I’ve just finished the first book in “The Hidden Earth” series for Tor. It’s entitled “Darkness of the Light.” My guess is that it’ll be out sometime in 2006.

More on details when I feel like it.

  4. You of course know this better than I, having written considerably more novels than I have, but there is such a sense of satisfaction when you get to the end of a book and turn it in.

    And just in time for a Thanksgiving dinner that can’t be beat. *grin*

    I dunno; is Caroline old enough now that it’s possible to go to sleep and not wake up ’til the next mornin’? 🙂

    She has pretty much been sleeping through the night since she was about 3 months old so that has not been a problem. Now during the first 3 months I thought she would never sleep through the night and nor would I be able to ever again but this changed and all for the better.

  10. Thanks, Kath. Truth be told, I was partly just using Caroline as a way to continue Keith’s “Alice’s Restaurant” riff, but I appreciate the info as well. 🙂

    (Katherine just hit the three-month mark last week: she’s not sleeping through the night consistently, but most nights she’ll at least go for a 4 or 5-hour stint, which we think is pretty good. Besides, those smiles make it all worthwhile.)

    Where’s the ‘What did you think on the new New Frontier novel thread? I loved it for the most part. Only thinf is the dust flap gave away a few too many jokes/surprises.

    Seizing upon something someone has said in another thread, are you actually considered to be a “best-selling author”, and just what standard lets you know you have achieved that status?

    Also meant to ask, when you create characters like Spyboy and Fallen Angel, are they considered work for hire, or do you retain all rights as their original creator? I really hope you’re getting a piece of the action from Fallen Angel with as much promotion as you’re giving that book.

  17. Given that several of PAD’s books have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller list, I think he’s earned the right to be called a best-selling author.

    PAD owns Fallen Angel, and has said he could take it to another publisher if DC stops publishing it. As far as I know, Dark Horse owns Spyboy entirely.

    There isn’t any standard. The New York Times is simply the best-known list, like Billboard is to music.

    Yeah, I think that’s why they call it the Best- seller list.

  22. Oooh! a funny remark! You do know that some lists are based on the number of books ordered, and not actually SOLD, don’t you? Just like a lot of Billboard’s charts are based on Sales and Airplay, and only from certain areas. So calling it a best seller could actually be misleading. Which is why I was asking if there was a standard somewhere that once they had past a certain number in actual retail sales, it was classified as a “best-seller“.

  23. Yes, After The Fall is out and I bought it and read it in two sittings. The important question…when does the sequel come out? Razzle-frazzle-grumble-mumble. Stop reading this and go buy the book to see what I mean.
