So the word is out on what’s coming up for SUPERGIRL. If you head over to Comicon.com, you’ll read all about the return of–maybe–Kara Zor-El in the 75th issue of SUPERGIRL.
Bottom line is, I believe that there are still potential readers for the series out there who aren’t even giving it a try because it’s not the Silver Age cousin of Superman (you remember…the one who could never sustain a series). And I figured, Y’know, let’s embark on a development that will pull in even those readers. And let’s play off a cover that is one of the most instantly recognizable cover images that DC has ever produced, so much so that a statue was produced and sold of the moment. Although in reviewing that sequence as I prepped the issue, I was struck by the fact that Kara’s ship was crumbled upon landing. Shouldn’t it have been “invulnerable?”
At any rate, the seeds for the storyline actually start being sown with issue #73, so be on the lookout for it. And if you’re not reading the book and want to start, for heaven’s sake tell your retailer.

I copied the link onto the form here so that anyone else who’s interested can go directly from here to see. What can I say, this does look interesting. Maybe it’ll even give me some ideas on what to write for my own website sometime. I’ll certainly have to see.
Actually, just an addendum:
If one’s retailer is out of stock of any back issues of SUPERGIRL, he or she can send me a private e-mail request regarding which issues are needed. I also can create special “catching up” package deals for any newbies to this great thought-provoking series.
Thanks again, PAD, for all the great stories.

I have a question: Is the entire run so far available in TPB form? I bought the first few issues, but then dropped it due to economic reasons. Now that I want to catch up on Peter’s entire run on the series, getting the trades would probably be more practical. Are all the issues in TPB form somewhere?
Alas, no. Only the first few issues, drawn by Gary Frank, are available in TPB. Too bad, IMHO. But don’t let that keep you from buying the individual issues, you won’t regret it.
I have been reading Supergirl for about 2 years now and I am very pleased with it’s progress. I haven’t read a bad issue yet. The possible return of the original SG is intruiging.
Keep up the good work!
Phhht.
I’m sold.
Thank you Peter David for keeping that $2.25 from cluttering up my wallet every month.
🙂
So, is the current issue (#72?) a reasonably decent point to start reading the series, or should I wait for #75?
Gee, now I’m starting to feel old, because I’ve been with the series since issue one!
Anyway, Peter: Any plans for Power Girl in a story line at some point? After all, she originally started out life as the Earth-2 Supergirl until after the Crisis on Infinite Earths, when she was retconned to be Arion’s long lost/time displaced granddaughter.
I just jumped on a couple months ago and have had no problem following along. sure there are things that don’t make perfect sense but, come on, it’s not like I started reading Spider-Man with Amazing Fantasy 15 either.
Mike asked: “So, is the current issue (#72?) a reasonably decent point to start reading the series, or should I wait for #75?”
Well, you also might want to pick up #71, as this is part one of the altercation in Mexico that’s occurring in #72.

I’m surprised to hear this because I thought that they were planning to do this with Power Girl in JSA since they just revealed that her powers aren’t actually magic based as she had been told. Maybe one of them will be the Kara from the Superman/Aliens mini-series sent back in time and the other will be the Kara from either the Time Trapper’s pocket universe or from the Phantom Zone Krypton that Krypto comes from.
I realize PAD is not authorized to give out no-prizes for the Dynamic Competition but..
who says the rocket got bashed in on Earth?
The damage might have happened as it left Argo City. The rocket would not have been aerodynamic, but that’s usually not an issue traveling through the vacuum of space. Not being aerodynamic might even have assisted in its crash-landing on Earth.
The rocket (and its contents) would not have been invulnerable until they were within range of Earth’s yellow sun, as I recall my arcane lore of the silver age.
“who says the rocket got bashed in on Earth?”
Nobody, although illustrations of the event have always supported this idea. However, there is another theory to the rocket’s damage, and this comes from the original Comet’s origin (Action #293). Super-Horse had been imprisoned on an asteroid for centuries by a magic aura, until Kara’s rocketship shattered the spell on its way to Earth. Super-Horse followed the rocketship home, so he could later extend gratitude to the girl inside for saving him.

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me pack in!
Sigh. I dropped the book about a year ago due to budgetary reasons and a malaise over the prolonged search for Earth Angel story. Yesterday I went out & got caught up. It’s looking good. Can’t wait for the next storyline.
Well, I’m one of the people who have been pining for Kara Zor-El (and who hasn’t been purchasing the current series due to a fondness for the ‘real’ Supergirl).
So I’ll be avidly picking up the series to watch her return!
Great!!! I like your site!!!
