Off to Rochester

Very likely by the time you read this, I’m going to be on the road to Rochester, NY.  Tomorrow morning at 6 AM, Ariel will be boarding the bus with her championship varsity bowling team and heading up to Rochester for the state tournament which will be Saturday morning.  I’ll be driving up right behind and will naturally be there, along with all the other parents, cheering her on.

I’ll also probably catch a showing of “Watchmen” up there Friday evening.

Watch this space for match results.

UPDATED 3/10:  Well, it didn’t turn out as well as we’d hoped.  Ariel’s team finished in sixth place (out of ten teams).  Ariel struggled mightily, bowling below her average much of the day, her fingers cramping due to an injury sustained the previous night.  By the fifth game she was taking Advil and putting her hand on ice, and refused to be taken out for a substitute.  Her last game she gritted it out and shot a 223.  I’ve never been prouder of her.

  1. It seems like about 14 weeks ago you were taking suggestions on what sort of stealth fannish name you could give your rapidly-gestating daughter.

I saw Jon Bogdanove a while back, and he told me his son Kal-El was going into College.

I honestly don’t remember getting older. I think it happens when I’m sleeping or otherwise not paying attention.

  2. The weather warmed up just in time for your visit here. Saturday’s supposed to be a little rainy, but it could be worse. Last week, temps were below freezing and the wind chill made it worse. I nearly lost my face to freeze-bite walking three blocks downtown several days ago.

Best of luck to Ariel and her team, and I hope your stay in our fair city is a pleasant one.

  3. I sure hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow…I lost 46 pounds last fall but have slowly been putting some back on. It’d be nice to get back outside and get active.

I’ve been wearing shorts for weeks, though. Wishful thinking, I guess.

Good luck to Ariel and hope you make it out to Dinosaur BBQ or something of the like!

  4. 223 with an injury is pretty impressive!

If I ever bowled that high I’d have T-shirts made.

  5. 223 is awfully good even without an injury so far as I’m concerned; with an injury it’s downright miraculous.

Sorry that it didn’t go quite as planned, but I hope the trip was worthwhile anyway!
