thread.
    Thanks

  10. I haven’t read half the comics I bought last week, and another week is already upon us.
    .
I have spent all my reading time in the last week on Peter & Max, the new Fables novel by Bill Willingham. Enjoying it very much. The first chapter informs the reader about the various things that have happened in the Fables universe in the past, setting the path for the novel. A great idea.

  11. I got Hercules and Web of Spiderman today!

Herc was very good and I haven’t read all of Web of Spiderman yet. It looks good.

I tried to get the Anchor #1, but my comic book store didn’t have it and had never heard of it. 🙁
Comic book guy said he’d look into it though…

  12. I buy comic books on Saturdays, and not every week. This past Saturday I bought New Mutants, but nothing else that was new. I wanted to get the third issue of Marvel Divas– it hasn’t been that great, but I already have the first two and I would like to know what happens– but they said it was already sold out. I didn’t think it was popular enough to sell out, but maybe they just didn’t have very many copies. I looked for it at the regular bookstore, which is the only other place in the area that has comic-books, but they didn’t have it. Sometimes they get stuff a week or two later, though, so I’m hoping it will be there next time. (That was where I bought #2.) But I probably won’t even get a chance to go to town for another week or so.
I have subscriptions (yes, they still exist!) for Amazing Spider-Man and New Avengers, but I always seem to get them a couple weeks after they appear in the stores. That’s not right. Subscriptions are supposed to come early.

Wow. A week with no Wednesday. That sounds kind of spooky. Has Peter come up with any story ideas using that, yet?

  13. I picked up Deadpool #900, Uncanny X-Men #516, and Chronicles of Wormwood #1. Deadpool was pretty good there were some stories I didn’t quite like (the first one about the alien), but I loved the story where Deadpool is in a hotel room and sort of pnders life. Fraction is definitely hitting his stride in #516, plus Magneto is always awesome. Chronicles of Wormwood was awesome. Garth Ennis stories are just addicting, I loved his Hellblazer run and for some reason COW reminds me of that.
