I’ve known about it for a couple months but didn’t say anything because I’m not big on making with the bad news.
I have to admit, I’m shocked. Shocked. The market has always been so supportive of books with female leads, and She-Hulk has never had a title canceled out from under her before, so I could never have seen this coming.
PAD

Ðámņ :(. I was finally grokking to the new direction too.
There was a She-Hulk book? Really?!
(Kidding, PAD)
bummer. She-Hulk’s one of my favorites. Then again, I’m a girl, so who cares what I like.
so lame. She-Hulk was one of my favorites. But I’m a girl, so who cares what I like…
I thought this was going to happen, but thought that a “Lady Liberators” title was going to spin out of it.
No?
Ðámņ.
Sorry.
~P~
I kind of quessed that this was coming with the X-Factor team-up. PAD (and the industry in general, I suppose) kind of has this habit of writing those when the ship is sinking.
“The market has always been so supportive of books with female leads, and She-Hulk has never had a title canceled out from under her before, so I could never have seen this coming.”
My irony sense is tingling (to quote Tony Stark)
If it lessens the sting at all, I dropped the Red Hulk a couple of months before I dropped
She-Hulk. And now I know it’s a limited series I might even pick up the last few issues for completeness’ sake…
Cheers.
Well that’s too bad. I just picked up the first TPB with PAD writing it the other day and I really enjoyed it.
This really hurts.
Losing 2 DC books, now one of my favorite marvel books. At least I won’t have to trim anything off my list to keep Apropos on there.
I’m shocked. How many issues are still due out? or is marvel canceling what was already in the pipe?
I started picking up She Hulk when you jumped on board, Mr. David, and it’s been one of the first comics I read when I pick up my pulls. It’s been, in my opinion, consistently good and consistently fun, and I am very, very sad to see it go.
On the plus side, if X-Factor goes too, I’ll be able to trim Marvel pretty much completely off my list, seeing as how the other X-Books are consistently “Meh”.
I am so, so disappointed. Marvel only has 2 female, solo books and I was sure that Marvel was dead set on standing behind both of them. Maybe Spider-Woman made this book expendable, I don’t know. Books like Runaways and Eternals could just as well have been canceled and they’re not Marvel mainstays or icons.
All I know is that there were few Marvel titles I enjoyed month after month more than I did She-Hulk. I felt a little nauseous reading the solicit this morning and the thought of not being able to follow the exploits of She-Hulk and Jazinda every month has put me in an extremely foul mood.
Sad to hear this news as SHE-HULK was one of my favorite titles.
who do we write to complain yeah the book hasent been my fav of late but it seemed like it was geting to a less dark place and id like to see it continue as she-hulk is my fav marvel heroine.
Dagoneit
Nightwing,Robin, Birds of Prey gone!! Now SheHulk????
What am I going to read now?
Is X-Factor next?
Nightwing, Robin, Birds of Prey gone!! Now SheHulk????
Well, there goes almost 50% of my pulls… I needed to cut back, but those were not the ones I had in mind… Figures.
Echoing the “this sucks” sentiment. What’s better is, the possible monthlies I might have replaced it with (if I had any inking it was doing badly) were… Blue Beetle and Manhunter. Bleh.
I actually was shocked to read the solicits. When it was announced Dan Slott was leaving the book, I was going to drop it because I figured there was no way anyone could follow him. Then they said you were taking over. Of course I kept reading. The book got a bit darker, so did all Marvel books, but there was still humor and I loved the bounty hunter turn. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the new direction after all is said and done. Ðámņ shame. That makes nine books I buy from the big two that are ending in the new year. She Hulk and Manhunter are fantastic books with female leads that deserve to stick around. Now there’s a hëll of a crossover.
That’s too bad. I started reading She-Hulk because of your writing.
It will be interesting to see how Marvel and DC start deciding which books to keep and cancel now that many people are switching to trades only. Was She-Hulk doing better in trades?
WHAT???????!!!!!!!!!
It’s CANCELLED????????
What the hëll?!
How did this happen?
