I figured this might be worth mentioning in a separate blog entry. I was asked on the thread in which I turned out to be Pippin to try a quiz from the same folks to determine which Star Trek Captain I was. The results couldn’t have been more predictable:

Mackenzie Calhoun- You are the wild man of
Starfleet. You love outwitting oponents by
doing the one thing they wouldn’t expect from a
Starfleet ship… fighting dirty. Of course
to get away with your craftiness, you only
exist in books. Doesn’t matter, you’re much
cooler than Archer. Some people say you’re a
self righteous SOB. They might be right, but
you don’t give a dámņ.

Somehow it gave me up as Picard….
I got Kirk! I got Kirk!
My results changed with my response to the last question, which didn’t surprise me.
BTW, I should expect you to get Calhoun.
James T. Kirk.
Rick
Captain James T. Kirk- You are the paradigm of the
Starfleet Captain. You explore the universe.
You save lives. What’s a few small fractures
of protocol when you’ve saved the galaxy more
times than you can count. Hëll, you even
brought peace between the Federations and the
Klingons.

Wow. I got Mackenzie Calhoun too. You know..I prob shouldn’t admit this…but haven’t read the New Frontier books…yet…
I should prob get to that. I hear their great. Hmm. Should I start with the first book (can you still find the first book?) or something else? 🙂

” Also came up as Sam on that Lord of the Rings quiz.”
I got Picard. Not too surprising, really.
And yes, it would’ve been very weird had you NOT come up with Calhoun…

By the way, John Kovalic has a magnificent take on this a couple of cartoons back on the Dork Tower site:
http://www.gamespy.com/comics/dorktower/archive.asp?nextform=viewcomic&id=832
I’m waiting for the quiz which asks “What Stooge are you?” I’m guessing I’ll get Curly.
This reminds me of when the movie “Shampoo” appeared in theatres. My younger brother, then in college, passed along the belief that whoever you were, you were represented by someone in that movie and could “see yourself” on screen. I found this incredible, since IMHO all the characters in the film were self-deceiving fools, pathetic sex addicts, and other kinds of self-absorbed fools. (Whose blase “who cares” liberalism insured the election of Richard Nixon in the film.)
I don’t want to be one of the Starfleet captains. I want to be the guy the Starfleet captains works for. The pay is better and you don’t have your life in jeopardy all the time.
I got Calhoun, too.
I’m behind by a couple of books, but the latest hardcover thankfully came with a CD of all the previous books in PDF format.
Captain Benjamin Sisko- You struggle with the most
difficult of ethical decisions. You feel lost
in a life that you feel have no control over.
The fact that you’re right doesn’t ease your
pain any. Ironically, you are also considered
the spirtual guide to the people of Bajor.

Which is a good thing, as Sisko was 1. my favorite captain, and 2. captain of the only trek series that I whole-heartedly have enjoyed. 🙂
Picard! Whoo-hoo!
BTW…I will now start referring to you as “P’t’r of David.” =)
I got Calhoun as well, which kinda surprised me.
Chalk up another Sisko.
Hey, has anyone gotten Janeway yet, or have we all dodged the giveaway ‘Voyager’ questions? 🙂
That OTHER John Byrne
Nope, I got Captain Janeway:
Captain Kathryn Janeway- You are strong, determined
and stubborn. Have the worst lucky of any
Starfleet captain in history. Ship’s haven’t
gotten this lost since the S.S. Minnow. You
survive, somehow.
Which isn’t surprising. I ALWAYS get Captain Janeway in those quizzes. If it was only true in real life. 😉
I got Calhoun. Then I played with the quiz to see what it took to make the other captains come up.
Is it just Calhoun, Picard, Kirk, Janeway, and Sisko, or is Archer an option? If so, how do you get him to come up? I tried for about ten minutes, and I couldn’t do it.
Fun quiz.
DF2506 wrote about NF, “Should I start with the first book?”
Absolutely. And I mean now, buddy. They’re fantastic; you’ll thank me.
In the first 4 books, you’re introduced to the characters and you learn their backgrounds. The first 4 are also available in a hardcover. Then read 5, 6, Captain’s Table 5, Double Helix 5, Double Time (it’s a comic book; I got mine on e-bay),then 7, 8, 9….they read like a serial. So get to it.
Jan
P.S. Don’t read #12 until you’ve got #13 IN YOUR HAND. Right folks?
I got Kirk too!
Captain James T. Kirk- You are the paradigm of the

Not suprising if you ask me. It was either Kirk or Calhoun because I have similar points of view to those characters. Sisko would’ve been cool too, though.
Salutations,
Mitch
Yep. Sisko here too, which is cool because DS9 is my favorite overall Trek series.
Ahahahahaha! PAD doing a Quizilla quiz! (I don’t know why that strikes me as so funny…)
PAD, if you don’t mind my asking, what do you think of the evaluation of Calhoun as presented in the quiz? Think it’s a fair judgment of the character?
LOL.
By the by, when’s the next book coming out?
The next NF book is After the Fall, which will be released in hardcover in October of this year, alongside the paperback reprint of Stone and Anvil.
(Actually, October will, for the second year in a row, be a PAD ‘n’ KRAD month. In both 2003 and 2004, October will see the release of an NF hardcover, an NF mass-market paperback, and a Trek novel by self. Last year, for me, it was the Lost Era novel The Art of the Impossible; this year it’ll be the TNG novel A Time for War, a Time for Peace.)

Ugg! I’m Janeway! Gahhhhh! lmao. I’m not a fan of hers either.
Well, it got ‘the worst luck’ part right. 🙂
*I* got Calhoun. Me, Mr. By-the-Book, he lives for the company, got Calhoun. This quiz is seriously flawed.
Great quiz! chalk up another Mac.
Which is the best outcome I could have hoped for as he is my favorite captain, Keep up the good work.
Andii
Captain Jean-Luc Picard- You are the thinking
person’s captain. You contemplate everything
before putting it into action. While you are
indecisive at times, you do so to insure an
equatable solution no matter what the cost.

I got Calhoun, too… which kind of surprised me, but there ya go…
I also looked at the creator of that quiz’s other quiz… which Geffen-era JLA character are you… and I was not surprised a bit to discover that I was the Blue Beetle!
Jon
I got Jean Luc Picard.

Hmm. Vega$$$!
When I MADE the quiz, I decided not to put Archer in for two reasons. 1) I’ve seen only 2 1/2 episodes of Enterprise and 2) I found both Captains Calhoun and Harriman to be more interesting. If I WERE to add anyone it would Harriman and Sulu.
and yes, I got Mac.
Peter,
Do you think your responses to the
questions would change if you were
writing an OS or TNG novel?
In other words, could you become
Kirk or Picard?
–Ed
As an experiment, I went back and took the quiz again several times, answering all questions the same each time except for the last. Each time I got a different result, despite only changing one answer. Perhaps the key to getting the result you want is in the final question (either that, or all the captains are of a like mind when it comes to the answers I gave for the other questions).
Rick
whats funny about my first results was that I am not a VOY fan and never really watched that show at all. lol.
A good question to add would be “what kind of pet would you have”..as the beagle is Archer’s only interesting characteristic!
