I thought I’d let you guys know that Joe Quesada is going to be discussing his take on Disney’s acquisition of Marvel over in his regular column on Comic Book Resources today. Since he’s actually met with all the players while I’ve met with–y’know–none, his opinions on the topic should carry more weight. So check it out.

Wait…this is the internet…we can’t have things getting confused by listening to someone with an informed opinion.
Absolutely right. I can’t fathom why people keep pestering you with questions about something you clearly couldn’t have knowledge on.
By the way, why was Paul Levitz removed as president and publisher of DC?
Paul is moving over to DC Entertainment so they can maximize the use of DC characters in television and film. I would consider it a definate promotion.
No. It’s really not a promotion.

I read that Paul Levitz is going back to writing comics as a full-time job.
.
What to believe?
That’s way more accurate than that it was a promotion.

It’s interesting to see Warners suddenly want to take a firmer hand in DC properties. All I know is that since 2003, DC and Warners turned away half a dozen directors, producers, writers and studios who were interested in developing “Fallen Angel” either for TV or film, while doing absolutely nothing themselves with it. Now the rights have reverted, and hopefully, we have a ball game.

Well, this push has been in the works for some months now, as Warner saw what Marvel was doing in trying to get an Avengers film going. After failing to get a Justice League off the ground, WB is trying (and so far failing) to copy the Marvel pattern of individual movies leading to team movie.
.
To be honest though, I don’t really care what Joe Q has to say about this. He’s slagged on DC in the past for being owned by Warner Bros. But that didn’t stop him from being a complete hypocrite the day this deal was announced and using Twitter to give the complete PR spin that is apparently expected of him.
I really don’t have any opinion on Joe Quesada one way or another and have never met the man. But I’ve got a feeling he had very little, if anything, to really do with Disney picking up Marvel. That probably had to do with people MUCH higher on the corporate ladder.
Joking aside, I remember you saying what a great guy Paul was when someone slammed him back on the AOL board. I can’t help but think that removing someone who was so dedicated to comics and maintained a steady ship for so long is a bad decision.
And yeah, a Fallen Angel movie would rock. If we’re going for an older Liandra, Demi Moore? Sigourney Weaver?
I think the danger of going with an “older” character in a movie is that if the franchise goes on for 5 or 10 years, age can become quite a factor. My initial choice for Wonder Woman if/when that film gets made is Catherine Zeta Jones (she’s got the looks, she’s done action in the Zorro movies, and she has the regal bearing of a queen) and I was upset when they kept talking about a young actress. But if they’re still filming in 2020, would she still be the one to be starring in the films?
(And my revised pick for WW: Eliza Dushku.)
Mr. David, if it gets to production, who would you want to see playing Lee, and the rest of the characters? Who would you cast?
A fan suggested Gabrielle Anwar as the Angel, and I can totally see that.
.
As for the rest, I’m really not sure. To my mind, they’re the old time movie stars I based them on. So I’d cast Basil Rathbone as Juris, Peter Lorre as Slate, Sean Connery as Malichi, etc. It’s hard for me to reimagine them with modern actors.

Peter, what’s your opinion on Quesada’s opinions?
🙂
Peter, on a related note, how do I answer the question: “Does this dress make me look fat?”
Quesada offering an informed opinion? All Joe Q. has to offer is pure PR spin (as usual).
Oh c’mon, he’s not that bad. I think the opinion Editor in Chief of Marvel pertaining to this matter would be an informed one, even if it’s one that some may disagree with.
“his opinions on the topic should carry more weight”
PAD – Good to hear that you are continuing to lose weight. I need to pay more attention to your sage advice on that matter as mine has been edging up over the years. I didn’t think you’d sink to fat jokes about Quesada though.
On the subject of PAD getting in free to the Disney parks, there’s this from Joe Q:
“Well, amongst some of the clarifications Bob gave us on Thursday, he did tell us that after the deal is done, we will be getting silver passes to Disney Land and World and that’s just very cool.”
Yeah, but that’s in-office personnel. I’m not sure if that extends to exclusive creative personnel.

One to remember next time you’re renegotiating your contract… 😉
Thanks for the tip! It seems that, in the near future at least, nothing should change when it comes to the comics and that’s good news! What Joe Quesada has accomplished, in terms of quality, is for the most part an amazing job, so i’m glad to hear that he’ll stay where he is and will be allowed to keep doing what he does!!!
And your thoughts on this twist in the story?

“On August 31st, the Law Offices of Howard G. Smith announced that they are investigating potential claims against the board of directors of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. related to the proposed acquisition. This is customary in the closing conditions, including all necessary regulatory and stockholder approvals. In a press release, the firm made the following comments:
“The investigation concerns possible breaches of fiduciary duty and other violations of state law related to approval of the transaction by the Marvel board of directors.”
Also, Levi & Korsinsky have filed suit in the state of New York challenging the deal. In a press release, the firm made the following comments:
“The transaction values Marvel shares at approximately $50 per share, based on the $26.84 closing price of Walt Disney stock the day prior to the announcement. The complaint alleges that the consideration offered is inadequate because it is less than the intrinsic value of the Company.”

All I know is that I hope it goes through because I might have a shot at getting into the parks for free.
