Road Trip to and From Necronomicon (repost)

I’m reposting an entry from further down because we’re coming up on the deadline for the bus and we haven’t got near enough participants. I’m suspecting this’ll be one of those things where fifty people come up to me at the convention and say, “Oh, if only we’d known about it!” but of course they didn’t bother to read the Necronomicon website (and please, don’t confuse it with the convention that had OJ). I’ll be keeping this posting at the top of the site for the next week to give everyone a chance to see it, although further blog entries will be made.

The following is an excerpt from the website for Necronomicon http://stonehill.org/necro.htm, a convention in Tampa, FL that I’ll be attending October 28-30:

Calling all fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Peter David or (best of all) both. Want to go on a little adventure to kick off Necronomicon. Check this action: The beautiful San Marco Theater in Jacksonville is going to be screening two of the most acclaimed “Buffy” episodes ever at 11 PM Friday, October 28: “Hush,” followed by the karaoke version of “Once More With Feeling.” Organized by none other than Peter’s daughter, Shana, the showing will not only feature Rocky Horror-esque audience participation, but extras including a trivia competition with nifty prizes courtesy of IDW, the publishers of the “Angel” and “Spike” comics.

Now Peter’s going either way, but we’ve come up with a plan if enough hardy souls are interested in going along…”

If you’re going to be attending Necro, and are interested in participating in a small adventure, check out the website and read up on it. And if you’re a Buffy fan, be sure to relay this information to other fans as well.

Hope to see you there.

  1. I noticed the poster up for that last week on the San Marco Theater as I (briefly) visited Jacksonville, and almost died of envy.

Still, my raving about it has persuaded my host to attend with his girlfriend, so that’s at least two for you, PAD. 😀 Say hi to HJ for me, huh?

  2. Peter I forwarded this to a couple central Florida email lists. I am looking forward to seeing you at Necronomicon, although I am passing on this trip (I’ll be on the road for 90 minutes on Friday already).

P.S. I saw that web site for the con with OJ Simpson. Anybody knows if that was that real or a hoax. A con with him would be in complete pandemonium I would think with crowd control.

Oh, that was one hundred percent real, and before the convention, I would have agreed with you vis a vis crowd control. Turns out you and I would have been completely wrong.

    They shunned him.

Sitting there selling his autograph at $95 a throw, a report I read stated that less than ten people came anywhere near him the entire day. Now I don’t know what the monetary arrangements were. But if they paid him to come and expected to recoup through a share of the autograph money, then they took a bath. If he charged no fee and was expecting to be making money hand over fist, then he was sorely disappointed.

It might have been that people weren’t interested purely because of the price. On the other hand, there’s every chance that he could have been charging the standard twenty bucks and still not seen all that much more business.

  4. Well, I wouldn’t attend myself, but I’m pulling for you on this one, PAD. Come on, people! Get out and support Shanna!

  5. I’m up for it. I guess living in Florida will finally have an advantage (well, besides the speedy flight school registration and flexible voting). While I’m excited about going I am a bit of an introvert. Just try to make sure no one looks at me or tries to engage me in conversation.

  6. I posted the link on my blog yesterday. I had a couple of emails come in from people that are just too far from Florida to make it, but we are circulating the word throughout the forums for ya! =)

  7. Well looks like it will be even harder to find people interested. They have removed the link for the trip from the main page and you actually have to really dig to find the link.

You now have to click the Necro-file daily update link on the main page and from their scroll down through several days worth of updates to find the PAD trip link to get to yet another page with the information.

  8. I was at the theatre yesterday, having evacuated to Jacksonville. Some supplies are in and it looks to be a lot of fun. It looks like it will be worth most any drive…

  9. 1Yeah, that was some great fun last night! Even with the, uh… OVERLY enthusiastic fans who sat right behind us… but I guess sitting in the front row could’ve been a bad choice. Peter was an effective host even though he dámņ near killed himself trying to get on stage. And hëll, my two friends got on-stage for Buffy-oke and won me a comic so I was thrilled… even if they DID come in 2nd or third but they didn’t have a lot of room to move so I blame THAT. Anyone who DIDN’T go last night, go tonite. IT IS FUN!!!
Hëll, I might go after the Bain Mattox show at Jack Rabbits since it should be over in plenty of time.
