Riding Herd on the Kids, Day 2

Was awoken this morning by a rapping, a gentle tapping on my chamber door. ‘Twas more than the wind; ’twas Caroline looking for Kathleen, who had already headed out to the Froud class. Once Ariel was up and around, we headed over to a massive kiddie play area called “Fun4all.” The moment we got to the outside of the place, Caroline shouted joyously, “Ballpit!” She made a beeline for the aforementioned pit where she spent much of her time.

Took the kids out to lunch, then came back and watched the closing match of the PBA season. Chris Barnes won, in case anyone is interested.

Then I brought them over to a local carnival and they had a great time going on assorted rides (including a gigantic slide.) Playing some of the typical midway games, I won a doll of Dora the Explorer (dressed as a pirate) for Caroline and a huge penguin from Madagascar for Ariel.

Came home, ordered in pizza. Watched “West Wing,” and will do a Cowboy Pete about it tomorrow once folks have had a chance to watch it.

  1. When I was little, there were no ballpits in my area, if at all. Now that ballpits are all over the place, I’m too big for them (and I don’t mean ‘too grown-up,’ I mean ‘they’re not deep enough to really be enjoyable given that I’m nearly six feet tall’). Le sigh.

  2. Can’t wait for your opinions on tonight’s West Wing…for me, it struck a good balance between triumph and tragedy…next week’s funeral episode should be tough to watch! Despite the sad fact the series is winding down, at least the show is going out with some of its best episodes in years!

  3. That sounds like a great day with the kids. Our minor league baseball team has a day game next week. I can’t wait to take my son. Those are the kind of days to be treasured, when the family’s together, you’ve got a few dollars to spend, and everybody eats food that is bad for you and smiles all day.

  4. I actually watched Barnes beat Jaros. I had to root for Jaros since he’s from the Chicago area.

Now I’m looking forward to Cowboy Pete’s comments about West Wing.

  5. I’m happy for Barnes that he actually won something, but I really wish someone at ESPN or the PBA would ban the phrase “monkey off his back” in perpetuity. I cringe everytime I hear it.

Now I can go back to rooting for Walter Ray in the Roll for Riches in a couple of weeks.

  6. Our local version of Fun4all is Bullwinkle’s Family Fun Center. Off to the side of the arcade games is the play area for kids 58″ and under, Kidopolis. It used to have a ballpit, but word from the employees is that too many kids lost their lunch in it. Each time requiring a complete removal and cleaning of all of the balls, of course. The pit now houses several large alligator-shaped vinyl cushions, undoubtedly faster to clean than hundreds of plastic balls.