Peter, were you given a reason for this?
Ðámņ. Ðámņ. I’ve been enjoying this series even more than X-Factor lately. And the 46,000+ “issue nearest to filing date” number in the just-published statement of circulation had me feeling hopeful (just a one-time aberration, due to Secret Invasion or something?). Well, thanks for the great work you gave us while you were able, PAD.
Have they given you enough issues to wrap up your plot threads?
Also, any hints on if they’re giving you another (existing or new) series as a replacement?
This news angers me, Slott and yourself have brought me into buying comics regularly and looking forward each month to reading about a solo superhero. It really makes no sense to me why they get rid of this book and keep other male super hero books like Black Panther or Moon Knight.
It also greatly saddens me that the cancellation means an abrupt end to your run on She-Hulk. I loved all the characters tied in and now they’ll probably vanish for a while, if they ever return at all.
And I never did get my She-Hulk vs. Poundcakes. 🙁
I really hope the cancellation isn’t set in stone and a She-Hulk movement can be started to save her!
Ðámņ shame.
Peter, please accept my apologies. As you know, traffic on the She-Hulk board died off to a trickle, and you hardly heard a word from me in months. The fault was mine—not yours. I’m just not as interested in comics as I used to be. Maybe it’s partly that I’m tired from my job, or maybe I’m just getting old. But believe me—if I really disliked your run on She-Hulk you would have heard about it by now.
I’m going to try to see if I and other fans can save the book, but I’m not optimistic. But there is one thing which I think we She-Hulk fans are entitled to—trades of the last issues of this book. I noticed that while there is a trade solicited for the X-Factor run of “He Loves You”, I don’t see a She-Hulk trade yet. I’m hoping the trade has been simply delayed, but if Marvel has no plans, then there will be hëll to pay.
Thank you very much for your hard work. I know of no other writer—other than Dan Slott himself—who could have kept this book going as long as you did. Every She-Hulk fan is grateful to you for your efforts.
I thought She-hulk was doing good in sales. Wasn’t it selling at about 30k? There’s still a lot of books doing worse. On the reports for September it shows that it’s doing better than it’s done prior to the secret invasion crossover.
Amazon.com has a trade solictation for She-Hulk Vol. 7 which is due April 1, 2009.
http://www.amazon.com/She-Hulk-7-Here-Today-TPB/dp/0785129669/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227048990&sr=8-1
That’s April Fool’s Day, so it’s possible it’s a fake solicitation, but I finally realized what the title of the trade really meant. I wondered why it was entitled “Here Today…” when the obvious title was “He Loves You.”
I think Marvel plans on releasing the trades for Vol. 7 and Vol. 8 simulateously with titles that read:
Vol. 7: Here Today…
Vol. 8: …Gone Tomorrow
“Nightwing,Robin, Birds of Prey gone!! Now SheHulk????”
And Spider-Girl.
This is beyond terrible news! This is and has been my favorite book from Marvel for awhile now. Plus the She-Hulk has been my all-time favorite Marvel heroine. I am stunned by these developments.
What will happen to Jennifer Walters now?!
~ Hype
shame on the comics industry for not being able to keep this or manhunter on the market.
Marvel only has 2 female, solo books and I was sure that Marvel was dead set on standing behind both of them.
Actually, iirc, there are three: She-Hulk, Ms Marvel, and Amazing Spider-Girl (also ending soon).
But why? I mean, it outsells Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, both Punisher titles, Immortal Iron Fist, New Exiles, Ultimate Fantastic Four, and Iron Man.
You know what? There are too many vágìņáš in comics. Bout time we started cutting back on them. I for one, applaud Marvel’s initiative. Still behind DC, though.
Well, with the economy the way it is… if Marvel wants to cancel a book, fine. I’m not picking up another in its stead. They are just making it easier for me to cut back on the titles I collect.
(p.s. nothing can keep me from picking up that Apropos- I am gonna get that no matter what happens).
I’d buy a Lady Liberators spin-off.
I’d also accept an offer from Alyson Hannigan of a month of sybaritic bliss in her sinful love den, which has about the same statistical chance of happening.
