As Kathleen notes, Peter will be real busy for a bit. In the interim, I’ll be breaking out the old But I Digress… columns we keep in the BIDcave for just such occasions.
Please note that I expect a certain degree of civility. I don’t want to have to break out the lead shielding in the comment threads, and I’m much more inclined to keep things quiet so that Peter doesn’t have to deal with the grief and he can concentrate on writing. To paraphrase Josh Lyman, Peter’s a good man. He’s got a good heart. He doesn’t hold a grudge. That’s what he pays me for.*
If you need a refresher course, I recommend viewing the filmstrip Posting And You.
So let him finish, and he can have most of what he needs to have done in time for Shore Leave. (Did we mention he’d be at Shore Leave? Get your tickets now. Did I mention I’ll probably be at Shore Leave too? Like anybody cares.)

“In the interim, I’ll be breaking out the old But I Digress… columns”
One word.
YES!!!!
And thank you VERY much for the West Wing link.
“…and I’m much more inclined to keep things quiet so that Peter doesn’t have to deal with the grief and he can concentrate on writing.”
*sigh* Pack up the gorilla suits, guys.

Wow! Can I link to that “Posting and You” filmstrip? How ’bout if I contribute something to you? Not to the web page, as such, but to you, the Webmaster? Like are you going to be at Dragon*Con this year, where I can provide you a tall, frosty beverage someplace?
Great idea, Glenn. Archiving all the BID’s to date is a good project. In fact, I have an idea: How about a page on the site in which they’re listed chronologically (and/or another page where they’re listed by category), and perhaps a search engine with which one can search for some by content or key words? That would be great.
Man, “Posting and You” should be mandatory viewing for anyone who uses the Internet.
I really don’t know what to make of this string: You paraphrase Josh Lyman to the effect that “Peter’s a good man. He’s got a good heart. He doesn’t hold a grudge. That’s what he pays me for” and then footnote the paraphrase with “You may note that Peter does quite well at holding a grudge on his own is why I get paid so little.” What do you want to say, as this is internally inconsistent? Do you accuse him of holding grudges or not? Is it possible that you “get paid so little” because your self-editing is incoherent? Considering how seldom PAD bans people from this board, despite sometimes significant provocation, I think it is conceivable that he is good at not holding grudges beyond reason. If you wish to say otherwise, please be clearer. As it is, the remark sounds like an attempt at imitating PAD’s style without really grasping it.
At the moment it appears I won’t be working over Shore Leave weekend (there was considerable danger in that happening for a while), so I’ll be there as well (as usual). It should be a fun convention and I wonder what episode will be done on Mystery Trekkie Theater 3000 this year. There are lots of fun things at the convention every year. The costumes that Kathleen are putting together are sure to be wonderful and punful in some fashion. Glenn, hope to meet you there.

Sigh. I’d love to go to SL, but the hotel at Towson is usually booked by early March.
Maybe next year.
There are alternate hotels that are quite close.

where are the BID columns?? 😀
Luigi: There’s a link on the sidebar to all the BID columns.
Jeffrey: It’s more a reflection on the fact that Peter does hold onto more than his share of grudges, leaving very little paying work for me. In addition, he also outsources a certain number of his grudges to Harlan, but those grudges tend to go away quickly– or rather, the person that he holds the grudge against goes away quickly. And usually is never heard from again.
As far as banning people goes, well, it’s been quiet of late.
Glenn –
This seems as good a place to post this as any. I do not have a PayPal account, and have tried several times to make a donation to this site. While a couple of these failures were because of my errors in entering information, the others were because the “pay by credit card” site was so slow in processing information that “the session has expired” and I was told to re-enter my information. Which, due to pages taking over a minute to open and consistent slowdown throughout, is impossible to do before the session expires again. If there is a problem with the “pay through credit card” page, I thought you should know; assuming that my connection/computer is just too slow, could you tell me how to open a PayPal account so that I can try donating that way? Thanks

Just to update: I now have a Pay Pal account, and when I receive my Expanded Use number, I will make a donation. Thanks
To Glenn: Nothing is much clearer, unfortunately. When you quote someone, do not attempt to refute him, and then say essentially the converse of what he said, it is needlessly obscure. Your response seems to confirm that you believe PAD does, in fact, hold more than his share of grudges. If you say so, OK. As someone who holds more than his own share of grudges, I don’t think it is anything a friend would crow about, but opinions can vary, obviously. Previous posts by me prove I don’t have any insight into PAD’s thought processes, so I must take your word for it.
