GWEN NEEDS AN APARTMENT

My daughter Gwen, up in Boston, is going to need a new place come September. She’s looking for a two bedroom apartment in the $1000-$1200 range, preferably walkable to a stop along the Red line. Something reasonably commutable to University of Mass. in Boston.

Anyone who has a line on such a residence should write to me at padguy@aol.com.

Thanx.

  1. Wow. Sorry in advance for all the weirdoes that are going to e-mail you. If I were you, I wouldn’t take anyone up on their offers or ideas unless you personally know them VERY well.

  2. Eh, it’ll probably okay. If this was an Alexis Bledel journal or something there might be an issue, but for fans of a writer? Not a lot of rabbit boiling going on in those parts.

  3. $1000-$1200

Yikes, and I complain about my $500 rent. I guess you gotta love small town USA.

  4. I was in Boston last year for a few days. Just for the heck of it, I checked out apartments. I couldn’t believe the rent just for studios! I need more space than that, and I don’t like roommates, but I love Boston, so I guess I’ll just have to visit from now on. I now take you back to more important things.

  5. Boston is still cheaper (with roomier apartments) than New York.

    Sigh.

Why do I love this city so much?

  6. I live in a one-bedroom apartment in a fairly nice area of the Twin Cities (Minnesota) and my rent is only $545. 😀

  7. If she dosen’t mind a commute, she might want to consider looking for a place in Salem. It’s a safe town and the rents are cheaper. I commuted from Salem to Boston for four years when went to Emerson and once you get into the groove of it, it’s not that bad. It’s about a half an hour on the train, straight into North Station and the from the Green line to the Red Line. (Of course now you have to factor the cost of a T-Pass into your monthly expenses.)(They used to be $83.00, I think they’ve gone up since I left.)

  8. And then I pay 480$ for a three room, two bathrooms, living room… and I complain….

    Oh man I like Spain.

  10. 1000-1200 for a two bedroom? Whoa. I live in Houston, TX – my rent is $760 for a 2 bedroom, 1 bath. All bills paid and free cable (HBO, ect.) Also includes washer and dryer! And my side of town is fairly nice! Man, I don’t know if I could survive living in Boston

  11. Yes, Boston prices are insane. This is not news.

I’ve got a 2 BR for $1100 on the border of Jamaica Plain and Roxbury. Tell her to look in the West Roxbury/Dorchester/Roxbury/Jamaica Plain/Roslindale area. They’ve got the $1100-$1200 area. JP’s safer and nicer, though a lot of the places will be about $1300. But really nice.

/Definitely/ checkout boston.craigslist.org, also Bay Windows (which is online) and boston.com (the Globe’s website).
