Haven’t been near a computer the past couple of days. I’ve been busy proofreading the copyedited manuscript for “Stone and Anvil,” the next New Frontier hardcover. It’ll be shipping in October/November of this year, and will be a direct follow-up to the long-awaited “Gods Above.” “Gods Above” wraps up the cliffhanger that “New Frontier” fans have been hung up on for some time now.
I turned the CE MS in to John Ordover today, so hopefully we’re on target for the pub date.

In the Previews of July appeared Gods Above, Stone and Anvil and No Limits. For what i know, No limits is a selection of short tales from various writers, tough in the Previews appeared as a compilation of all NF novels to day.
Anyone knows something about that?
As I’m lazy, and can’t click the links about 2 inches to the left of this text box, what is the New Frontier series about (the vague, spooiler free version, please)?
Otherwise, picked up Woad to Wuin yesterday, and didn’t put it down till 150 pages later…

in short: A new ship, a new crew and new adventures written in the typical Peter David style, i so enjoy reading. You get humour, drama, a dose of sex, combined with the other stuff you expect from star trek novels.

The one exception is Peter David’s story, which will detail Shelby and Calhoun’s honeymoon on Xenex.

All three new New Frontier books — the mass-market paperback Gods Above, the hardcover Stone and Anvil, and the trade paperback anthology No Limits — will be published in October.
No Limits will include a complete timeline of all the stories involving NF characters.

Which is why I gave up on the series.
Seemed to have very good potential, but I am NOT thrilled at this idea of cliffhanger endings in novels. Why not have two or three of the books into the one COMPLETE novel, instead of irritatingly splitting them into seperate, INCOMPLETE volumes? Please tell me this was the idea of some loony editor, and not PAD’s.
For us writer geeks, out here, Peter, would you mind telling us (or e-mailing me) what kind of writing schedule you work to? As prolific as you are, in various mediums, I’d love to know how you do it. And, if you’d further indulge, what was your writing schedule when you had a full time job and had to fit writing in the cracks?

O.k. So I just finished Double Helix #5. Loved it! But I have one question: Who does Robin Lefler’s mother look like that Picard and Riker would do a double-take? Unless I’m going to find out in a future New Frontier book I would really like to know. I don’t have enough time to read all the ST books so I just read New Frontier-related stuff.

While I’m not going to answer the question of who Morgan looks like (I’ll leave the spoilers to someoen else, thanks!) I must admit to always having been disappointed by this little revelation of PAD’s, as it negates my mental visual of Morgan as Naomi Judd.

And it’s so very nice to see that PAD hasn’t forgotten about Majel in the same way that the current TV producers of Star Trek have. I believe I’m right in saying that if it weren’t for Majel (or at least the invocation of her name), several of PAD’s most beloved Trek novels wouldn’t have made it past the Paramount filter.

It’s not so much that “Being Human” ended on a cliffhanger–it’s that all of the story threads felt so unresolved.
Previous NF books (“Dark Allies”, “Requiem”, and “Renaissance” are good examples) all left me with two feelings: satisfaction at reaching the end of a particular story, and a burning desire to find out what happens next.
In the end, “Being Human” was just a big tease. A fun, well-written tease.
Or, to be more blunt, it felt like half a book.
I enjoyed the NF books. Read 1-3 and was working on 4 on a plane trip. Someone stole the book during a layover. Had it on the seat next to me, was digging in a bag on the floor and someone lifted it. Never did find out how all that ended…
We still seem to be waiting for Gods above to come out in the UK or if it is i can’t find it. Any chance of anyone knowing when it’s out here ?
Gods Above hasn’t even come out in the States yet. *grin* It’s an October release, so it’ll start showing up in the UK in November, probably. (You guys on that side of the ocean tend to get things one month after we do.)

Re: time between NF novels. I think Peter has indicated that he originally didn’t intend for there to be as big a time gap between them, but other deadlines took priority which pushed back the NF books.
Speaking of other books, I haven’t yet seen any notices here from Peter about One Knight Only, the Knight Life sequel. For those who don’t like cliffhanger endings, it doesn’t end with one.
