NOW *THAT’S* HOW TO RESCUE A DAUGHTER KIDNAPPED BY TERRORISTS

I happened to catch the last 40 minutes or so of “True Lies,” watching the future governor of California rescuing his daughter, Faith the Vampire Slayer, and I’m thinking, Wow. Now how spectacular would that have been on “West Wing.” Zoey Bartlett is being threatened at gunpoint, clinging for her life with a two mile drop yawning beneath her…and suddenly President Bartlett shows up in a harrier, hauls her aboard, aims a missile at the terrorists and says, “You’re vetoed.” He fires, blows them to bits, and flies away to the tune of “Hail to the Chief.”

Boy, that would sure stake out a tone for the post-Sorkin attitude, wouldn’t it.

The Power of PeterDavid.net readers

I’m curious.

Right now, Gods Above is ranked at #349 on Amazon. Stone and Anvil is at #1481 and No Limits is at #1246, but neither of them have even shipped yet.

What I want to know is, can we push those numbers even higher? Can we get Gods Above into the top 250,and Stone and Anvil and No Limits into the top 1000?

If we can, it’ll truly help illustrate how useful this website is, and how much we can use it to help push some of Peter’s other projects along. By demostrating how strong Peter’s fan base is, we’ll be much more likely to get other projects going just on the strength on you, the fans of his work, which we can use to convince publishers to print some of Peter’s other work.

And if it goes even higher… well, I’m sure I can come up with something special to put on the website…

UPDATE: 6 PM — Gods Above is at 294 on the list, and is at #12 for Science Fiction and Fantasy. Keep it up! The bat is– oops, wrong weblog.

BRIDE OF UPDATE: 7:45 PM No Limits is now up to 942. Yow! Just a brief mention, and you make it happen. Amazing. (Dare I hope for top 500?)

THE DREAM WORLD SERIES

We have potential for the tussle of a lifetime, folks. Just picture this for a moment. Savor it. Contemplate the ramifications in these four magical words:

Cubs Versus Red Sox.

Two perennial losers. Two World Series wastes of space, going head to head. The match-up that you can only envision ending in the seventh game, bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, game’s tied…and a meteor hits the stadium and obliterates both teams.

Seriously: Who would you root for? I’m not interested in the opinions of fans of the respective teams. I’m talking about people such as–well, myself–who have no vested interest one way or the other. And all of you who are poised over your keyboard about to pretentiously announce that you don’t give a dámņ about baseball…shut the f**k up, would’ja, please?

Me, I’m thinking the Sox, just to get poor Bill Buckner off the hook.

Any thoughts? Let’s ponder it now before events in the playoffs make it moot.

CAT’S MEOW

Check it out, kiddies: Costume pic, presumably of Halle Barrie. I don’t have any verification that this is the actual ensemble, but it’s interesting to look at:

On the one hand it doesn’t look like any Catwoman ensemble I’ve ever seen. On the other hand, I can think of any number of artists who, if given a free hand, might indeed design something like that for Selina. What artist’s style does it remind YOU of?

SPIDEY 2 NOVELIZATION

At the moment I’m hard at work on the novelization for Spider-Man 2. The deadline on this one is insanely tight; I’m trying to get through ten script pages a day, which would give me a rough draft of the script/book itself in two weeks. Then, of course, comes all the fun of developing new scenes to flesh it out to manuscript length.
