Kath, Caroline and I are attending ConGlomeration, a science fiction convention in Louisville. (I’ve been here since yesterday. Today we visited the factory where they make Louisville Slugger bats. Outstanding.)
The convention chairman announced at opening ceremonies that this may well be the last ConGlomeration. Diminishing attendance and support is putting them into a position where they may not be able to survive.
The problem is this: The last time I attended a convention where they announced it was the last one, it was Crescent Con in New Orleans. Two weeks later, Katrina hit, obliterating the convention hotel, a lovely sushi restaurant, and the surrounding neighborhood.
And there have been tornado warnings on TV this evening.
So if you want to prevent disaster befalling Louisville, and you live anywhere within distance, come on out to the convention tomorrow or Sunday. Lives, not to mention Major League Baseball, may depend on it.

I live in Louisville, and I’ve never heard of this convention. Maybe that’s the problem
Well, you’ve heard of it now, so there’s no excuse. Get over to the Crown Plaza Airport hotel.

You really should have known better to bring your daughter the weather elemental to these last cons …
What (if any) other conventions are currently in Louisville?
Was this supposed to be a joke? If it it’s not very tasteful.
Oh my!

Wow. Just like Cason Nelson said…I live in Louisville, too. I’ve never heard of this convention either.
Side note – there were some very nice Carriage drivers in downtown Lville last time I was there, might be a nice diversion before you go…
Conglomeration was a fun con – they had me there as a media guest a few years ago… it’d be a shame to see it go…
First heard of this con late last year. Wanted to take the oldest daughter to it this year, but it fell on Easter weekend which is a big family weekend, so no can do. Maybe next year of they continue, and don’t hold it on Easter weekend.
I live out by Lexington, and really wanted to make it, just to see Peter if nothing else, but the combination of horrible weather and Easter conspired to keep me away.
Count me as yet another who lives here in Louisville and never heard of this. This is something I probably would have loved to attend. I’m sick just thinking about missing out. If you’re gonna have a con, ya gotta get the word out!
Just FYI, they tell me they had fliers and posters in all the local comic book shops.

This weekend was awesome for me. As part of Conglomeration. I got to interview Peter David (www.peterdavid.net). We talked for a good while about his comic book writing as well as his other writings and just the general inner workings of the business.
I just released the interview as an episode of the podcast I produce called Completely Comics over at http://www.completelycomics.com. Feel free to give it a listen and feel free to share it in any way!
Thanks!
Just in case anyone is interested, the ConGlomeration committee has posted a notice on their Facebook page asking for input.