ScottyQuick’s comment about She-Hulk outselling Exiles got me to wondering, any chance of you taking over on Exiles after Claremont leaves? New Exiles #18 is listed as the final issue and is titled “Begin Anew”. I think you could do some incredible stuff with the book if you had the chance.
As an aside, does anyone know why PAD’s website keeps crashing my Internet Explorer? I like keeping several tabs open at once and switching between them while waiting for pages to finish loading. Occasionally, I’d crash while doing this. It took me months to realize that my browser crashes only seem to happen when one of the open tabs is PAD’s page.
Alex – You said the magic word: ‘economy’. When comics were 25 cents, a bad economy hurt sales, sure, but not as much as now that they’re hovering at $3.50 here in Canada. Of course this doesn’t explain why it’s this particular book. Since the days Byrne decided to have fun with the character, 20+ years ago, Shulkie has been one of the freshest, most entertaining ones out there. Who is to being understanding the tastes of some readers?
I cannot begin to say how disappointed I am by this news. I have always adored She-Hulk and Mr. David–you have been doing a stellar job with the book. It is one of the books I most look forward to reading each month. Is there any hope Marvel could have it’s mind changed on this one ? The sales with the SI issues were so great that I thought things were going well so a cancelation at this point wasn’t on my radar. If there is no way around it—well, then I do hope Shulkie gets another chance again. 25 issues the first time, 60 the second and 50 the third—that’s not too shabby of a record. Thank you so much for making this such an enjoyable read for me every month !!
Argh! Couldn’t we try to pull a Spider-Girl with this?
I was just thinking the same thing about Spider-Girl. I just sent an e-mail to Marvel—-maybe if everyone writes in, they could reconsider ?
Obama wins=you lose work.
Coincidence????????
I was just thinking the same thing about Spider-Girl. I just sent an e-mail to Marvel—-maybe if everyone writes in, they could reconsider ?
Mike, if you really want to impress Marvel, do NOT send an e-mail! Print up a letter on paper and send it by SNAIL MAIL! You can’t delete a piece of paper, and a lot of paper gets more attention than a bunch of 1’s and 0’s…
I’m a huge fan of your work PAD, but despite following it all the way through, this run on She-Hulk never clicked for me. I kind of get what you were trying to do with it; it was certainly darker in tone. I guess it just wasn’t what I was looking for in a She-Hulk book.
I hope X-Factor sticks around. I find the characters and dynamics a lot more interesting.
That’s disappointing – not my favorite of yours, but I always enjoyed it, it’s disturbingly accurate depiction Cleveland. Been in my pull list since you started writing.
Please God make this an opportunity to get back on writing the Hulk. I hate Loeb’s direction. I feel like a character that you helped to make great is being ruined.

She’s already torn up all my X-Men comics. Now what’s she going to come after?
I remember one of my Cup-O-Joe questions about She-Hulks cancellation and then reboot how Quesada said they had big plans for her and would be making a promotional push. Aside from announcing the new team nuthin.
What has annoyed me most about the handling of the She-Hulk series is that when she’s given a fill-in series in another book she gets a top name artist but when she’s in her solo book they play musical artists with a different artist every few issues.
I’m almost sorry I didn’t keep up with the book. Except, I didn’t like it. I would have preferred the book to stick to its comic law roots, and while I appreciate that you wanted to do something different, I gave it four issues and I wasn’t interested. It was a deviation too far for me.
Eddie—thanks for the tip. I will definitely use snail mail as well ! She-Hulk is just too good to get canceled ! Yeah, I know–good books get canceled all the time but that doesn’t make it any less disappointing !

Roots so successful that the book was canceled three times before I ever wrote a single word of it.
PAD
Essex,
I know that I’ve had problems with PAD’s Countdown Clock widget in the past. Perhaps that could be causing your browser issues.
I’m sorry to hear about the cancellation. Here’s hoping you get another assignment soon. In the meantime, I’ll be adding Apropos to go along with my X-Factor fix.
