Of course Iraq is a mess, a country has to want democracy and change, their people have to rise up and fight for it. How would it turn out if America was invaded by a group of people who claimed our government was evil and decided that they were going to take over and change things “for the better”.

Well, all that went through my mind was, “Geez, what a hard-luck name to have in the military. He’s got to have heard all the bad jokes about a million times.”

Many have been the debated reasons on why things aren’t working out well in Iraq. But at least we can all reast easy knowing that the GOP has decided to place the blame where it belongs.

Why, how dare these vile men, these military “experts”, ask for what felt they needed (manpower, weapons, equipment, other tools, etc.) to win, from day one get told they would make due with what Rummy thought was best for them and nothing more and then still go on to screw up Rummy’s great master plan and Bush’s shiney, happy victory in Iraq.

As bad as this mess is, I don’t think a tactical brain trust composed of Alexander of Macedonia, William the Conqueror, Frederick Barbarossa and George Patton could win this one for us. And when you consider that all we’ve got is Bush, Chaney and Rumsfeld, we are all well and truly screwed.
The sad thing is it appears to me any story that’s negative about our war forces in Iraq the lot of you jump on it as if it were the gospel truth. Any positive news you hear about us in Iraq you dismiss as government lies and propoganda. People on the “left” are so opened minded huh?

Given that reporters have been instructed not to report good news to avoid reprisals, I’m not so sure that it’s a bad procedure to take.
What’s so open minded about not being critical of a Secretary of War that forbade contingency planning for post Hussein? What’s open-minded for ignoring the use of torture? What’s open-minded about being so arrogant we’re right that we don’t bother to put error-checking procedures in capturing terrorists?

That’s funny, I don’t see anyone doing that. All I see is you completely missing the point of this thread, and indirectly calling everyone closed-minded based on no evidence, while using a puerile screen name. So, yeah, you might want to swim to firm ground before you open your mouth.

We’ve been dismissing positive news from Iraq as government lies and propaganda because so much of has been exactly that. I get my news about the war from friends who’ve been there; from Frank, who’s part of a construction battalion, and has seen the mess up close and personal; from Darwin, a bird colonel who commands a armored unit, and is in the thick of things daily; and from Glenn, one of my old coworkers at Dell, who’s a sergeant with an infantry unit.
These guys and more are the ones I get my news from, guys who are there, not the spin doctors at the White House or the media whørëš at Fox. I want to know the truth, not the niou-se that Bush thinks I’ll swallow.

This administration is not big on the planning thing. No contingency plans for Iraq. No contingency plans for natural disasters. And lately it’s been reported that there are no contingency plans for how the White House will work with the Dems if (or when) they take control of the House and/or the Senate.

I’ve read a lot of stuff on Hitler and the Nazis, and except for their talent at putting together a strong military machine and actually knowing how to use it tactically, they seem to be a lot like the Bush Administration… Rommel was held back by bureaucratic nonsense, and the only reason Messerschmidt couldn’t deploy the 262 in time to do the Reich any good is because of hidebound thinking by Goering, who insisted that planes have a thousand mile range and be able to carry a thousand pounds of bombs.
That same sort of stupidity is going to get our áššëš stomped in Iraq. We are becoming hated by just about everyone in the world, and it’s all because of Bush and Arab oil. It’s hubris and greed, nothing but.

It would seem to me that the troops would be a lot more effective if they didn’t have to worry about protecting the press at the same time that they’re trying to fight a war.
If the news is always going to be bad anyway, what’s the sense of them being there?
I’m sure I’d be really motivated to protect a persons who’s over there with me who’s only job is to tell my folks back home how I’m not doing a very good job and how we’re losing…I’d sooner want to put a bullet in HIS head as opposed to the enemy—

Don’t get me wrong… But… Isn’t true that things are not going well in Iraq? I mean, the idea of bringing democracy to a country is a good one, but invading it with an army and establishing an occupation force wasn’t a bad tactic, especially when dealing with bitter religious fanatics, whom are not afraid to die?
I’m sure this General Custer is telling something that anyone over there already knows. Besides, people should know the truth about this occupation. To ignore the same people that elected the actual goverment is, at best, an agression to the same freedom the soldiers were suppose to bring to the Iraq people.
I can understand that people wanting to defend their country’s goverment actions, but… To be patriot is to think what is best to your country, not what the your goverment tells you it is best.
