Ain’t it Cool News ran a review of “Fallen Angel,” and it was an unqualified rave. So that was nice.
I have to say, I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t entirely sure readers would “let” me write something different from what I’m known for. That there would be resistence to it. But that doesn’t seem to be the case thus far.

Well, sure, I’ll chime in with a comment. I quite liked the story, although I thought the art fell a bit flat. I’m holding out hope for improvement there.
As to letting you write something different, man, that’s something I’m all for. I always, metaphorically, stand up and cheer when a favorite author tries something different, exercises a different set of authorial muscles. It’s great fun watching writers tightrope over the abyss.
So far, I’m enjoying the ride. Thanks.
I, too, am enjoying the book. Well, the first issue, anyway. A change of pace is always nice, and as I writer myself, I know how difficult it is to keep writing similar stories over and over. It’s good to branch out and try different things.
Just finished the new KNIGHT LIFE, by the way. I need to find my copy of the original version, to compare, because it had been a while since I’d read it, but the story updated very nicely. A great, fun read. I can’t wait for the sequel.
Take care.
I don’t read Don’t-I-Think-I’m-More-Cool-Than-I-Really-Am.com, but if a good review there helps you or the sales on the book in some way, I’m glad for you, Peter.
I just picked up One Knight Only yesterday. Just one thing: I just passed the part on page 60 that mentions that U.S. law strictly “forbids” the President and Vice President to appear publicly together, but this is not true. Shortly before Clinton’s reelection, he and Al Gore visited my home town of Union City, NJ (just before going to NYC) to see the new computer/Internet equipment donated to a local grammar school by a telecom company. They were both here together. While unusual, and generally something that’s a good idea to avoid, I don’t think there’s anything in the law that forbids it.
What exactly are you “known” for? I enjoy your work in novel, comic, and televised form…to me, you’re “known” for quality of work that is, at bare minimum, not a waste of money. =)
Congratulations! That’s good news!

In the real world, not to my knowledge, no. However, I tried to make it clear that the law was passed within the fictional world that Arthur inhabits. But since I didn’t want to pin the timeframe down to any particular year, it’s difficult to convey that it’s part of the world I’m writing about.
Then again, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if such a law is eventually passed.

Not that anyone cares, but I thought I’d bìŧçh anyway…
I was going through my stuff this weekend, and I realized that I may have lost my old, tattered copy of the original Knight Life, and it sucks!
Because I, too, wanted to buy the new version and then read both volumes back to back for comparison. Ðámņ it all! I’m really hoping it turns up.
In any case, glad to hear about the positive reviews of FA. And I’m greatly looking forward to at least reading the updated KL if not the original. The sequel looks like it’ll be great, too.
Personally, Peter, I’m glad to see you branching out and doing different stuff. Not that you haven’t all along in many ways, but it’s great to see it succeeding. I picked up “Sir Apropos” last year with some trepidation — my least favorite element of your work is the puns, and this sounded like a book based entirely on puns — and was pleasantly surprised at the dark and cynical tone throughout. It’s become my favorite of all your work; the final chapters almost had me in tears and really well conveyed the vast emotional emptiness of the situation’s aftermath.
I’m getting a bit of the same feel from this “Captain Marvel” run; I’m really quite surprised at how long you’ve been willing to let the situation spin out and go completely to hëll.
Anyway, liked “Fallen Angel” a lot and am looking forward to the future, especially new Apropros and New Frontier. Thanks.

I enjoyed Fallen Angel a great deal. One of the strongest first issues I’ve read in ages.
Gail
I’m just glad that Gail is making appearances over here… makes me want to go back and become a regular over at cbr.
Haven’t had a chance to get Fallen Angel as of yet. right now the only major comic I read is C.M. so maybe, I’ll just have to go pick that up.
Travis
I haven’t gotten to FA yet either. But I did read Cap #12 and thought it was spectacular. What a great ending! I thought parts 1-3 were kinda slow, but then pow! part 4 was great. Reis, I wasn’t too fond of compared to crisscross. What what can you do? The story was awesome.
One question: why hasn’t Rick called up the Avengers to take Marv down? He’s had enough time in this world to stop by a payphone on the run from Coven or whomever…Anyway, I hope Rick does call and I hope the Avengers do try to take Marv down only to have Marv kick all their a$$es!
Shawn
P.S. Grant is off New X-Men! Pitch, Peter, PITCH! *please*
What a shocker… PAD writes good comics. Who would have thunk? 😉
I really enjoyed the first issue and I hope that Fallen Angel does really well.
Boo – My local comic shop got a short order of Fallen Angel so I didn’t get the copy I’d ordered ;(
Hopefully they’ll be able to get some more. I’m still trying to get over the cancellation of YJ and would like to try some more PAD 🙂
Neal Adams does Captain Marvel cover! see here:
http://www.nealadams.com/capmarv.html
The cover and comments on the site say it tells a story rather than the pin-up covers we’ve been getting so far. What’s the story Peter?
Shawn
As for “letting” you write other stuff and following along for the ride, I’ve read a myriad of things you’ve written from Photon to comics work such as spiderman, hulk and Dreadstar (despite all you other volume of work in comics Dreadstar is still my favorite.).
I’ve read your work in different genres in what seems like almost all over the scale and I’ve yet to be disappointed and have never yet been sorry I’ve bought anything with your name on it. (or even those things where you have wrote under other names)
At the Neal Adams CM cover page linked by Shawn: What’s happening on the cover? Nothing, really unless you look at it very carefully. Clues? O-kay, clues. A. He’s holstering his gun B. It’s not really a gun C. What did he just do with it and to whom?
Luigi Novi: Okay, he just shot someone on Park Avenue. Donald Trump? Mike Bloomberg? The Hilton sisters?
This isn’t one of those highbrow, snobby “I know everything about comics and how they should be done” kind of reviews.
It’s simple: The first issue of Fallen Angel kicked ášš!
Well Peter, you already know I liked the book. But I’m not sure that I really understand when you say “”I wasn’t entirely sure readers would “let” me write something different from what I’m known for.”” I’d say this isn’t far removed from what you’re known for at all. While I think you’d know your writing style better than me, I think you delivered exactly what you promised, and had been talking about for weeks and months leading up to it’s release. Hëll, I think your fans were clamoring for this book, and I’m glad it went off as well as it did.

I’ll say it did! I loved the mystery surrounding this title, as well as the few curveballs Pad threw at us between the covers. Especially that one at the end! Now that I’d like to know more about! Oiyh. LOL
I dug it. Not much more else to say…
I finally got issue #1 of Fallen Angel yesterday and I loved it! The characters are interesting and I certainly wouldn`t have expected this ending. Also the artwork is very good. It reflects the mood of the story very well.
I just hope that Fallen Angel is meant to be in its own universe. This is the main reason why I started reading it. If people like Batman, Superman etc. start popping up, there is a good chance that I will stop reading it. I was never interested in the DC superhero universe.
Now I wonder when Amazon UK will finally send me One Knight Only.
Fallen Angel arrived in my box from Perpetual Comics last week. I read it this weekend and enjoyed it a lot. The last page there was an interesting twist and it will be fascinating to see how things play out.
The woman looking for her “son” plot, though seemed extremely familiar. I could have sworn I had seen something very similar in a comic before, though maybe with the genders reversed (for some reason Scorpio Rose comes to mind, but I probably am not remembering correctly).
It was quite interesting and I’ll keep on ordering and reading the book.
