I felt, and still do feel, the media was far too mean to poor Miss South Carolina who spouted gibberish when asked about the lacking geography skills of American students.
That said, the Pace University Freshman Cabaret managed to find a new angle on the debacle as student Danicah Waldo (remember that name; you heard it here first) performs Miss SC’s answer, set to music by Jason Wetzel, in “Miss South Carolina: The Musical” and wonderfully captures the poor girl’s deer-in-the-headlights thought process:“>

It’s amazing how it can be word for word, but the change of context is spectacularly funny.
It reminds me of when Doctor Seuss died. Saturday Night Live had Jesse Jackson come on Weekend Update and read Green Eggs and Ham. No real joke, he just read the book in his usual dramatic reading style and that was enough. They managed to be respectful to the man’s death and still be funny, which is a pretty impressive feat.
Thanks for posting this PAD, Ms. Waldo is very talented.
Colour me ambiguous, and turn the page…
Ms Waldo does appear to be extremely talented. I’m not totally convinced I want to laugh at the unfortunate Miss Spontaneous Combustion or at what it does say about the education system though.
Then again, that’s a recurring personal bias of mine – I went off Friends when it started asking people to laugh at the characters rather than with them.
Cheers.
Agreed about the media’s treatment of the original Miss South Carolina.
Otherwise …
Wow. Just … wow.
That is just stunning. And the only way for the gag to work is for Ms. Waldo to have that strong a singing voice.
Beautifully done.

Have you seen the male version? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4l-cxJr4028
If anybody is thinking it, No relation to me. (too bad She like Bugs’ Bunny would be good for a touch [hitting up for money, pervs])
That IS Broadway-quality singing (and comic timing). We will hear from her again.

So, in what way do you think the media was mean?
This joke is approaching a year old and it’s not that funny anymore.
Danicah Waldo nailed it, all right.
As for the real Miss SC, the poor girl had the right answer the first time. She should have saID: 00″Maybe U.S. Americans can’t find the U.S. on a map because they don’t have maps. So, yeah, somebody should just give ’em a friggin’ map and then they can figure out how to use it. It’s not that hard. Non-U.S. Americans, like Canadians (who are technically North Americans), and Central and South Americans, they’re not our problem. So f*ck them. As for Iraq, why haven’t we bombed them out of existence yet? And South Africa should send me a diamond.”
I’d kick ášš in the Q&A round of these pagents, but I’d get walloped in the evening gown competition. I don’t look good in pumps.
Ha! Shows what you know, Myres. We have a map of Virginia on the wall of the training room at work and, not matter how hard I’ve tried in the past, I’ve never been able to find the U.S. on it.
I did find China though. It’s on the bottom corner of the map in really small print. But not the whole thing, just some little provence called Madein.
Have you seen the T Shirt making fun of her? it’s not as mean. miss south carolina t shirt
