  1. Well, a couple of Blackest Night books (Green Lantern & Blackest Night: Titans), JSA, JLA 80-page giant, Futurama, Mickey Mouse & Friends, Usagi Yojimbo, New Mutants, Gotham City Sirens, Wonder Woman and a pair of books by a little-known writer named, um, (hold up–gotta double check the spelling)
    .
here we go, Peter David. He seems to have a decent grasp of storytelling (especially on that Dark Tower book–does it have any connection with the Stephen King books?)*.

    .
Also, picked up the Power & Glory tpb and the Fables Vol 1 HC.

*Seriously, PAD, just having a little fun here. The little “heart to heart” between Rictor and Guido was funny and I’m not sure if you intended the attempted suicide to be quite so funny, but I found myself laughing at the whole bit.

  2. I got KNIGHTS OF THE DINNER TABLE #154. This issue had two quite opposite stories: Many of the regulars on the road to GaryCon, and Brian, Dave, and Bob *not* with them after they got trapped in Brian’s basement. Not a classic one, but plenty of laughs! (And another “Lynch Report” written by this Jim Lynch guy…)

    1. So is it out on the stands or are you getting it a week before I can?

      1. KODT hit the stands. Much as I’d love to say I get special favors for my near-monthly writings, I have to pick it up the same as anyone else. Sadly, I can’t get it on the Island — Grasshopper’s said when they carried it lots of people read it but few actually bought it — so I trek into Jim Hanley’s Universe. (You can also order it through http://www.kenzerco.com , but I did that once and it took quite a while.)

As for when it comes out, I check the Midtown Comics homepage http://www.midtowncomics.com on Thursday, and when it’s listed under Kenzer & Co. I know it’ll be out the next week!

      2. I got my issue too. While I enjoyed it, there was no furthering of the Gary Jackson plot. Perhaps next issue?

  3. Superman, Spider-Man, JSA, X-Force, Green Lantern.

But, what you might like to hear: I added X-Factor to my pull list and got my first issue, #49. I really enjoyed it and plan on continuing reading the series. So PAD can rest assured he added someone to the sales.

I actually read Peter David comics a lot, but stopped for a long while. Suddenly I’m remembering why I liked him so much as a writer again and picking up this series. I’m intruiged enough to consider getting the X-Factor TPB collection too.

    Keep up the good work!

  4. Let’s see…haven’t had a chance to read anything yet, but the Astro City Astra special, Glamorpuss, and X-Factor.

I’m looking forward to all of them.

  5. Just got one thing. The Astro City Astra special (part one) was pretty good, if not up to the standards I set for KBAC. The art was a bit off, surprisingly, as the 21 year olds in the story never looked their ages. Still, even run of the mill KBAC is better than most comics.

  6. The latest KoDT has made me rethink some of those games I played as a child!

I have to admit, I’m confused by the ‘future’ story in X-Factor. I think it will make more sense to me when I reread it after it’s done.

  7. I picked up X-Factor, X-Force and New Mutants. I’m greatly enjoying NM – the banter between the characters is spot on for them – especially Sunspot and Dani Moonstar.

As for X-Factor – the conversation between Rictor and Guido was great. And the bit where Shatterstar first meets Val Cooper – hilarious. Really looking forward to the finale of this story.

  8. I picked up X-factor and X-force. There’s something about the combination of Guido, Rictor, and Shatterstar that’s just priceless…Seriously I love this dynamic. Shatterstar is slowly becoming my favourite character (but who can beat Layla or Madrox?), he’s so off the wall and socially unaware it’s awesome. Glad to see that they touched on the Shatterstar/Rictor thing, it was a much needed conversation that played out nicely. Next month…the return of Madrox and Layla (well at least to our timeline)! Issue 50 is going to be awesome…and until next month MAKE MINE MADROX!

  9. Just picked up the last issue of “Old Man Logan”ad was quite disappointed. Months of buildup and some signs that Millar can actually convey emotion and we get what is pretty much a slaughterfest – and not a particularly engrossing one either. Without giving anything away, some scenes that I’m sure were intended to be shocking I found predictable at best and ridiculous at worst. This had all the makings of Wolverine’s “Unforgiven”, but instead Millar had it degenerate into parody.
Oe book that I just HAVE to pick up every month is “Ms. Marvel”. the latest issue has an interesting mystery and a scene that shows us what an irredeemable bášŧárd this man with the name of Norman Osborn is.

  10. Why can’t I see my comment when I put them in. I put in a comment here earlier, and later found it wasn’t put up. Nothing is wrong with my email – why isn’t my comment being accepted?

