An Open Request to the Producers of “Chuck”

Guys:  You gotta cast Kate Jackson as Chuck’s mom.

Not only would she be consistent with your casting of TV greats who came to prominence in the 70s and 80s…not only is she the smartest Angel…but the inevitable episode in which Captain Awesome’s father–Bruce Boxleitner–finally meets his son’s mother-in-law, will be embraced by everyone who has fond memories of “The Scarecrow and Mrs. King” as the “Chuck” of the 1980s.

Let’s all get together on this one, okay?  This isn’t the thread for “I still don’t watch that show” or “Oh, you know who would be better–!”  Indulge me.  Chime in if you agree with me, and that’s it.  And if you do agree, spread the word.  Chuck and Kate, at 8 (7 Central).

Updated 5/29: Guys, this once, I said that you should only chime in if you agree with me about something. People keep ignoring that, which is frankly pìššìņg me off, because it’s not like I ask for a lot from you. One time–ONE TIME–I said, “Indulge me,” but no. Other names keep being brought up. So I’ve been deleting those posts and will continue to do so. Stop trying to dilute the energy. If you absolutely feel the need to voice your opinion on this, there’s plenty of other boards to do it on.

  1. Hmm. That’s hard to argue with. I was pretty sold on pulling for Linda Carter, but you make a strong case, PAD.

  2. Y’know, when the Angels were originally on tv I was about 7, so to me it was a “show for girls.” But over 33 years, via geek osmosis,* I’ve come to respect both the actress and the show. So yeah, Peter, very groovy idea.

*the means whereby “geeks” know the general history/big names in the genre without having seen originals. This is how I knew who “The Master” was when he appeared in the DT Dr. Who without having seen any previous Who incarnations.

      1. Knock yourself out. That goes for everyone: Feel free to cut and paste the blog entry wherever you want.

      1. noted and changed – had a brain cramp at a key moment, obviously.

        thanks.

      2. Beat me to it! Here, have a pic I whipped up in PS to go on the FB page I was going to make in support of this great idea.

  3. I dunno, I have to agree with a number of folk who think Sarah Lancaster looks a lot like Lynda Carter.

    1. Tom…did you see where I asked people to chime in only if they agreed with me? This once? Because that, to me, looked like me asking people to chime in only if they agreed with me.

    1. Once I started poking around, I discovered that yeah, some other people came up with Kate Jackson as well. But it always as part of a list of people who they thought would be good. I don’t want to offer other options: It’s Kate Jackson. If Ausiello wants to be of help, then let him say that he’s given it some thought and decided that, as with all right thinking people, Chuck and Kate at 8 is the only way to go (and yeah, I know, technically it would be Zack and Kate at 8, but let’s get the name of the series in there as much as possible.)

  4. I’m in. I used to love “Scarecrow and Mrs. King,” even though I was probably too young to really understand what was going on. Kate Jackson really is the only logical choice.

  5. Oh, do I so agree with you. That would be so much fun. Loved Scarecrow and Mrs. King too. Great suggestion.

  6. I have to agree here. And this is coming from someone who does not regularly watch the show. However, if Scarecrow and Mrs. King were to appear together in an episode or three, I would definitely watch.

  7. Totally agree (despite the slightly eerie comparison between Lynda Carter and Sarah Lancaster). Mrs. King for Mrs. Bartowksi!
    .
Besides, Wonder Woman needs to be Sarah’s ášš-kicking mom.

  8. Agreed. It’s an inspired casting suggestion.

And given Peter had an excellent idea on the casting of W which turned out to be accurate, I think fan support for this idea is a good thing.

  9. Only watched “Scarecrow” occasionally, but like the symmetry. Also, like Bruce Boxleitner.

Like the idea of Kate Jackson. Very believable although another ironice cast choice would be Bruce’s wife, Melissa Gilbert, but Kate Jackson better for the show.

Stunt casting alone doesn’t work. Kate yes.

  10. OMG! Peter, you have hit the nail on the head yet again! Kate Jackson would be way better than any of the actresses I was thinking about, and aside from that, from what I hear she could use the money. So yeah, I’m definitely on board with your idea!

  11. Oh yeah. Most definitely. “Scarecrow and Mrs King” is one of my long-time favorite shows, and I love Kate Jackson. I’ll be putting this out among my geek friends as well.

  12. Bruce Boxleitner and Morgan Fairchild on one side and Scott Bakula and Kate Jackson on the other. Who could argue with those choices? It’s a beautiful idea that would work perfectly on the show.

    1. Um, except for the fact that Bakula’s character just died in the season finale. But other than that, yeah.

      1. Personally, I think he’s dead for good. However, some people have pointed out that Chuck’s Dad died 20 feet from the machines that brought Shaw back to life. The Ring could have revived him, then some government agency could have squirreled him away when they mopped up the Ring. Or something like that.

  13. I think a better choice would be… what’s that… only if I agree…don’t chime in with other…..
    …..never mind.

    1. Noticed that, too, did you…? I thought I was alone…..

      ….but yes, never mind.

  14. I wasn’t expecting spoilers… I hope they don’t influence my enjoyment of the finale when it shows here ~next Sunday~.

I thought they had at one point shown a picture of Mama Bartowski, but I might have imagined that. I agree, anyway, that it is fun to have the TV stars of yesterdecade show up in parental roles.

  15. I agree 110 %….if that’s even possible. When Kate and Bruce finally meet they can even add a little line like “have we met before?” maybe even a cat-fight with her and Morgan Fairchild. Okay now I’m just reliving my childhood…but still!!

    1. “have we met before?”

I think I’d die laughing and I also think Kate Jackson would be brilliant.

  16. Peter!!!!!

Brilliant casting choice! Kate would be the perfect mama Bartowski!!!

Kate and Bruce together! A slice of 80’s TV pie!

Hope to see you in San Diego!

  17. (Professor Farnsworth voice) Good news, Peter! Your request has been completely ignored. The role has been given to Linda Hamilton.
