Favorite X-Factor characters?

Just out of the sake of my own curiosity, I’d be interested to know who your top two favorite X-Factor characters are? I’m saying “two” going on the assumption that if I said “Who’s your favorite” most people would say Madrox.

So who’re your top two?

Feel free to pass this query to other boards. I’d like to know peoples’ opinions.

  1. Am I the only one who immediately thought “uh oh, PAD’s looking to kill someone off, and he’s trying to hit readers where it hurts most…”

Maybe I invest too much time thinking “What Would Joss Do?” with shows I like.

Guido has always been a favorite of mine. Him and Syren would be my vote.

  2. Madrox, then Layla, followed closely by Riktor.

Oh, so I gave a top three. Make it four, or five, because I enjoy Siryn and the not-actually a member Quicksilver a lot too.

  3. To give you an idea of how long it’s been since I’ve read Xmen, I would say The Beast and Cyclops.

Are they still members? Are they still considered “Xmen?”

  4. Madrox is my obvious first choice. He’s turned into my favorite mutant character through these pages!

Rictor is definitely second. I was disappointed to see so many non-powered mutants written off (literally) after the decimation, but I’ve been amazed with how you’ve been able to keep Rictor an active member of the group who definitely pulls his weight. Great stuff!

  5. To David S: Well, Beast and Cyclops are still X-Men, but they’re not part of X-Factor (not in well over a decade, at any rate).
As to the topic at hand, my faves tend to change from time to time. Today, though, I guess I’d have to list Jamie and Rictor as the top two. Rahne and Layla are pretty close (I’ve always liked Rahne since the “New Mutants” GN) and the two of them, Theresa, and even Monet have had their time at the top. About the only character who’s never been at the top of my list is Guido. Don’t get me wrong–I do like Guido. He does have his moments where he really shines. But this is pretty much like any team with a lot of personal faves, somebody HAS to come in last.

  6. 1I’m going to buck the trend and shift Madrox done the list a bit. I admit that I like him better now than I ever have in the past, but he just doesn’t warrant the top two for me. I prefer Layla then Siryn.

  8. I’d have to say my favorite two in X-factor are Madrox and Rictor… followed closely by Rhane and Quicksilver.

  9. 1 – Rahne. Very believable power set/characterizations. (And since I gave one of my daughters the middle name “Rahne”, I’d better put it number 1.)

2 – Monet. Again, it’s a believable match of characterization and power set. Yes, she acts like she is better than everybody else, but she really is better than everybody else, so is the attitude justified?

  10. Tough decision. I can give you my top four…

    First: Jamie
    Close Second: Layla Miller
    Third: Monet
    Close Fourth: Everybody Else.

Hmmm…I guess Jamie and Layla come out on top since they’re both a good distance over the others, but I like them all. A lot. I just hadn’t thought about quantifying this until you asked…

  11. My top two:

Monet: She got all of Magneto’s anti-anti-mutant attitude, with none of the megalomania. She likes to pretend she’s detached from everything, but her actions in support and defense of her teammates betray that front.

Layla: Who couldn’t love that adorable little smart-ášš. I picture she spends her downtime gawking at the outfits on Go Fug Yourself and reading Television Without Pity. Their snarkiness give Layla a run for the money.

  12. Madrox and Madrox

Your punishment for making me laugh and almost getting me caught checking this at work is to be placed in a small space with Maddrox and strike him 1000 times.

  13. I would have to say Monet and Guido. Guido cracks me up, and Monet is interestingly unlikable. She creates a good foil for the other characters.

You know, my biggest concern about the aftermath of Messiah Complex is that we could lose the wonderful character dynamic that puts X-Factor on top of my reading list, especially having seen that Rahne will be involved in X-Force. Hopefully you won’t lose her entirely.

  14. 1 Layla
    2 Monet

but Quicksilver is really “intresting” and slipping further and further from redemption with each issue

  15. I’d have to say Madrox and Layla, followed by Rictor , Monet and Theresa.

I don’t know why, but Rayne really isn’t catching my interest all that much, and Guido’s been practically a non-entity ever since the Singularity storyline.

  16. Monet and Rahne, closely followed by Siryn.

I think that Madrox is probably the most interesting–if he weren’t, the book in its current configuration would suck. However, whenever Monet, Rahne, or Siryn have panel time, my ears perk up.

  17. I think Layla is probably one of my favorite characters in all of comics right now. I utterly adore what you’ve done with her. She’s weird and creepy and snarky and always interesting.

Jamie would have to be my second favorite, though I have a lot of fondness for all of them, really.

And if we don’t hear more about the whole ‘Jamie/Layla marriage’ thing sometime in the near future, I shall be very sad.

  18. Layla and M. I’ve always had a thing for M. I don’t know why.

I would say Rahne since I’ve loved her since her New Mutant days, but these days I’m just not sure who she is anymore. Too many writers with different angles have made her confusing. No offense to you, of course.

  19. Madrox. Probably Rahne too though, for the sake of “Rahne’s World,” I still go into hysterics every once and a while about that.

  21. Hmmm. During your previous run on the title I would have stated Guido and Quicksilver. As for your current run, I cast my vote for Layla and Madrox with Rahne running a close third.

  22. I don’t know. I like all of them. I like Madrox and Monet because I get what they’re about. I like Guido and Rahne because I want to know what they’re about. Syren and Layla in the middle. Rictor is the only one I don’t care much about, but I don’t know why.

  23. Easily Monet and Guido.

Madrox is fun, but I think the fact that he can literally be anybody has kept him from being fully developed as a character. Which is interesting in itself, but more in terms of plot than character.

  24. Rahne. I’ve always liked her. It’ll suck hardcore if she leaves the team for some reason.

As for #2…Layla Miller. She’s had some of the best lines and some of the best scenes.

NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING MY FAVORITE: Monet’s a heartless bìŧçh who needs to die ASAP. That, or turn out to be a Skrull, of course.

  25. Even though I’ve loved Madrox since the mayo jar, I’ve always found your takes on Guido and Pietro more humanizing and have liked them just as much as Jaime.
And I hated Quicksilver before X-factor so it’s cool that your work with him made him likable in my eyes.

  26. 1) Rahne (she was my favorite New Mutant from when I was little, and I love the way you write her here)
    2) Monet
    3) Layla
