In case anyone’s interested, and even if they’re not, I will be attending the Big Apple convention tomorrow. It’ll be a pretty short stint; I’m coming in to participate on a 1:30 panel with Andy Schmidt about breaking into comics. I’m not set up to sign or anything, although if you come up to me with book in hand and waving a pen, I won’t throw it back in your face.

You can sit at our table for awhile if you want a place to sign. That way, attendees bringing in select issues of Hulk or Supergirl can get them signed by the writer and the inker. 🙂

does the strike of the Writers Guild of America allow you to attend to these kind of activities?
This was the first time I have seen you since you started to live healthier Peter, Looking good!
I worked a table all weekend (first trip in NYC…whew)and couldn’t get up to see you, Peter.
Had a couple great experiences meeting some of the artists and creators, and some not so great. I’m trying to stay positive here…but some of the artists were just plain dìçkš. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt but somehow I think it’s the rule and not the exception.
And let’s talk about exploitation…did Soupy Sales’ family drag him out of a nursing home to make the convention?
Well, Soupy has actually been at the Big Apple cons for sometime. He may just do it as a favor to the the show’s organizer (Carbanaro).
While that may be so, he can’t lift his head up, he can barely write, he can’t see, and he’s got to take pills and get fed pineapple slices while he sits in his wheelchair all day while his family is more than willing to take people’s money.
Favor or not, someone should step in and say, thank you for your years of entertainment service but it’s time for you to get your last pie in the face.
Then again, maybe he does still get a kick out of it all and his body just isn’t responding as well as his mind…if that’s the case—more power to him…I guess.
I was so happy to finally end my sixteen-year streak of missing you at conventions, Peter. I’ve been waiting to shake your hand since a certain column in CBG in 1991.
It was lovely to finally meet you, even if only for a few minutes. [It was a working con for me as well, and I knew you had places to be.]

The Writer’s strike has nothing to do with comic book writing, therefore he may attend conventions. The strike has to do with writing for television, movies, some animation, and maybe a thing or two I’ve not mentioned. Writers can write novels, poetry, short stories, love letters, and even sign for packages when the UPS delivery shows up.
They can even right wrongs!
