So what am I working on? Well, I just turned in the final draft of the “THE HULK” novelization. Best fan-related comment about the movie was whoever said, “Don’t make me Ang Lee. You wouldn’t like me when I’m Ang Lee.” I cannot *believe* I didn’t think of that. I should turn in my rogue punster card.
I recently turned in the script for SUPERGIRL #79, in which (presuming the sequence is approved) Linda gets married. And I’m working on the script for CAPTAIN MARVEL #7, operating on the cheerful assumption that there will actually *be* a CAPTAIN MARVEL #7. Walt Simonson did the cover. When I found out it was Walt’s first Marvel work in a decade, I said, “Put Thor on the cover. Thor fighting Captain Marvel. How many opportunities for a Simonson Thor on a cover of my comic will I have?” Now all that remains is to write a story to stick on the end of the cover. Very early DC in my thinking, I know, but c’mon…you’d do the same.

Dear Peter,
Wow, Walt Simon returns, however briefly, to Marvel with Captain Marvel 7. This would actually make a really cool story, since in Thor’s own book, he is attempting to dominate the earth. If Cap is over the whole omnipotence thing by issue 6, he and Thor might have some interesting things to discuss about free will, the limits of power, and religion. You could also explore Captain Marvel’s feelings about religion. What kind of spiritual beliefs does a half-Kree/half-Eternal have? How does he react to a being that refers to himself as a god?
Food for though, not that you would need it.
By the by, a really guily part of me thinks that after the “U-decide” event is over, you should have the characters from Marville guest star in Captain Marvel. Perhaps AOL-el can become Captain Marvel’s sidekick, or protege. Or not.

If what we’re doing here is a wishlist of sorts, I’d kinda like a contrast between Thor’s old feelings and beliefs that although he and the other Asgardians, polytheistic (little-‘g’) gods, were beings to be worshipped but were just gods. They were powerful beings who had their own religion that extended in part to Odin, and even beyond.
Thor walked among men. He was content as a god and as a protector of MIdgard. He was also arrogant as heck until Odin put the smack on his godly activities and banished him to mortal form. But then, you know that better than I, Mr David.
The contrast, of course, is that Thor now believes he rules the earth and is a being to be imitated if not alright worshipped. All humility within him has been banished to a seperate mortal shell. You still know that better than I.
So here’s a new continuity question. When will this story take place? Does the entire last series, and this one up to issue seven, take place before the Thor “Reigning” saga starts? Would you be allowed that flexibility? Would you you do a flashback to the previous Captain Marvel time period in order to insure a Thor you want to write (if you want to write that Thor, that is)?
Or would you just go forward with your subplots and just guest-star the current Thor?
I’m not that stupid; above all the story will be shaped by whatever Thor that Mr. Simonson wants to draw.
So what would be your favorite Thor to write?
To see Mr Simonson working in marvel again is a very good new, I hope he will do more things. Speaking about Thor appearance Genis and he can speak about their status, which at least in the case of Thor has changed a lot, besides Captain Marvel is also an Avenger, so he has things to say about the happenings of the new crossover.
Finally, a happy new for you, with the release of Hulk in Spain there will be a collectionable with John Byrne’s numbers and allyour run with the green giant. Some number will be published for the first time( Jeff Purves’ numbers)
Two words…Frog Thor!!
Let me just reiterate, before things get misreported: Walt is doing the cover. JUST the cover. I wanted to emphasize that in case someone misunderstood.
As for the plot, actually, it’s pretty simple: Captain Marvel decides he’s a god and is going to live in Asgard from now on.

What … does … a god … need … with Asgard?
First all I have praise for Peter David. You are The funniest man in comics and one of the best storytellers if not the hardest working. You everything that is cool. I’ved read your comics everything from Your run on hulk. I love the storyline you did when Rick jones was getting married. The bacholar party was so funny. It was so funny how capt hired what he thought was magician. I’ve also read some of your novels my current fave is the icredible hulk novel you did a great job on it. Now that i’m done with my shameless kissing up.
I’m totally looking forward to hulk coming out and i was wondering if you going a cameo in it. Because in the new daredevil movie coming out. Kevin smith has cameo. I think you should totally have one that would be totally cool and yes i am going to Hulk when it comes out hopefully opening day. Maybe i’ll see that daredevil movie too.
Looking forward to both Supergirl and Captain Marvel. However, Walt did at least do a new cover for the collection of the first part of his THOR run. I guess he’s no longer exclusive with DC then, since he also recently did a fill-in on CrossGen’s THE PATH.
Okay- But where the heck is the next New Frontier book!!!!!
*goes off to get baseball bat*
Hey, I’ll be looking forward to you next issues of CP and SG too! And I certainly hope that the idea you’ve proposed for Supergirl gets the green light from DC; that would be so wonderful to try it out with her too!
Peter, I’m so intrigued by the new Supergirl storyline. It looks terrific so far. And Linda gets married. Whoa. Left field! Can’t wait to read this!
I haven’t read anything otehr than the Star Trek novels you’ve written, and for the most part, I am very impressed. IMZADI was superb and the sequel was also very well recieved. From what I’ve seen on this site, you obviously have plenty to keep you busy…. but to keep us waiting for the conclusion to the last NEW FRONTIER book for this long…. it’s cruel. Good book, and I had read the Acadamey books, I’d read long ago, so it was really cool to find out exactly what’s going on with McHenry. Just voicing my opinion… I’ve been waiting FOREVER and am very anxious to see it come out. Let it be soon.
Another comment, as far as NEW FRONTIER goes: I like the continuity and bringing stuff in from other series. But there is a point of overkill. I’ve seen other authors do it, and with a few of your stories, it’s come close. Don’t go over the line, please. Some old is interesting, but too much seems unimaginative. Also, the Vulcans. You have 2 Vulcan women, both of whom are on their own emotional rollercoaster, much more so than a Vulcan should be. Yeah, you’ve given reasons, but it’s not how it seems it should be. And I can say that I’m not all that impressed with T’Pol’s emotionalism in ENTERPRISE, so please don’t be using her as the model for the traditional Vulcan female.
Overall, what I’ve seen of your work I love. A few complaints here and there, and a warning. Please get the next NEW FRONTIER out soon and keep writing as well as you have.
Remember Walt Simonson sneaking in Clark Kent early in his run on Thor? The 4
