  1. Unlike the New Yorker and The New York Times, Mad Magazine has always been a visual publication first and a satirical publication second.

    I don’t recall any dialog written for “Spy Vs. Spy,” “Scenes We’d Like to See” or Sergio Aragones’ “Marginal Humour” (sight gags posted, of course, on the lower margins of virtually every page), so why is it a shock that Mad isn’t (or wasn’t) looking for funny writers, but funny cartoonists? Maybe a writer/artist comedy team would have been considered if they could put out product quickly enough to meet their deadlines, but why should they take that risk to avoid offending funny writers who can’t draw?

    I believe that comparing the Mad Situation to the Image Situation is like comparing apples to oranges and I don’t see how that could be done without making irrational, EMOTIONAL parallels…like the guys at Image have been doing for over a decade!
