“Who’s your candidate” poll on AOL

So just to be open minded, AOL was offering this quiz that you can take to see which candidate you line up with for the presidency. So I answered the questions.

Turns out apparently my man is Dennis Kucinich, who matched 85% of my search criteria. So that falls into the “Oh well” category. Next was Kerry with 77%. Interestingly–or maybe unsurprisingly–Bush matched up with exactly 9% of my search criteria. Which may prompt some cynics to say, “That much, huh?” and that’s a fair point. I almost wonder where we DO overlap.

Nader didn’t factor into the quiz because they hadn’t included third party or independent candidates. Would’ve been interesting to see if, ideologically, Nader scored the highest.

Someone at TV Guide is a “Space Cases” fan

I thought it was interesting when the TV Guide Crossword puzzle, on two separate occasions, had “Kristian ___ of Space Cases” (Ayre, in case you were wondering) as a clue. But this week’s TV Guide features “Azizi of ‘Space Cases'” in referring to Rahi Azizi, the dour “Bova” of the show.

It’s nice to know SOMEONE remembers.

In answer to questions about “Fallen Angel” and Vertigo

Vertigo has been approached about the notion of taking over the series and has declined to do so. The reason given is that ostensibly it explores territory too familiar to other Vertigo books. I leave it to others to opine on that.

In any event, if the series is going to continue, it’s going to be as a straight up DCU title that remains outside the DCU (so that mainstream superhero fans can ignore it) and without a Vertigo label (so that Vertigo fans can ignore it.) Frankly, if anyone has some marketing ideas (that will, naturally, cost DC virtually nothing to undertake) I’m more than happy to hear them.

I am shocked…shocked…

As Tom Ridge announces yet another terrorist alert for New York and LA, the money phrase in the statement is here:

“The threat potential remains through the Nov. 2 elections, Ridge said.”

What were the odds, I ask you?

Is it possible that there may be another terrorist attack? Sure. That’s pretty much the case in any country these days. I’m just wondering if other governments are working on keeping its citizenry as perpetually jumpy as this one is…and coinciding, by staggering coincidence, with Kerry’s bump from the DNC. I can’t help but wonder which concerns Bush more: Car bombs or Kerry’s slight increase in numbers.

I notice no one refuting Michael Moore’s claim that the terrorism alert status will never go down to green. Ever.

Jimmie F. Skaggs

When I finally put on the episode of “Monk” that I taped last week, I noted with pleasure the name “Jimmie F. Skaggs” in the opening credits as a guest star. I got to know Jimmie, a talented and eminently pleasant character actor, some years ago when he was appearing as “Buteo,” the solemn Indian-esque wiseman in my films “Oblivion” and “Backlash: Oblivion II.” We hung out in Romania while I was over there, and he was a really sweet guy.

So imagine my shock when, at the very close of the episode, it said, “In Memory of Jimmie F. Skaggs.”

Ðámņáŧìøņ. I didn’t know he died of complications from cancer a couple of weeks ago at the age of 59.

If you’ve never seen either of the “Oblivion” movies, scrounge around at your local DVD shop and see if you can score a copy. He’s done tons of work in movies and various episodics, and I openly admit my bias, but I thought he was great in the role and it’s a crying shame to lose someone that young.

Run DNC

So with the Democratic National Convention wrapped, what did you guys think? High points? Low points? Kerry’s speech?

Personally, I thought he did very well. With so much being attached to this speech in terms of do-or-die, he seemed a little shaky to start out, but slowly built up an impressive head of steam. By the end I thought he sounded pretty dámņëd good.

Although I still have to say I thought Comedy Central’s “John Kerry: He’s Not George W. Bush” was still the best commentary on the night.