    1. First time here, your comments have to be approved by a real live person. It should be clear from now on.

  11. Finally got my ish of X-Factor, although Marvel obviously “lost” the one before which I have never gotten. Promptly went online and cancelled my subscription. Will play the odds.

Good issue, but now completely confused about Shatterstar/Rictor. A couple of boards on which I’m a meber has stated that Rictor (and we) read that kiss wrong, and Liefled was right all the time, and Shatt is just asexual (he was kissing because he thought it was appropriate). I’ll see where it goes. Love ‘Doomlocks’ and the theory makes sense. Shatt can tp? Seriously?
{I was wondering whatever happened to that ‘stab myself and produce energy’ power he had back in NM and X-Force).

  12. Finally got my box. X-Factor was great; I love how everything is coming together and I don’t have much of an idea how you’re going to wrap it up. This is a good thing. Shatterstar teleporting (via his swords?) is interesting.

New Mutants was pretty good. EXCEPT the way Wells is writing Sunspot. Still horrible. Is he 12? Has everything he’s gone through in the last decade or two unhappened? *boggles*

New Avengers was decent, except the plotting & pacing annoyed me. It seems like the end should have been the middle of the book and this stuff should be wrapped up by now… I don’t usually have a problem with Bendis’ decompression stuff, but maybe it’s finally starting to wear on me.

Initiative was great as always. The bit with Komodo was moving. Especially given what the readers know about Hardball. I’m liking how it looks like the Deux ex of Nightmare is going to bring everyone together – in the same place at least. And Tigra with stones is interesting, she’s been pretty as a pretty lame person for a while now.

I’m still hanging on with X-Men Forever. I think I’m finding my groove with it. It’s nice to see Claremont moving at such a fast pace again. Also the badassification of Kitty there is interesting. Except I still don’t get how someone with a healing factor is using an adamantium claw. Oh wait, she got some of Wolverine’s healing factor too didn’t she…

    Can’t wait for X-Factor 50 & 200!

  13. I got X-Factor & Thor, both were very good. I however have a question for you. Do you know what the status is on Fallen Angel: The Premiere Collection Volume 2? When can we expect it?

  14. Just finished reading X-Factor bout an hour ago, great issue with lots of unexpected twists, even moreso than usual for X-Factor. Have no idea why Shatterstar locked lips with Val Coper, but I guess we’ll just roll with it for now. The Doom / Cyclops thing was great. I think Cyke is dead, Doom probably did him in. Can’t wait to see how it goes in issue #50. I’ll be surprised if a double-issue can tie all of the pieces together.

  15. I just read X-Factor #49. SPOILER And I just realized something that I’m not sure anyone else has mentioned before…..I thought that the Madrox that got sent to the future (with Layla) returned to the present with an “M” on his face (who we’ve been following since he returned). I don’t remember him leaving a dup in the future. So who is Cortex? I’m wondering if he’s the Madrox that was sent to the past and got picked-up by whoever turned him into Cortex. Anyone else have a thought on this?

    1. There were two Madrox dupes sent into the future, one of which Layla went with. Trypp apparently located the other one in whatever alternate timeline it was in, kidnapped it, and turned it into Doom’s Timelock.

At least, that’s how I think things went. If I’ve misinterpreted, I’m sure someone here will correct me.

    2. Right – during Messiah Complex Forge noted that the birth of Hope Summers created 2 divergent timelines (because once Wanda did her ‘No Mo’ Mutants’ thing, it cancelled out every other possible timeline…or so Forge thought), and there were dupes sent to each timeline.

Technically Madrox went NOWHERE, because he dropped unconsious, but the dupe that ended up in Bishop’s “past” got funneled Marox’s consiousness.

One of the biggest questions for the last year or so has been “what the heck happened to the other dupe?”

PAD has only ‘sorta’ answered the question, because we now what happened to the dupe. What we DON’T know is what is going on in the timeline the dupe was supposed to be sent to, or if it was just an orchestrated plot.

(Because technically, what Forge said didn’t make sense; every other alternate reality didn’t end…if it did, Exiles would have just…stopped…oh wait…it did. But we now know Forge went bat-crap crazy, so he might have been hallucinating half of what he said…)

  16. i have to say, i was disapointed with the shatterstar/val cooper scene.

you promised that they werent going to go “whoa dude why are you kissing me!”

    i felt let down.

then i got mad at myself and thought ‘maybe this is how those liefield guys were feeling when shatterstar kissed rictor?’

    ……….am i reverse heterophobic?

i dont think so. its just that i cant put into words how happy and excited i was when the ric/star thing happened.

i even made it my profile picture on facebook.

i am hoping star done this just to try and make guido feel more comfortable.
